Both public and private building has flourished since the end of World War II. Both developers and community planners have tended to draw upon the services of landscape architects more than ever.

With a specialty on environmental engineering jobs, the primary function of landscape architects is to plan and design outdoor spaces that make the best of the land and at the same time respect the special needs of the natural environment. To do this, they must have the combined talents of the scientist, architect, and the engineer. They concern themselves with the arrangement of and along with the objects included on it, such as land forms, buildings, shrubbery, plants, or trees, and open spaces. The landscape architects often consult with a number of different people, including engineers, architects, city officials, zoning experts, real estate agents, and brokers, landscape nursery workers, or others who may be involved in the project, so as to develop a complete understanding of the job. He or she will then develop drawings which will be presented to the client for approval. Some projects will take many months before these drawings are ready to be presented to the client for review.

In performing environmental manager jobs and upon receiving the approval of the client, the landscape architect develops the working drafts and outlines in detail the methods of construction concerning walks, terraces, or steps. He may also draw up lists of environmental-friendly materials to be used in completing the project. After developing the final plans and the materials list, the landscape architect invites construction companies to submit bids for the job. Depending upon the nature of the project and the contractual agreement, landscape architects may remain on the job and supervise the grading, construction, and planting or they may leave the project once work has begun. If they remain on the job, they will be the clients' representative until such time as the job is completed and clients have approved and accepted it, meeting their specifications. Known with his work relating with environmental science jobs, some landscape architects specialize in such projects as parks and playgrounds, waterfronts, campuses, hotels, and resorts, shopping centers, roads, or public housing with an emphasis on the preservation of the nature and environment.
Environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to improve the natural environment (air, water, and/or land resources), to provide healthy water, air, and land for human habitation (house or home) and for other organisms, and to remediate polluted sites. It involves waste water management and air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal, radiation protection, industrial hygiene, environmental sustainability, and public health issues as well as a knowledge of environmental engineering law. It also includes studies on the environmental impact of proposed construction projects.
Environmental engineers conduct hazardous-waste management studies to evaluate the significance of such hazards, advise on treatment and containment, and develop regulations to prevent mishaps. Environmental engineers also design municipal water supply and industrial wastewater treatment systems[1][2] as well as address local and worldwide environmental issues such as the effects of acid rain, global warming, ozone depletion, water pollution and air pollution from automobile exhausts and industrial sources.[3][4][5][6] At many universities, Environmental Engineering programs follow either the Department of Civil Engineering or The Department of Chemical Engineering at Engineering faculties. Environmental "civil" engineers focus on hydrology, water resources management, bioremediation, and water treatment plant design. Environmental "chemical" engineers, on the other hand, focus on environmental chemistry, advanced air and water treatment technologies and separation processes.
Additionally, engineers are more frequently obtaining specialized training in law (J.D.) and are utilizing their technical expertise in the practices of Environmental engineering law.[citation needed]. About four percent of environmental engineers go on to obtain Board Certification in their specialty area(s) of environmental engineering (Board Certified Environmental Engineer or BCEE) {http://www.aaee.net].

Briefly speaking, the main task of environmental engineers is to protect public health by protecting (from further degradation), preserving (the present condition of), and enhancing the environment. Environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to the environment. Some consider environmental engineering to include the development of sustainable processes. Environmental impact assessment and mitigation
In this division, engineers and scientists use a systemic identification and evaluation process to assess the potential impacts of a proposed project , plans, programs, policies, or legislative actions upon the physical-chemical, biological, cultural, and socioeconomic components on environmental conditions.[10] They apply scientific and engineering principles to evaluate if there are likely to be any adverse impacts to water quality, air quality, habitat quality, flora and fauna, agricultural capacity, traffic impacts, social impacts, ecological impacts, noise impacts, visual (landscape) impacts, etc. If impacts are expected, they then develop mitigation measures to limit or prevent such impacts. An example of a mitigation measure would be the creation of wetlands in a nearby location to mitigate the filling in of wetlands necessary for a road development if it is not possible to reroute the road.
The practice of environmental assessment was intitiated on January 1, 1970, the effective date of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) in the United States. Since that time, more than 100 developing and developed nations either have planned specific analogous laws or have adopted procedure used elsewhere. NEPA is applicable to all federal agencies in the United States.[10]
Environmental impact studies typically compare and evaluate many impacts covering a wide range of considerations including socioeconomic, human interest, geoenvironmental, and political factors. Therefore, evaluation of the importance of impacts in the decision-making process is not an easy task. Information on the environmental impacts of the investigated action and its alternatives can often best be presented in a comparative form. Such a comparison not only defines the issues, but also provides a clear basis for decision making. This study presents systematic methods used for comparing and evaluating impacts using the cesspool system in the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as a case study. A structured importance weighting approach relying on a ranked paired-comparison technique and an unranked paired-comparison technique has been used in this study. These decision-analysis techniques basically involve a series of comparisons between impacts and a systematic tabulation of the numerical results of these comparisons. An Environmental Evaluation Systems (EES) and an Unranked Decision Matrix (UDM) have been developed for comparison and evaluation of 17 impacts of the cesspool system. The results of the study provide the necessary guidelines for Jeddah Municipality and Jeddah Water and Wastewater Department to deal with the current problems and future planning of the sewage system in the city.

At present a great number of environment issues, have grown in size and complexity day by day, threatening the survival of mankind on earth. 1. Environment Issues Being of International Importance
It has been well recognised that environment issues like global warming and ozone depletion, acid rain, marine pollution and biodiversity are not merely national issues but are global issues and hence must be tackled with international efforts and cooperation.
2. Problems Cropped in The Wake of Development
Development, in its wake gave birth to Urbanization, Industrial Growth, Transportation Systems, Agriculture and Housing etc. However, it has become phased out in the developed world. The North, to cleanse their own environment has, fact fully, managed to move ‘dirty’ factories of South. When the West developed, it did so perhaps in ignorance of the environmental impact of its activities. Evidently such a path is neither practicable normdesirable, even if developing world follows that.
3. Explosively Increase in Pollution
World census reflects that one in every seven persons in this planted lives in India.
Evidently with 16 per cent of the world's population and only 2.4 per cent of its land area, there is a heavy pressure on the natural resources including land. Agricultural experts have recognized soils health problems like deficiency of micronutrients and organic matter, soil salinity and damage of soil structure.

...Theory Chemical oxygen demand (COD) is the measure of wastewater and water quality. This test is focused on the fact that a strong oxidizing agent, under acidic conditions can fully oxidize almost any organic compound to carbon dioxide. COD is equal to the equivalent amount of oxygen required to chemically oxidize substrate materials in water. The COD is often measured using a strong oxidant (e.g. potassium dichromate, potassium iodate, potassium permanganate) under acidic conditions. A known excess amount of the oxidant is added to the sample. Once oxidation is complete, the concentration of organics in the sample is calculated by measuring the amount of oxidant remaining in the solution. COD is expressed in mg/L, which indicates the mass of oxygen consumed per liter of solution. Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) is a measure of the oxygen used by microorganisms to decompose organic matter under aerobic conditions. Microorganisms such as bacteria are responsible for decomposing organic waste. When organic matter such as dead plants, leaves, grass clippings, manure, sewage, or even food waste is present in a water supply, the bacteria will begin the process of breaking down this waste. When this happens, much of the available dissolved oxygen is consumed by aerobic bacteria, robbing other aquatic organisms of the oxygen they need to live. ...I do not support the EPA allowing DC Water to use Green Infrastructure (GI) to help meet its responsibilities for water quality improvements. Although implementing GI has tremendous environmental, social and economic benefits, DC Water’s proposal to use GI doesn’t adequately render GI as a viable option for the following reasons. The first reason the implementation of GI is unacceptable is because DC Water has failed to show that GI works. The Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) consent decree was signed in 2005. In 2014, DC Water proposed to amend LTCP to include green infrastructure. In this nine year period, DC water failed to demonstrate and provide site specific performance information on the Potomac and Rock Creek illustrating that GI can achieve equal or greater reductions of combined sewer overflows (“CSOs”) compared to building tunnels. Therefore utilizing $30 million dollars of the rate‐payers money to reduce the size of the Potomac’s tunnel and replace it with GI is a poor choice since DC Water has not proved its proposed GI would fulfil the same requirement as a large tunnel would. DC Water’s General Manager, George Hawkins’ power point presentation indicates DC Water has invested 10 million in GI projects such as tree plantings, rain gardens, green roofs, bioretention, etc., but the presentation lacks providing any significant data or measuring tool on how successful the projects have been while implementing GI. This will require integrating existing SCADA systems with numerical distribution system models to enable better model calibration and demand estimation, simulation of past events for analysis, and simulation of emergency situations for response training.
