...for intellectual dexterity, and pure entertainment. I have long understood the task of producing a game with such comprehensive quality as both an art and a science. In any case, my video game passion has slowly but surely charmed me into learning much about the philosophy of video games, their design and development, and especially the history of video games. Despite my life-long passion with video games, I began a true self-propelled academic investigation into the world of video games only a few years ago. I remember quite vividly that this intellectual journey into the world of video games was prompted by a friend of mine who was intrigued by the fact that I was often engulfed in the world of video games. During those days I was younger and consequentially much more immature than now. Not only did I enjoy video games, I spent a great deal of the few funds which I had on purchasing new games, much of my free time playing games, and a lot of time also discussing video games in general. I was not officially addicted; I always knew when enough was enough and when I needed to spend time completing school work, saving, or spending money to make important purchases. However, it became evident to everyone around me, and me as well, that video games were a big portion of my life (and still are). My one friend, who had not noticed any more differently than anyone else my video game passion, but with whom I spent a great deal of time with, confronted me with a poorly conceived but...

...DO YOU GOOGLE OR NAH? Nicole Edison American InterContinental University Abstract This paper will intend to provide an in depth look at Google as a company and not just a search engine. This paper will deliver qualitative data from research prepared and analyzed. Introduction In the twenty first century the face or in this case the faces of fortune five hundred companies are becoming younger and younger better known as generation ‘X”. From Facebooks owner Mark Zuckerberg to the two fledgling faces of Google Larry Page and Sergey Brin, what use to look like a three piece suit and loafers now look like khakis, a polo style shirt and Sperry’s. The world is changing and so is the way we bank, date, shop and for the most part find answers to anything we need to know. From BackRub’s To Google Google has become a household name so much so that in two-thousand six, Oxford English Dictionary added the word “Google” as a verb and has become a chosen way of researching almost anything for some as results will show later on in this paper. In nineteen ninety-six two Stanford University college students formed a company called BackRub which was created to find the significance of certain webpages. This search engine was made available to the student body of Stanford University only; and within four months the search engine was receiving over ten thousand searches daily which was a clear indication that there was a great need for a service of this kind and...

...reasonable to believe that marketing on Zwinktopia will not only increase UnME brand awareness, but also would increase sales. Third, UnME will have its virtual retail store to announce any products when new jeans are release in the real world. Also, the platform allows users to design the jeans for their avatar, which they could then share with other avatars. I believe Zwinktopia is a good platform that would better convey the message that Foley wants sends to the target customers. In addition, Zwinktopia’s marketing plan is the most economical one among all social medias. Zwinktopia has cheaper one-time charge fee, and the cost of using Zwinktopia is $100,000 annually while $150,000 for Facebook quarterly, and $300,000 for YouTube plus CPM of $40. In sum, adopting Zwinktopia would directly reach out UnMe’s target teenage and deliver UnME’s concept. Also, using Zwinktopia has lowest financial risk compare to Facebook and YouTube. 2) The benefits of advertising with Zwinktopia are three-fold. First, launching the virtual UnME jeans retail store on Zwinktopia would inform the users about new products in real world and stimulate in real-world purchasing. Second Zwinktopia could design jeans by themselves through Zwinktopia...

...INTRODUCTION Video games have come a long way since today's adults sat down at a computer to play Pong or Donkey Kong. The newest-generation gaming consoles are as powerful as personal computers, and can accomplish many of the same things. And today's games are increasingly realistic and technologically advanced. Social networking has even made its way into the video game industry with online gaming. These virtual worlds can be complicated and perplexing to parents, which is why it's important for you to understand what your child is playing and when to get worried. Did You Know? * In 2009, over 11 million people played World of Warcraft, an online, subscription fee-based multiplayer game. * According to one study, nearly 1 in 10 young gamers displayed behavior patterns similar to addiction.1 * The Kaiser Family Foundation found that 8- to 18-year-olds are exposed to an average of 10 hours and 45 minutes of media each day. Whether your child is an avid gamer or rarely picks up a controller, it's important to understand the world of video games--especially in the age of online gaming--so you can make your child's experience with games both a positive and a beneficial one. ————— 1. Douglas Gentile, “Pathological Video Game Use among Youth 8 to 18: A National Study,” CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Background of the study The youth of today no longer seem to spend their leisure activities like in the olden days; outdoor games or playing with toys, instead...

...An Analysis of Coral’s Susceptibility to Bleaching based on the Symbiotic Relationship with their Zooxanthellae, Using DNA Sequencing Techniques http://www.wiki-reef.com/CoralSpecimen.aspx?cid=28 Elizabeth Velazquez Fall Quarter 2011 Luisa Marcelino, Timothy Swain Northwestern University, Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium Abstract Coral samples were obtained from Shedd Aquarium to investigate the symbiotic relationship between the corals and their zooxanthellae under environmental stress. The zooxanthellae DNA were extracted, amplified, and sequenced. The sequences were then analyzed using Sequencher 5.0 and BioEdit where they were aligned individually and then against other sequences found in previous literature research. The aligned sequences were run in Genbank using the BLAST function to identify the zooxanthellae at the subclade level. Further research into current literature was done with the best matched subclades to our sequences to further investigate the thermal resilience of the zooxanthellae. It was found that thylakoid membrane lipid compositions as well as lipid energy reserves are correlated to bleaching susceptibility. Clade D symbionts have higher lipid energy reserves, allotting for more thermal resilience in comparison to clade C as well as increased abundances in D symbiont types among reefs after bleaching events. Bleaching susceptibility was also found to have variation within clades. More research is needed to fully understand the coral-zooxanthellae...
