...Eric & Kipsy: complexities of management and organisational behaviour (a) Analyse the issue of management and organisational behaviour which are raised in this case study. From our discussion, we found that a lot of issues in this case. We will discuss and explain what the error and problem encountered. There are many issues of management and organisational behaviour such as: i. High turnover and absenteeism of staff. When absenteeism was particularly high on any given day, part-time employees were called to fill in. Of cause they all not familiar with the job, system, procedure, equipment and so on. When company hire new worker to work here, of cause company need to train and give full support to ensure new worker perform well. It is involve cost and waste time. ii. Low level of motivation Keeping employees motivated is an important element of not only getting the most out of your employees, but also in retaining your best employees. The best employees are always in high demand, and will change companies if they are not kept motivated at work. ...1. BACKGROUND (i) ERIC Eric is a new product information manager with a company wholesaling electrical components. Upon completion of management training, he was assigned to manage anew office comprising over 35 employees. Day to day operations • The operators receive calls from the salesmen in the field using operating consoles. A green light indicates an incoming call. • Calls are assigned sequentially to waiting operators • The stock number is determined and the relevant information such as stock level, delivery times and price is provided and relayed to the salesmen • At the end of the call the green light would extinguish itself and the operator will wait for another call. A visit from the Vice President indicating falling sales, high error rate and number of delays currently being experienced by the salesmen caused Eric to devise a program to deal with these issues. Eric’s program however was met with opposition from both employees and supervisors. Although the plan appeared to have worked for a few days, it failed to motivate employees and had a spiral effect which impacted on his relationship with supervisors and the general staff.
