Many of these issues are rooted in what many consider to be a lack of diversity within the police force and the population that support and defend, but there are many challenges that do not fall on the shoulders of our agencies to overcome. ...Barriers Facing Minorities in Librarianship Diversity is an important challenge for the field of librarianship as the profession does not reflect or represent the United States population and the communities served. Many barriers exist with improvement needed in the areas of recruitment and retention, cultural programs, LIS curriculum, and more career advancement opportunities for ethic minority groups. In its 2007 report Diversity Counts, the American Library Association (ALA) stated 86.5% of its membership as Caucasian and that “credentialed and non-credentialed librarians…are predominately….white”. The recent statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau clearly indicate the demographic changes in the nation will continue to impact librarianship. In order for the profession to remain relevant to the communities they serve, more work is needed to bring minorities into the workforce. The references listed are beneficial for those interested to learn more about the challenges facing minorities and some proactive steps to help increase diversity in the profession. ...ISSUES IN MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION NAME: INSTITUTION: A multicultural setup brings people with diverse backgrounds together. The environment in the school should provide everybody with an equal opportunity to realize his/her full academic potential. The diversity should offer a unique learning experience for every individual within the community. However, racism comes up as a major issue in a diverse cultural setup. Racism cuts across the society and it affects the education system. Racism adversely affects the education of diverse students in our community. In spite of numerous attempts for all humanity to have equal treatment, racism exists in our education system. It is evident that racism in our education system contributes to the dismal performance of students from minority groups. Personal observations highlight the fact that racism affects the academic lives of those students who are racially abused. In our education system, the students mostly affected by racism are those from the minority groups. The students mostly affected by this problem are of African and Asian descent. Even though women still have a long way to go in terms of corporate, economic, and government leadership. Till this day gender is playing a large role in social construction. Some of these issues and factors are within the control of women and some are not we can clearly see this implemented in this case. Briarwood seems to have great opportunities for employees to excel and move up in the organization but it is not apparent that these opportunities are equal for both men and women. Also on an individual basis there is a lot of competition, even though competition is healthy at times, in this case it seems to be more hurtful that it is helpful and caused tension between employees. Also in many organizations the same way there are standards and guidelines that are clearly stated but with this promotion not information was provided to the people that were interested like Diane Williams of what the organization was looking for Diane Williamson felt like she should have been the one to be promoted to the vice president position, she is not receiving equal pay for her positions and that top management is not recognizing its employees achievements and not rewarding them for a job well done.
