...Building Better Houses in Minecraft Building, the task is easy but making your builds look “nicer” is on a different skill level. Building in minecraft is important because it shows people you can do things other than kill animals and fight monsters. Most people play minecraft to kill and survive as long as they can, you can’t do this without a house/base to take safety in. You want to have a good base, not a cube that nobody will hesitate to attack. Are you bad at building? Well, I have good news for you, these are some simple tips to improve your builds. First of all, plan ahead, this can help you get the idea of the house you want to build and for future renovations. A floor plan is a great thing to begin with, you don’t get confused while building and you always have the picture of what the house will look like. Don’t forget to save your game after you set the floor plan, just in case your game freezes and you can’t remember...

...influences towards violent crime (Rogers, Wczasek, and Davies). For example the game Minecraft, which is a G-rated game suitable for all ages, a game that no one might think is a bad influence towards their child behavior, but in reality even games that are meant for children could lead to violence. In the game the player could do anything that they want craft, build and even kill virtual animals. Young children could find it funny killing animals or pushing them off a cliff towards their death, and they would also think that it is okay to harm animals in the real world because they do it in Minecraft. Parents who do not have the time to check or do not realize what their child is doing when using the computer should be more careful because...

...Violence in Real Life In the movie Wreck-It Ralph, one of my favorite quotes is “When did video games become so violent and scary”. I’d say that video games have gotten way more violent since Ralph Baer invented the first video game in May 1967. In more recent years we have multiple violent video games with the recent releases from series such as Halo, Call of Duty and a plethora of other games that we have grown to know and love. However, worrisome teachers and parent have often asked the question ‘Is this game making children more violent?’ or the ever popular ‘Is this game helping society?”. In this essay I will discuss the points about why I think video games aren’t violent, and how some could even help society....

...The Benefits of Playing Video Games Isabela Granic, Adam Lobel, and Rutger C. M. E. Engels Radboud University Nijmegen Video games are a ubiquitous part of almost all children’s and adolescents’ lives, with 97% playing for at least one hour per day in the United States. The vast majority of research by psychologists on the effects of “gaming” has been on its negative impact: the potential harm related to violence, addiction, and depression. We recognize the value of that research; however, we argue that a more balanced perspective is needed, one that considers not only the possible negative effects but also the benefits of playing these games. Considering these potential benefits is important, in part, because the nature of these games has changed dramatically in the last decade, becoming increasingly complex, diverse, realistic, and social in nature. A small but significant body of research has begun to emerge, mostly in the last five years, documenting these benefits. In this article, we summarize the research on the positive effects of playing video games, focusing on four main domains: cognitive, motivational, emotional, and social. By integrating insights from developmental, positive, and social psychology, as well as media psychology, we propose some candidate mechanisms by which playing video games may foster real-world psychosocial benefits. Our aim is to provide strong enough evidence and a theoretical rationale to inspire new programs of research on the largely unexplored...
