Throughout the F.A.T City Workshop video I was shocked and surprised by some of the activities that took place. The first thing that I took by surprise was, how students with disabilities process questions and answers. You would never know that some students have to take the time to process both the question thats being asked to them and process the answer they are going to give. Non-disabled children just process the answer they are about to give and don’t think so much about the question. Unless you are disabled in some way, you wouldn't know how hard it is for students who are to process what they are being asked. I thought this was really interesting because you just never know how others process. It’s tough on a student when a teacher is waiting for an answer and the student is still trying to process everything. Something else that caught my attention was “Distractibility vs. Attention Span.”

Children with learning disabilities don’t like surprises in a classroom. Students watch how teachers interact with other students and recognize when students answer correctly there is no praise. When a student answers incorrectly they are ragged on and possibly embarrassed. This makes student not want to volunteer and contribute in class because they don’t know what the outcome will be. This gives students anxiety, waiting and wondering if they will be called on is stressful. I can really relate to this portion of the film, it’s important for students to feel comfortable in a classroom before opening up and sharing the information they know. Students need to feel like they wont be embarrassed in front of a group students. They need to know that they will get encouraging feedback when they do
