• How did you establish a relationship with the child’s family? What approaches did you take to better understand the child’s family, their community, life experiences, values, and culture?

After choosing Kiera as the child I wanted to focus on, I was able to establish a relationship with her family through our interactions at the school. Kiera’s mother drives Kiera and her older sister to school each day and during her drop-offs and pick-ups along with her time in the classroom, I have become familiar with their family through shared conversations and small talk.
To gain a better understanding of Kiera’s family I had to develop “mutual trust and respect” (Speirs, 2011, p.2) which evolved through frequent and positive interactions. I found it essential to initiate conversations with Kiera’s mother where I shared personal interests of my own that we both connected too so that I was comfortable to talk to and approachable in the future. Utilizing these approaches made for a pleasant home visit experience, both in asking if I could visit the family’s home and in my time there.
In understanding Kiera’s family to the best of my ability, it was necessary to put any assumptions aside and go into it with an open mind. I arrived at Kiera’s home in the afternoon and …show more content…
Kiera’s family moved to a new home with a rent that was more affordable. Along with the move came exposure to cultural differences. Kiera and her family live in a neighborhood that has a large Hispanic population, a culture and language different from their own. Kiera’s mother feels this is advantageous for her children and that they will be more accepting and well-rounded individuals because of this. Despite the different backgrounds and languages Kiera’s mother shares similar values of many members in the community, holding family and education of high

...1 If a person is writing an academic discussion paper, quoting the book or author he is analyzing means he is using a primary source. On the other hand, if the writer is quoting or paraphrasing an opinion about the book or author from the source means he is using a secondary source. Depending on the type of essay, both primary and secondary sources are acceptable options of any writing. Applying the right type of sources is an important part of an essay to make your arguments more credible, understandable, and clear to the readers. Although primary sources are the first choices to make any paper more credible as well as stronger, using secondary sources in your paper would support the point which is made by the primary source. Observe the Community on Language Diversity

...Community Observation Community Observation Paper Mike Richardson Liberty University Summer 2014 SOCI 200-D01 LUO Professor Cole Community Observation Paper My Community Observation Paper dealt with observing the homeless issue in my community and the local Mission that is the main source of support for individuals without a home. This experience is something that I’ve witnessed from my job for the past several years, but this prospective was different because of the many different types of people I witnessed struggling with this issue. WHAT WAS OBSERVED: I observed many different individuals struggling with a variety of problems either in the form of alcoholism, drug addiction, but the main issue that seems to be the problem is mental illness. Poverty is just a symptom that results from not being able to function in society. Yes, there were families; however, this seemed to be the minority. It’s very concerning to see the children that reside in the mission and makes you wonder how do you have any advantage moving forward in life if this is your foundation. The shelter or Mission is a large facility that houses several hundred each night including women and children. There are strict rules in place to provide some sense of normality to the individuals who stay there nightly, plus to provide a degree of safety. Some who cause issues are temporary suspended from residing in the shelter and some are permanently banned due to not following the rules...

...Child Observation Subjects: Boy-3 years old, Girl-4 years old, Mother. Hypothesis: My hypothesis was to determine the effects of maternal presence versus absence on sibling behavior. Setting: This observation took place in the children's home. As a playroom they used the living room because that is where all their toys are. For my observation I used both the siblings and their mother. During the observation I was present including the children and their mother. I am not related to those children. I happened to meet them a couple of times because they are related to my boyfriend. I do not see the children frequently. I will see them only when my boyfriend's family will invite us to a family get together. I did not interact with the children at all, only the mother interacted with them. Methodology: In my study I only observed a mixed sex pair of siblings. Where the sister was older than her brother. The mother and the two siblings were observed in the family's home, in their living room, instead of a playroom laboratory. I started the observation at 5:00 PM. Five minutes before I started my study I explained to the mother that she would have to interact with the children for almost an hour. Then I told her that she would have to leave the room for around the same time, so that the children may interact without her presence. I also explained that after the children were done playing together alone that she would have to come back and ask them to put...

Gathering Research Data Paper

...Gathering Research Data Paper Hayley Lacy CJA/334 April 11, 2016 Rhonda Grant Gathering Research Data Paper     Police officers are viewed by the masses of Americans that they are sworn to protect as the men and women in blue. They have sworn to protect the innocent and keep them from harm’s way and in turn do much more than that for their community. It takes an extraordinaire person to be a police officer. They are someone who is willing to dedicate their lives, health and safety in order to protect those who depend on them. In this paper we will attempt to address and research an interest that has been voiced concerning police officers and their jobs. In this paper we will state the purpose behind our proposed research. We will inform you of the interview structure we will use and we will inform you as to some of the questions that we would ask. We will give distinct advantages of a qualitative data-gathering strategy, such as participant observation, over more qualitative approaches. We will inform you when conducting survey research the importance of informed consent and confidentiality. It is a common conception that police officers choose their particular career path simply because they are inheriting a family member’s desire. They choose to be an officer because their father or their mother or a relative was an officer. It is a common conception that officers are not chosen they are inherited and expected to be from family. This area of interest is something...

...3 in 1 People may think that they talk the same to everyone. I think people are like a clover one plant but with three parts. With some observations I want to go into depth and determine if people change the ways they talk depending on whom they are talking to, family, friends and co-works/ professional world. I feel that the way someone speaks determines the way people think about them. It is important because no one wants their co-workers to think they are not smart or friends to think they are arrogant. I took the time to go and observed two people in their daily lives. I followed Mark and Tina around for six hours each- two at work, two with their family, and two with their friends. Mark is 50 years old and has 3 children; he has been working in the same factory as Tina for the last 30 years. Tina has been working in this plant for the last 7 years and is 30 years old. She also has 2 children. I chose to follow Mark and Tina because they work at the same factory, went to the same high school, and grew up in the same area. I did this because I felt like this would make my observations close to each other, therefore if there are any changes in the way they talk between family, friends, and co-workers it would reduce the chances that it could be from outside influences. The first time I went to observe I went to a factory in Findlay, Ohio to see both Tina and Mark at the same time. I sat and observed them without asking them any questions. I did not want to...

Observation

...Observation The student is considered a novice as an observer of children. The student observes children to gain practice and understanding in child development. Students have an obligation to protect children and respect school personnel. Observers are usually visitors in the classroom. The observer must keep in mind that they are a disruption to the regular processes in the classroom and they should respect the classroom teacher’s direction. The protection of the child’s rights in any type of child study is important. Regardless of the procedure used to collect information, the child’s protection is paramount. The child must not come to any harm (physical or mental) through participation in the observation process. Confidentiality must be utilized at all times. Talking about children and families with others outside of class or with the classroom teacher is prohibited. Please use fictitious names in written reports. Any concerns about a child’s safety should be addressed immediately with the classroom teacher or other responsible party. Observation tells us about children’s behavior – what they are doing. If we want to understand children’s development in school settings then we should observe them in those settings. Observation that takes place in a natural environment is referred to as naturalistic observation. Qualities of a Good Observer: · Recognize personal bias and preconceived assumptions about children. · Stay focus for a long period...
