Discriminatory behaviors take many forms, but they all involve some form of exclusion or rejection. People witness individual acts of discrimination, such as a student who won’t let people of certain race seat with them at lunch; often these individual acts reflect large system of exclusion. Consider schools that won’t let girls take the same classes as boys or a job that doesn’t hire people of certain ethnic back ground. There are three types of discrimination. ...Multiculturalism relates to communities containing multiple cultures. Britain has always been a multicultural society, for example in around 750BC when the Celts invaded and set up to live here, bringing over iron and new farming techniques. However ‘with multiculturalism comes prejudice’ once said by Through out my coursework I will be investigating the question ‘Education or Legislation?’ Which will be the most effective strategy in overcoming prejudice and multiculturalism in society? This is the question I will be asking the public to determine whether enforcing more laws or educating children from a younger age about immigration, human rights and equality. My prediction is that the most popular opinion will be to educate as it could have a more effective impact. Prejudice is a perceived opinion on someone/ something based on reason or experience. In order to gather these options I have devised a questionnaire to hand out and analyse the results in order to come to a conclusion. Some of the questions I asked are; ‘Do you think where you’re brought up has an effect on your attitudes to a multicultural society?’ ‘Do you think there are enough laws in place to reduce decimation?’ ‘Do you think there is enough being done in schools to decrease discrimination amongst a younger generation?’ ‘Who do you think is to blame for increase in prejudice’ ‘Would you be happy with your child being taught about prejudice and living in a multicultural society?’ To complete this...

For instance, a male care worker may not be allowed to work with a female Muslim due to her preferences and religion; however the Muslim woman will still receive the same amount of care. Equity – Equity is the definition for being fair, having justice and being impartial. It means that everyone is permitted to equal access to any service which they may require and should still get the same amount of high-quality care regardless of where they live of how they live their lives. For example, in a hospital the patients shouldn’t be treated exactly the same, however you should still be fair and offer them opportunities and choices. For instance if there was a young girl in one bed and an old man in another bed, the young girl will be treated differently than the old man due to their needs and preferences, however they will both still be treated fairly just not the same and will still receive the same amount of...

...Section I. Introduction Ethical dilemmas in public administration are commonplace. Whenever there are people, money, and power, there is an opportunity for corruption amongst public administrators. One of my favorite movie scenes comes from Tom Cruise’s The Last Samurai, circa preindustrial Japan. A modern western corporation is vying for the regimes favor through a seedy relationship with the emperor’s chief of staff, Omura. The corporation presents the regime with an opportunity to build cross-country railroad systems and supply advanced technologies to the Japanese monarchic. The 1800’s traditional, agricultural centered populace is wary and suspicious of the western industrial corporation emissaries causing public conflict and discord. There is a war between the traditional samurai and the monarchs’ army because of the imposing changes. The technologically advanced army, using machine guns and cannons, slaughters the sword carrying samurai in battle. In the final scene only one samurai remains. Wounded and limping, he comes before Emperor Meiji to expose the truth behind the “sweat deal” with the western corporation. He informs the emperor that his trusted aide was secretly paid money to lie and sway approval for the corporation’s goals. Emperor Mejia angrily glares at Omura. The following passage occurs: Logan (2003) writes in the script as follows: Emperor Meiji: For what wealth have you caused great conflict and strife to my people. Omura, you have done quite enough...
