Next to face to face contact, cell phones are the most common way that people choose to stay in touch with people and the world, but this uncontrollable need to avoid being disconnected has left many people paying obscene prices for their cell phone service every month. Despite these high, seemingly unreasonable costs that cell phone providers have decided to charge their customers, there are a number of things that people can do to avoid being broke and penniless after paying their bill.

It is a well-known fact that all cell phone carriers offer customers varying rates for their service. Consumer Switching Behavior

...by Susan Keaveney (1995) in her study of the service industry, and identifies additional factors specific to the cellular industry. The focus of the study is to identify the most important factors that cause consumers to switch. Using primary research, the author evaluates how TELUS Mobility is rated on each of the factors against the competition, by its own clients and the competitor's clients. Finally, the author provides recommendations to TELUS Mobility to effectively enhance its customer retention and build long-term client relationships. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Increase in demand for cellular phone service in the Canadian market has led to new entrants into the cellular industry. However, with the major players looking at expanding nationally, there have been a number of acquisitions. Until 2000, there were five service providers in the industry. With the acquisition of Clearnet by TELUS Mobility in 2000 and Microcell by Rogers AT&T earlier this year, there are only three large players left in the industry- Rogers Cantel, Bell Mobility and TELUS Mobility. The biggest challenge faced by the cellular industry today is the churn rate. Almost 30 percent of a company's subscribers leave per year and the cost of acquiring new subscribers is high, $600 CAD to $700 CAD per subscriber. This paper looks at the reasons for consumer switching behaviour and is based on Susan Keaveney's research on service industries...

...Responses * DQ#1: What is the importance of statistics in business decision making? Describe a business situation where statistics was used in making a decision. 1. Using statistics to evaluate the performance of your business. Taking all factors into account, determine whether you are making or losing money. In addition, determine the trend of your business. For example, determine whether, over time, you are making more or less profit (or loss). Track the share of the market that your business holds, and how this changes over time. Evaluate all these factors for each product type, even each model, in your company's line. The statistics to use here are simple line and bar graphs of data. These data can alert you to where you need to change aspects of your business, and how quickly you have to make that change. Furthermore, statistics are an excellent way to determine how you should allocate your resources to increase sales. Sales in a given market are a result of a number of factors, such as pricing, the size of the sales force, and the type and number of advertisements placed. However, these factors will not be equally important for every product. You would use multiple regressions to determine which of these factors are most important, and how much changing your asset allocation (for example, the size of the sales force) will change sales. 2. Statistics: The science of collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Descriptive Statistics - Finding The Skew 16,15,18,118 ...
