...Group project – Essay Supporting the article: According to the popular science theory of cholesterol, foods that are rich in animal fat and cholesterol can cause the artery walls to thicken, thus impairing blood flow. This condition is called atherosclerosis. But the question is, is it the high cholesterol that causes the artery walls to thicken, thus creating the potential for a heart attack? LDL is a lipoprotein that enables transport of lipids through the bloodstream. LDL has been regarded as a predictor of heart disease. LDL is regarded as the kind of cholesterol that is deposited into the artery and causing the formation of a thick substance that blocks the bloodstream. It is a popular theory, that the cholesterol we get from eating food, is affecting the cholesterol in the blood, so that the arteries are blocked. However, studies have shown that your LDL level is not necessarily the cause of heart disease, but merely a symptom. The article points to Christopher Gardner, a researcher at the Stanford University School of Medicine, who says that high LDL, is an "overblown risk factor" for heart disease. The article goes on to say that science has been unable to find a link between consuming saturated fat and heart disease. The article suggests that an increasing number of studies have started to raise doubts about the presumption that elevated levels of cholesterol leads to heart disease. This is accurate, even if these studies aren’t pointed out in the article, they...

...EFFECT OF HEALTH PROMOTION IN TACKLING THE HEALTH OF BRITAIN AND THE RELATED ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS. Health promotion is a socially embodied "value field"; its mission is to promote a Sanitary culture, one that locates health at the top of a hierarchy of cultural values and social goals. It is concerned with the whole person, the relationships between individuals and their environments and the wider forces that shape health. However, this essay is going to focus health promotion on coronary heart disease .In this context, the role of health promotion is in the primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases like coronary heart disease. Heart disease comes in many different forms. The most common type of heart disease in Britain and in other Western countries is coronary heart disease (CHD). Coronary heart disease (CHD) also known as ischaemic heart disease, is the UK's biggest killer, causing around 82,000 deaths each year. About one in five men and one in eight women die from the disease. There are an estimated number of 2.7million people living with the condition and 2million people affected by angina, the most common symptom of coronary heart disease. In 1989, 92,480 men and 76,421 women died from coronary heart disease, an average of 460 people (the coronary prevention group, 1991). Coronary heart disease (CHD) is usually caused by a build-up of fatty deposits on the walls of the arteries around the heart (coronary arteries). The fatty deposits, called atheroma, are...

The government of the United Kingdom had recognized stroke as a health care priority. Several government agencies developed clinical guidelines which are being implemented today in local health care settings (Williams et al, 2010a). We're so exquisitely privileged to be living in this time, to be born right on the precipice of the greatest paradigm shift in human history, the only thing that approaches the importance of that reality is finding like minds that realize the same, and being able to make some connection with them. ...PRAISE FOR THE EXTRAORDINARY LEADER “The Zenger Folkman leadership model is distinguished from others in that it is backed up by research and data. That data validates the effectiveness of identifying an individual’s strengths and developing them, rather than focusing on weaknesses. The Zenger Folkman philosophy has its eye on the right goal – real, measurable results.” —Bill Blase Senior Executive Vice President Human Resources AT&T Corp. “I fell in love with The Extraordinary Leader on page 1. From the moment I started reading I really got jazzed, and my enthusiasm only increased the more I read. You see, I’m just mad about books that attack cherished but unsupportable assumptions about anything, especially leadership. That’s exactly what Jack Zenger and Joe Folkman do, and they do it persuasively, precisely, and professionally. The Extraordinary Leader is no hackneyed rehashing of tired nostrums. Through their exceptional research, the authors demonstrate and prove that leadership does make a difference and that you can learn to lead. There are some profound insights in this book, and whether you’ve studied leadership for over 20 years, as I have, or you are brand new to the subject, Zenger and Folkman give you much more than your money’s worth. And while their research gives the book distinctive credibility, their examples and practical applications give it life. This is a book that scholars and practitioners will be referring to for years to come. If your goal is to...
