By that afternoon there was a checklist made to whittle that number down to 20. On this particular Thursday we had only five candidates left to choose from. The decision was made to meet after the classes were done at the local All-You-Can-Eat buffet in town, Golden Carroll; reservations were made for 6:30 and the party size was for 12. The group was made up of the department directors; nursing, information technology, graphic design, electronics, business, criminal justice, dean of academics, registrar, directors of career services, finance, recruiting, and myself. We strive to provide them with a certificate and GED courses, and some vocational training. Our goals are to help these kids learn the necessary skills to lead a better life, and to gain employment opportunities in the future. Impact of Organizational Structure There are many things that a director will face when trying to turn a vision into a reality. The first thing of course will be the hiring process. Having a vision, the director will have a certain idea of how he/she expects the organization to be run. So, when the hiring process begins, he/she will want to make sure that they find the most qualified people, and ones who will share the same ideology as they do. The one drawback that I can foresee, are the ones with exceptional qualifications wanting more money. With having a budget, this leaves very little room for salary negotiations. Another issue would be finding the right place to open this organization. Since you have a budget, you must choose the best place possible and the right size as well. Being on a budget could make this task kind of difficult. Finding the right place to work on...

...I believe all persuasive approaches will be different depending on who I will be approaching in the audience. I order to have an effective approach I must know who I am approaching and how I will approach them. Considering that a message can be directed to a boss, a peer, a challenging person, or an open-minded person I must be able to construct or tailor my approach according to each person in order to get to the see my point of view and gain their support. Each person will develop their opinions differently not only because each person has their own mind but because each plays a different role. For example, if I am approaching my boss in discussion I must consider the fact that he or she has worked extremely hard to obtain a position where they can lead others and is person who is respected because of their position who goals are in line with that of company’s vision. Therefore, my approach would be to follow the same order of directing my approach to line up with the company’s goals. If I were speaking with a peer, this approach would be probably be the easiest considering that we have established grounds of comfort and our views and goals would be easier. When approaching a peer there is no or very little preparation involved. Usually, peers see things eye to eye and very rarely does someone have to work hard in order to make a good impression or get them to see my point of view. In the case of the challenging person, this would be the complete opposite of a peer...

...TEAM ASSIGNMENT – SEM 2 - 2013-07-30 Lily and Morris are the directors and shareholders of Zap Graphics Pty Ltd. Recently, the company has began to suffer cash flow problems and needed additional capital. Lilly persuaded Rodney, a close friend of hers, to invest $100,000 in Zap Graphics Pty Ltd. Lily and Morris held a directors meeting and decided to issue Rodney with two shares in the company. A general meeting of shareholders also appointed Rodney as the director of the company. At the shareholders meeting Rodney said that he would not be attending board meetings and wanted to be treated as a “silent partner.” The company’s financial position improved as a result of Rodney’s $100,000 investment, as well as the considerable efforts of Lily and Morris. Despite the company’s increased profits Lily and Morris decided not to declare a dividend for the current year. Instead they gave themselves pay raises and arranged for the company to lease two new Mercedes-Benz cars for their personal use. Rodney began to attend directors meetings and made a number of suggestions to improve the profitability of the business. He also questioned Lily and Morris about their pay raises. Lily and Morris resented these questions and took the following actions: - They formed another company, Lily, Morris & Carol Graphics Pty Ltd, in which Rodney was not involved and diverted a valuable government design contract that they had been negotiating to their new company. - They also...

...Tom’s confusing Role: In 1990, Tom changed his job title from being a ‘managing director’ to ‘executive software designer’. On one hand he did not want own up to managerial responsibilities and on the other he still wanted to exercise the right to supervise the directors. This mismatch of roles confused the employees about Tom’s position at Serendipity and should’ve given Anne an early sign of the buyout. In 1991, after Rick Delaney, Tom’s nominal boss was fired; Tom still refused to take the position of the software development director. Anne over-burdened: Anne played a pivotal role in the success of Serendipity. Due to her networking with people (letters to her previous employer) and her unrelenting spirit, the company had great business opportunities. She single-handedly managed Serendipity and also adopted the role of promoting it by giving presentations at trade-shows and conferences and writing articles for computer publications. Even though she never complained, we still believe that she had more than she should’ve handled. Tom’s misbehavior with colleagues: While Tom’s marriage was ending, he was accused of sexually harassing employees. Alan Perkins, the director of marketing in agreement with two other directors, filed these incidents and Tom was warned. With the spread of this news there was chaos in the organization, however, Tom described it as a “supportive act”. Anne realized that this could have repercussions and Serendipity could be sued. ...Background The Sundale Club is the largest athletic/social club in the city. It has been established for many years and has a prestigious reputation. Currently, the membership is slightly under 1,000. Sundale once had a waiting list for those wishing to join, but in the past few months the list has been exhausted and the director, Bob Watts, is considering a membership drive to fill unexpected membership vacancies. Alice Smith was thinking about her modeling job on her way home that evening. Today had been dandy. Ted Ellis, the athletic director, had fired Pat Franklin, who had worked for Sundale for nearly nine years. The Problem The whole mess started five months ago when Ellis hired Chuck Johnson to become the men’s activity manager. Shortly after Johnson arrived, rumors started that he was a homosexual. Two of the members complained to Frank Havens, the assistant athletic director, that Johnson had made verbal passes at them. Ted Ellis and Johnson were close friends, so Havens was reluctant to approach his boss with this problem. During the next few years more incidents involving Johnson’s behavior were reported by various staff members to Havens, in addition to complaints from club members. Havens could sense that his staff was wondering why he had not done something about the situation, and he was aware that seven of the male members had withdrawn from the club. Finally, he requested a meeting with Ted Ellis. The Meeting The meeting with Ellis did not go...
