Saturday OBSERVE THE ENCLOSURE OF ANIMALS Second day we observed the enclosures of mammals. In these zoo there are two kinds of moats. One is dry moat and another one s wet moat.

i)DRY MOAT – This kind of moat is hollow type because the animals cannot escape easily. They are afraid to jump or cross the moat. So it will be safe and another aim is for to prevent the public visitors from animals. The hollow depth is depends upon the animals.

ii)WET MOAT – This kind of moat is filled with waters. Because some animals are afraid for waters. This type of moat is mostly suitable for primates. It looks like an island.

There are three kinds of enclosures:
i)Public, ii)Zoo handling and Veterinary, iii)Animals kept in cells or cage. There are two types of mode for public to view the animals. Safari mode – in this type animals are roaming outside and the public will see the animals by some kind of vehicles. (carryall vehicle and BOV(battery operated vehicles) ). But in zoo the animals are kept inside the cages and the peoples are roaming to view. The main aim of the zoo is to conserve the wild animals for the endangered and extinction species. And another aim is to zoo education for research, studies etc…

Sunday LION

MAINTENANCE : First the zookeepers clean the enclosures everyday by spraying water inside. They clean the animals through water using a long hose pipe from outside the cage of the lion. Then only the zookeepers release the animals from the cage and clean the cages with sanitizer. Because the wastage of food materials and faecal matters will produce rotten smell. So they use sanitizer to avoid the bad odour inside the cage. They provide food for them once in a day between 4.30 to 5.00 pm.

Tuesday INDIAN GAUR

MAINTENANCE : The zookeepers maintain the Indian gaur by every morning they wash and clean the animals in the cage itself and before releasing the gaur from the cage ,the zookeepers thoroughly ensure that there are no more any waste papers or mica or any plastic bottles thrown by the public visitors. Because if the gaur is supposed to eaten any plastic materials etc… These wastages will harm the gaur digestive system and it will leads to diseases like dysentry , diahorriae etc… During mating season the male gaur fight with other male, that time they may also cause some injuries to other gaur.. Due to that the zookeepers have some special medicines. They give treatment to the injured gaur by spraying the medicine on the wounded part of the body of the gaur or through injection untill the wounded parts get recovered. So it will be cured as soon as earlier. The female gaur is slightly brownish in colour and the male gaur is black in colour. This Indian gaur will become heat period at anytime and they will give birth to only one young ones. In zoo there are eight Indian gaurs .

Thursday SLOTH BEAR

In zoo ,the zookeepers cannot go inside to clean the bear. So that they use long hose pipe to clean the bear outside of the cage. After bathing the bear will look cleaning fresh. After the bear will be released to the enclosures. And then they will clean the cage, the zookeepers will provide food for bear twice a day.

Friday NOCTURNAL ANIMALS Nocturnal animals are mostly barrowing animals. It is only active during at night time. That is the reason why they are called as nocturnal animals. But in zoo their mode of life is changed, when compared with its normal life style. Because the zookeepers use dim lights at night time. So the public visitors are enjoy to view these nocturnal animals.

1 .SMALL INDIAN CIVET At home everywhere: Hunting by night climbing with ease, seeking food on the ground, that is a civet. Villages or crowded cities, rocks or grasslands forest or drains, dry or moist climate. Make little difference to this highly adaptable small Indian civet. Though it has a fondness for the berries of the ber tree, it preys upon rats, squirrels, small birds insects and grabs anything and everything which it can catch an kill.
2 . JUNGLE CAT Small but strong: This is the familiar wild cat of Indian. The jungle cat very common in Kashmir has a wide geographical distribution. This amazingly courageous animal moves about like a panther. It is exceedingly strong for a size. In the wild not only does it kill small mammals and birds but sometimes brings down larger game. porcupine quills have been found embedded in the cat’s paws.
3. COMMON PALM CIVET Popularly known as toddy cat or tree civet the palm civet is different from true civets in several ways. True civets are at home on land and rarely climb trees. The common palm civet is arboreal. It climbs tree with case and lives there. It has broad, hairless soles. Unlike the well cushioned hairy soles of true civets. This civets is very fond of the palm sap. It is known to drink the sweet sap of palms the collect overnight in the pots tied by human being. Hence the common name.
4 . BINTURONG This tree-tree dwelling, playful animal curls the tip of its tail round the branch as an anchorage while descending. The muscular base of the tail helps it climb expertly. A baby binturong can support itself by its tail alone. This nocturnal animals is of dense forest in cooler regions. At the zoo, it is provided with ice slabs in its long, shoggy bear , like coat the binturong’s more familier name is bear cat.
5. BARN OR SCREECH OWL Distribution in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, srilank, & Myanmar . a typical owl, golden buff, and grey above, finely stippled with black and white; silky white below tinged with buff and normally spotted dark brown with larger round head. Lives in old building, ancient forts large trees. Purely nocturnal. Feeds on rats and mice. Breeds throughout the year. Builds a nest in a hollow trees with straw, twigs and rags, lays abt 4 to 7.

Saturday & sunday ZEBRA

MAINTENANCE: The zebra ant giraffe having same method of maintenance in zoo. This animals are not treated like other animals in the zoo. The mode of life is similar in both forest and zoos. so they don’t give bath to these kind of animals. They provide proper food for this animals once in a day up to 10.30 am and they keep clean water, fully filled in tubs. So that the animals drink water, whenever they need. During summer season the zookeepers give special food items like fruits. The zookeepers mainly clean the enclosures regularly to prevent animals from eating half degraded food materials. They easily identify the stranger and these animals attack the strangers continuously until they exit from their enclosures. They show the anger by kicking, running around the enclosures very fastly. These are the problems faced by the zookeepers from these animals and their mating season are nearly November to December. They give young ones only one at the time of birth.

MONDAY TIGER

MAINTENANCE: The maintenance of tiger also same like as a lion. The tiger is the most powerful animals than a lion. The zookeepers spray water threw a long hose pipe outside the cage to clean and wash the animals and as well as the cage also. They mate at anytime and they become estrus. They mate about 60 times per day. Their mating season about is seven days. They eat about 5 or 6 kg beef per day. This is for a single animal.
