...Eco Terrorism Eco-terrorism is the term used to describe the violence in the interests of environmentalists. There have been cases when environmentalists have inflicted damage to the industrial factories, due to the fact that, they cause pollution and other environmental problems. According to Manning (2012), “Eco-terrorism can be defined as the act of violence or sabotage against person and property commits and support animal right activist.” There are some organizations that participate in it, such as, Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and Animal Liberation Front (ALF). These organizations managed to burn down a ski resort and blow up a laboratory among other things. On the other hand, some groups such as the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society are labeled as eco-terrorists although they do not commit such acts of violence against humans- they do not attempt to injure or kill people, but only provoke people through property. This has led to a debate that touches on whether or not to classify these actions as "terrorist" or not. The FBI has given the environmentalists a definition ‘the use or threatened use of violence of a criminal nature against innocent victims or property by an environmentally-oriented, sub national group for environmental-political reasons, or aimed at an audience beyond the target, often of a symbolic nature.’ John Lewis, a top FBI official says, ‘The number one domestic terrorism threat is the eco-terrorism, animal-rights movement.” Eco-Terrorists...

...English 122 Nature vs. Man In the world now there are views of what can or should be done with the environment, use what is available to save any animal/plant/bug for the future. Then there are the options that go between those two extremes. Looking at some of the views from our readings as well as other sources, we’ll see what is looked at as right and wrong ways to use and preserve nature. There are many views on how the Earth should be used or preserved, but the how to do it with the world’s increasing population makes the answer so important to those that will come after us. While not about nature, Aldous Huxley’s “Time and the Machine” talks about time and how man has made himself a slave to time. Knowing that we have a limited amount of time in our lives, many want to do as much to fill that time as can be done. Most in the western world view time as something that needs to be taken advantage of, that there’s always a deadline for creating or making something. In some eastern cultures, there isn’t the hurry seen like we have. They aren’t as concerned for man-made time as they have “not been made conscious of the existence of minutes.” (Huxley, 366) He goes on to say that people living in large cities can live “without being aware of the daily march of the sun across the sky; without ever seeing the moon and stars.” (Huxley, 366) This goes to show that people are too into the passing of time and don’t look at taking time to relax and exist with nature. ...

...Mercedes Davis English 091 March 11, 2011 An Open Reader Reading is the foundation of our life. Without reading we would be like lost souls in the world. Everywhere we go and anything we do we have to read; at work, school, driving, etc. People who do not know how to read are limited in life, they cant get a job, and the everyday life would be a struggle. Someone who knows how to read has no restrictions, the sky is the limit for them, they are our lawyers, doctors, and teachers. In Moody’s article “The Joy and Enthusiasm of Reading”, he expressed his love for the unpopular selections, and how he learned how to dissect his readings. Moody also states that nobody will ever be able to tell him how to read, and also believes there is no right or wrong way to read. In Moody’s article “The Joy and Enthusiasm of Ready”, he explains his high school and college reading experiences. He tells us how his, Mr. Buxton, taught him how to analyze Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Mr. Buxton did not give him his own interpretation and made sure Moody noticed how Shakespeare repeated somethings to help Moody come to a conclusion. In eleventh grade Moody’s teacher Mr. Flanders encouraged Moody to develop his own relationship with the Gospels, in his religious studies. Then Moody continued onto college where he read Umberto Eco’s Role of the Reader, where he was introduced to Eco’s “Open Text” philosophy. He also read some of the great European and Latin Americans articles. After his...

...ECO 324 Grand Canyon paper Mengbo Han 26/11/2012 My idea is, we should forbid or reduce airline near or passed above Grand Canyon to protect the environment there. The truth is, Grand Canyon has suffered from severe visibility problems, due in great part to pollution in the form of smog and haze. According to the final report of The Grand Canyon Visibility Transport Commission, the political body charged with looking into the issue, "Research shows that visual air quality in the West experienced a significant decline due to emissions from industrial activity from the 1940s to the 1970s. Visibility-impairing emissions began to decline in the 1970s following enactment of the federal Clear Air Act. Visual air quality at national parks and wilderness areas on the Colorado Plateau has not appeared to change since reliable monitoring data became available in the 1980s." This paragraph is not focused on the aircraft, but it does shows the air pollution in Grand Canyon is a serious problem. Industry and transportation contribute the largest percentage of smog forming emissions; trans-border pollution from Mexico was also cited as potentially significant contributors. For aircraft, it will certainly decrease the air condition. Aircraft create several types of air pollution. Pollution occur both at the airport during fueling, take off and landing and while the aircraft are in flight. For example, aircraft would make more greenhouse air, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide...

...increased importance of green marketing is very simple and relies on the basic definition of economics. Economics is a study of how people use limited resources to satisfy their unlimited wants and needs. Unfortunately we do have limited resources, thus we need to find alternative ways in order to satisfy our needs and save the environment. Ultimately, green marketing looks at how marketing activities utilizes this limited resources, while satisfying consumer wants, both individuals and industry, as well as achieving selling objectives. These environmental concerns have gotten businesses attention and to show support, companies started to modify their products for preservation of the environment. Businesses have been quick to accept concepts like environmental management systems, waste minimization, and have integrated environmental issues into organizational activities (Singh and Bansal, 2012). With buzzwords like sustainable energy, organic food, eco-friendly, and green products, businesses have increased their corporate commitments to reducing emissions through Carbon Disclosure Project's and Carbon Labeling exercises (Singh &...

... INTRODCTION Environmental management predates to 1972, where a conference regarding the Human Environment was held by the United Nations in Stockholm, Sweden. This conference won the attention of many countries and other international organizations who recognised the importance of environmental challenges faced, both nationally and internationally, on all levels (United Nations Environment Programme; International Institute for Sustainable Development, 2000). Since then environmental management has broadened its horizons to include important standards such as ISO 14001, ISO 15001 and ISO 500001 to name but a few (Anon., 2015). With such laws and standards in place, one can speculate the nature and purpose of environmental management in...

...Gurlovleen Mann Operations Management September 10, 2014 Eco Design Eco design is an approach to design of a product with special consideration for the environmental impacts of the product during its whole lifecycle. In a life cycle assessment the life cycle of a product is usually divided into procurement, manufacture, use and disposal. Eco Design products are flexible, reliable, durable, adaptable, modular, dematerialized and reusable. In addition to proving economical reasonability and social compatibility, these products represent an ecological necessity. After watching the video on eco design I have learned a lot about eco design. In video there was information that same as human beings all the products are conceived and born mean that they are made from scratch. They grow same as human beings and also they change. They move around and one day same as human beings they disappear forever. And like all human beings they leave their memories or footprints. They conserve energy, water, and raw and processed material. From one moment to the next they generate noise, vibration, volatile substances and even electromagnetic waves, which can be very harmful for the environment. For example the greenhouse gas effect, water pollution, air pollution and ground pollution.so however we design the products we can predict that impact and keep it to a minimum. But that hasn’t been the case every time. We always been using dangerous and hazardous products all the time....

The tables below separate which one of these two chemicals is causing the most damage to the environment. Tables have proven that there is an excessive use of the Dyetype material. Both chemicals have been calculated using the life-cycle assessment to show unit cost per kilogram price for each product. The findings from the report immediately draw attention to the Dyetype chemical having the most environmental impact out of the two chemicals. The company also discovers that there are additional toxins being released which require $2,700,000 to cover the total costs. The Balance Scorecard is considered for the effects of toxin releases. ...Sustainability Report 2009/2010 it states “We commit to continuously improving the environmental performance of our business and products by reducing emissions, conserving natural resources, and optimizing the use of sustainable energy and materials. This is underpinned by our investment in research into cutting-edge environmental innovation” (Land Rover, 2011). Land Rover is using the hot new green marketing concept to highlight their social responsibility and target the consumer who is eco conscience. According to the American Marketing Association, green marketing is the marketing of products that are presumed to be environmentally safe. While it may seem that to advertise one’s company as “green” it must include a broad range of activities, including product modification, changes to the production process, packaging changes, as well as modifying advertising. Background Founded in 1948, Land Rover was designed with the tough working, never ending job of farming in extreme places in mind. Since its early days and with countless changes in designs and technology, Land Rover is still the epitome of toughness and forward thinking design. Now Land Rover is also addressing environmental concerns with initiatives such as e-Terrain Technologies, Sustainable Manufacturing and CO2 Offsetting (Land Rover, 2011). Land Rover’s global sustainability strategy is focused on minimizing the environmental impact of its...

...Green marketing is the marketing of products that are presumed to be environmental safe. Green marketing consists of all activities designed to generate and facilitate any exchanges intended to satisfy human needs or wants, such that the satisfaction of these needs and wants occurs, with minimal detrimental impact on the natural environment. People believe that green marketing refers solely to the promotion or advertising of products with environmental characteristics. Terms like Phosphate Free, Recyclable, Refillable, Ozone Friendly, and Environmentally Friendly are some of the things consumers most often associate with green marketing. While these terms are green marketing claims, in general green marketing is a much broader concept, one that can be applied to consumer goods, industrial goods and even services. Thus Green marketing incorporates a broad range of activities, including product modification, changes to the production process, sustainable packaging as well as modifying advertising, change in packaging...

...the world, environmental education has been included as a part of the curriculum in schools and colleges. This project attempts to study whether and to what extent has the formal method of imparting environment education in schools has been effective by studying the status of environmental awareness of school children. Many new townships and cities have sprung up during the last fifty years. Urbanization has had its impact on the previously uninhabited areas and the natural resources therein. The neglect of the masses has resulted in environmental degradation. To reverse this trend there is a need to convince the people about the importance of nature conservation and adoption of eco-friendly practices. The first step towards this is the creation of environmental awareness among the people. However, this should begin at the school level when the children’s minds are impressionable. ‘CATCHING THEM YOUNG’, is the most effective way of creating environment awareness and thus preparing the children to become ‘eco-soldiers’ in their later lives. Though environmental education is currently imparted by giving information on related topics through subjects like science, geography, civics and community living; there is a need to ascertain the effectiveness of this formal method by studying the level of environmental awareness. Realizing the importance of this fact, an attempt is made through this study to determine the level of environmental awareness...
