...Mark Zuckerberg, In India, Defends Facebook’s Plan to Expand Internet Access I choose this very interesting article I found about one of my idol who I’ve always looked up to. This article is about Mark Zuckerberg founder and CEO of Facebook. Facebook is a worldwide social media with millions of users on daily basis. What is amazing about Zuckerberg is not him creating Facebook to me. I’m more impressed by how he runs the company, how intelligent he is, how he connects with his fans that look up to him like myself. Today Facebook is not a big deal to Zuckerberg, he spends little time in the office working on Facebook and more time giving back to the community. One of his main goals Mark Zuckerberg has is to make internet available worldwide for as cheap as possible. So he started his project in India bringing internet.org to communities in India who would probably never get the chance to surf the world wide web otherwise. Zuckerberg believes the internet is an important need for everyone so they can share information, learn, and grow as a community. By bring internet to these areas it will open so much possibilities for new inventions and creations that have to potential to better society as a whole. This program is in place and working in India as of right now. But not everyone completely agrees with the promises Zuckerberg is making to better the community. It seems like this is clearly doing good to the community because having access to information at the tip of our fingertips...

...Company Background In 2004, a Harvard student, Mark Zuckerberg, launched a new social media platform called “The Facebook”. Zuckerberg had already created a number of social media websites including Coursematch and Facemash, but wanted to create a new social media platform that had a sense of “exclusivity”. Zuckerberg launched the website with exclusivity for Harvard students – The Facebook required you had a Harvard.edu email in order to register. Soon after the launch and its growing popularity, the social network expanded to other Boston and Ivy League Universities. Later in 2005, The Facebook would change its name and website to “Facebook” and allow students with any high school or college email to register, including high schools and colleges in the UK. In the fall of 2006, Facebook would scrap their education-only email registry, and allow anyone over 13 years of age with a registered email address to join Facebook. The company’s reach would include over 2,000 colleges and 25,000 high schools throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. Moving into 2008, Facebook recognized the need for international headquarters to support the rapid growth of the company. They would soon set up their international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland, and begin testing and hiring several computer and software engineers in order to meet the bandwidth and internet traffics of an international online company. Facebook’s user growth would...

...Aspects of Interactivity, Hypertext and Hypermedia, and Social Media: Facebook, Friendster, Blogs and Second Orality, Construction of Reality and Multimedia and Ideology Synopsis Paper by: 2000-54307 ARADA, Blancaflor P. The Media Construction of Reality As I read this article, I remembered the Manila hostage crisis last August 23, 2010. Because Philippine media wanted to report factual details and information, the news network became too involved with the hostage crisis. Based on Wikipedia entry, “TV5 news anchor Erwin Tulfo remained in permanent contact with Mendoza, while superintendent Orlando Yebra and chief inspector Romeo Salvador led the negotiations. By this time, several major television channels in Manila and Hong Kong had replaced their programmes with non-stop live coverage of the hostage situation, and live footage became available worldwide. The news networks were allowed to film police activity, and as the bus was equipped with a television, the gunman was able to watch and find out what the police were doing, and was even able to find the locations of snipers” (Wikipedia, 2013). What made Mendoza snapped out was when his brother and son were taken away by the police in the live television coverage. This resulted to a failed hostage rescue attempt because eight (8) hostages were killed. It may be the Philippine National Police’s fault, or Mayor Alfredo Lim’s or Vice-Mayor Isko Moreno’s, or even President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s, but there is no doubt that...

...English class by far was my least liked class in all my middle school and high school education and never would I have thought that what I once disliked as a student would be of such importance to my future career. Being able to write, read, and understand, simply becomes the basics to learning and getting through college, and I, myself am still acquiring the necessary skills to become a better writer. In fact, one of the goals I plan to accomplish through my college education is to become a better writer. I can read and understand what I am reading pretty good but when it comes to writing I feel like I still lack some skills and expertise, and certainly being able to write will be of great value to my future career. Writing allows us to communicate our ideas, our beliefs, our understanding of a subject, and our dreams. Through this process one can inform, persuade, express, entertain, and explain, and this is why I believe writing is so important, especially when you have dedicated yourself to a life-long learning experience. School and from my experiences in writing I can say I’ve had but minimal training, just the basics. Never have I ever written something for fun or for my own good, every time I write it’s for a grade, not for my own pleasure nor for a greater purpose than just a grade, and surely this has to change. Ever sense I have become extremely interested in learning more about the world around me, understanding what is happening and why its happening, has made me...

...basics right. 2. START WITH YOUR BEST “First impression is the last impression” and the same is true for your SSC answer paper also. If the examiner gets a good first impression of you, it can only work in your favour. Therefore, the first answer that you write, take extra precaution to make sure there are no careless mistakes, cancellations or any turn-offs that will create a bad impression. Also, attempting questions in order is preferable but not necessary. You can start with the answer that you know best if you are not so confident. 3. LEVERAGE THE EXAMINER’S INERTIA The examiner is only human and if he/she feels that you know your subject matter perfectly, then he/she may automatically tend to overlook some minor mistakes you make later in the paper. Thus many top ranking SSC students choose to answer the questions they are most confident about first. If the examiner is ticking your earlier questions, chances are he will keep ticking. You don’t want the examiner to keep crossing your answers. Thus write your best answers first and your not so perfect answers last. This can be a useful strategy especially for your subjective SSC papers such as English, Hindi, Marathi and History-Civics. 4. PRESENT YOUR PAPER WELL Examiners cannot deduct marks if a student has not underlined important terms and not written neatly. However if you present your paper well, it makes it...

...During this course, I been leaning to write with the help of different literary devices such as visual texts or books. For two of the major assignment for this course 1301 English I used images to write a rhetorical analysis about the negative side of Facebook and with the help of a book called The Intervention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd I wrote a literary analysis. Therefore, while reviewing those essays I found there are some mistakes with the structure of the essay, there are enough examples to support the main idea, and I need to improve grammatical mistakes. For a good essay the structure should include the three main parts an introduction, body, and the conclusion. On both of my essays I include those three parts, however the thesis statement...

...How long did it take you to write your book? Ideas for a book can come from anywhere. A news story, a stretch of conversation. Many times, it is the thoughts of my own mind. I may think of a story for months or years before writing down a few pages. Such was the case with Deadly Justice. For the most part it takes at least 12 months sometimes longer for me to complete a book. 6. What types of marketing do you do to promote your writing? All types facebook twitter youtube and others. I give away books through Smashwords Draft2digtal, Amazon and others. I may have 2 advertisements going on Amazon at the same time. However I have found the greatest advertisement is word of mouth. 7. What are you currently working on? Do you have a new book out? Tales from My Back Porch came out in May this year. I’m working on another thriller and hope to have it ready for release by May of 2018 8. Do you have a project on the back burner? Tell me about it. I always have something rumbling around in my mind. Sometime my thoughts will end up on paper sometimes not. My wife’s favorite book is Never Ending Spring. She would like me to write a sequel. My most popular book is a small one entitled River of Fire. Some have urged me to write a sequel to it. I don’t know if I will or not. I really have to be engaged with a book to spend a year writing it 9. What would you tell a beginning writer who wants to publish but doesn't believe he/she has enough talent? Read good writing. Writers are readers...

Facebook Student Name: David Yew-Choong KAM Student ID: 09876307. 1 WHY do people use Facebook? Whether it's for posting updates, reposting articles, checking in locations/whereabouts, or playing Farmville – people participate in Facebook to stay connected, to relax, to be entertained, and to be kept informed (Bond, Ferraro, Luxton and Sands 2010, 4; Piskorski, Eisenmann and Smith 2012, 2). Some might even use it to spy on their partners, triggered possibly by romantic jealousy (Darvell, Walsh and White, 2011; Elphinston and Noller 2011, 631). Others use it as a platform to advance various social and political causes by creating public Facebook pages. Lynas is an Australian listed company with ambitions to process rare earths in Malaysia. Concerned about the carcinogenic effects of the post production waste, multiple Stop Lynas Save Malaysia (SLSM in short) Facebook pages have been created by various Malaysian green groups (Stop Lynas, Save Malaysia Facebook page, 2013). The resultant groundswell and widespread publicity on mainstream media could have well contributed to the share price slide over the last two years (Lynas Corporation Price Quotes, 2013). This case as well as the iconic Arab spring uprising in Egypt & Tunisia has clearly demonstrated the edge that Facebook has given to the small man on the street by conferring them...

...assigned the class to write a persuasive paper on our biggest pet peeve, so as soon as I get home from school I start to work. I turn on the computer and sit on my couch. Out of habit, I quickly go on Facebook. I got a notification! Excitedly, I click the little red notification. Game request. Disappointed, I decide to close Facebook before I stalk everybody I know. I need to get some work done. What should I do my paper on? I open Google and quickly search up ‘Pet Peeves List’. I click on the first link to Getannoyed.com. I start reading the list of pet peeves. Drivers who don't use a turn signal – I don’t drive so it doesn’t bother me. People who read out loud what they're typing in an email or letter – I do that so I can’t write about it. I open another tab. F-a-c-e-b-o-o-k.com. Facebook asks me, “what’s on my mind?” I update my status to ‘yay for having homework on the first week’ and quickly scan the homepage. Hmm, who to look up? No, no Brittany, don’t get distracted. Do your work. I close the Facebook tab and go back to the pet peeves list. I read on. Going through the drive thru, then having to go back when they screw your order up – Oh, I do hate that. Absent-mindedly, I open another tab. Facebook. Four people liked my status: Craig, Victoria, Jessica and Brigitte. I click ‘chat’ to check if anyone cool is online. Chloe, Sierra, Hailey and nope. No one cool. Brittany, concentrate. I close the Facebook tab once again and go back to the pet...

The people that one shares with are often members of social networks, such as friends, family or peers in a organization. This sharing has taken place on many systems such as bulletin board systems (BBS), image boards, forums and blogs. But none of these social systems have had the marketing success, as Facebook. How Facebook works To use Facebook a person, group, or corporation registers an account and then specifies some basic profile information. Then the user can post status updates, upload videos and pictures, or “check-in” by posting their location. Examples of social circles might be people that worked at Contoso, live in Seattle, or are friends of Bob. Though the use of these declared social circles. I do text my parents with full paragraphs without using abbreviations. I really do not like writing, but if I have to then I will. With this class, I know I have to write and I’m willing to, but I might take longer writing in third person then first person with a topic I’m not familiar with. I am great at looking at a picture and can write a story based it. I feel comfortable writing in the English class as long as I have the time to write and think about my steps needed to write the paper. Inventory: When I took that quiz, I felt that is was accurate based on who I am. I was between being independent and social. I usually am social when I need to be but mostly independent. I was closely related to creative but was also close to pragmatic. Spatial had a five for a score. I am usually looking at the data and using it the way I think it works. I had a score of six for rational, I also had a score of five for concrete. My rational skills are high, and I think I would work on being more emotional about things that need it for writing. I believe that being concrete is good but being abstract is also a good thing. It gives the writer the big picture of their writing for a reader. ...
