Executive Summary: The Sacramento King

Ten years of futility has put tremendous pressure on the Sacramento Kings organization to turn things around. This will be the 10th year in a row the Kings have missed the playoffs. If current form holds true, it will be the 7th year out of the last 8 where the team has lost at least 50 games. During this 10-year span, there have been front office changes, coaching changes and wholesale player changes. Nothing seems to be working.

Next year, the Kings will be moving to the state-of-the-art Golden 1 Center. As things stand now, they will most likely be the same old team in a brand new arena, and that doesn't make sense. This move might be exactly what this organization needs if they use it as an opportunity to initiate a complete overhaul of …show more content…
He's a likable man and very much a Sacramento King dating back to his days as a player. If nothing else, he deserves credit for keeping a group of volatile players in line as the pressure to win keeps mounting.

As far as player personnel in concerned, they have a decent core of players. DeMarcus Cousins (27.1 PPG, 11.6 RPG) is a legitimate All-Star F/C. When focused on basketball and not worrying about outside issues, Rajon Rondo (11.7 APG) in a top-flight point guard. Even veteran shooting guard Rudy Gay is capable of putting up good numbers on a regular basis. It seems like the team is just one good player from being relevant.

That leaves Head Coach George Karl. Far too often coaches are made the scapegoat in these kinds of situations. Maybe it's because they are the easiest employees to fire without disrupting the entire organization. After a long career as both a player and head coach, Karl again finds himself facing …show more content…
It wasn't that long ago (2005) that he beat prostrate cancer six months after leading the Nuggets to 32-8 record over the second half of the 2004-05 season. After a solid career with the Nuggets, he was unceremoniously fired at the end of the 2012-13 season with one-year remaining on his contract.

After sitting out almost two years, he was hired to try to resurrect a struggling Kings franchise. He took over during the middle of the 2014-15 season, making this his first full year as the team's head coach. The struggles have continued, but more importantly, Karl has had significant run-ins with both Cousins and Rondo. This has raised questions about his ability to hold this team together while they look for that last piece of the puzzle.

Is he on the hot seat? Maybe. However, Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé needs a coach who knows how to win in the NBA. In this day and age, players are always complaining about coaches, making these personnel conflicts the norm, especially through a long line of Kings coaches. Chances are, these same issues will exist with the next

Poe V. Leonard

...BACKGROUND Because this is an appeal from the denial of a motion for summary judgment, we construe the evidence in the light most favorable to Poe, the non-moving party. See, e.g., Goldberg v. Cablevision Sys. Corp., 261 F.3d 318, 324 (2d Cir.2001). I. Factual Background A. The Filming of the Trooper Candidate Testing Videos At some time during the fall of 1992, several administrative officials of the Connecticut State Police ("CSP") and the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services began to revise the testing procedures for trooper candidates at the CSP Training Academy ("police academy"). Captain Leonard, who had just assumed command of the CSP Bureau of Selections and Training,[1] supervised this ongoing project along with Dr. Martin Anderson ("Dr. Anderson"), the Chief Personnel Psychologist for the State of Connecticut. A particular focus of this project was the development 127*127 of several testing videos, designed to screen out those trooper candidates with poor observational and communicative skills. In essence, trooper candidates would be required to view a videotaped scene of a crime or other representative "real life" scenario that CSP officers typically confront and then to explain what they had observed. As originally planned, the video scenes would include a variety of circumstances: a depiction of a person driving while intoxicated, a man with a weapon who stops and robs a victim, a simple trespass, a "static" crime scene, and a scene with a distraught...
