The class I observed was a 1st-grade class at PS 119, located on Avenue K, Flatbush Brooklyn. My lesson was based on introducing and clarifying the strategy of, how to Identifying Problems and Solutions in a story. Throughout my lesson, I provided students with the vocabulary needed to understand the terms used. For the think-aloud, I demonstrated a story about “Brads Cat Mittens who was stuck in the tree, for students to a visual of how to identify problems and solutions in a story. Following my demonstration, during the session of guided practice I read one of the Franklin series books, “Franklin Rides a Bike by Paulette Bourgeois.” The story is about Franklin having a problem because he couldn’t ride his bike without his training wheel and all his friends could. He was feeling sad and frustrated, due to his constant trying to ride without wheels and failing which was his problem. His mom helped him and motivated him not to give up until he was good at riding. She gave him her full support by comforting him and help motivating him to find a way of fixing his problem.
