El Anatsui, artist of "Old Man's Cloth", aims to bring awareness to a social issue, Colonial Era inspired alcoholism in Western Africa, though does not the extend the piece as a call for legal change. Therefore, "Old Man's Cloth" has an ambiguous effect of the legal system in context to the region in which the issue is present. Anatsui's work is placed in a the San Fransisco Museum of Modern Art, far distanced from Western Africa. Moreover, the artwork does not readily ellecit an emotional reaction in which demands the action of the viewer.
