My first day at college is an important event of my life. To me it is an unforgettable day. During my school days. I had a glimpse of college life from my elder brothers and sisters. I was most curiously awaiting the day when I would start my college life. I thought that the college life would offer me a free life; here restrictions would be few and threat of teachers would be little. At last the longed for day came in. I was admitted to the Government College of my city. I entered the college premises with new hopes and aspirations. I was glad to see that the college presented a new sight. It was quite different from what I had seen in and around our school. I came across many unknown faces. ...Worst Days of My Life A simple life has a different meaning and value for everyone. Life is beautiful, but not always easy, it has problems too, and the challenge lies in facing them with courage, letting the beauty of life act like a balm, which makes the pain bearable, during trying times, by providing hope. I myself experienced a lot of bad days. I may say that because people are more negative, or better to say we remember negative things better than the positive ones. We may handle same problems and facts about life differently, not only because people are different but also it depends on the place, and time the action is taken. One of my worst experiences in life or better to say the worst days of my life was the first year I moved to United States. It was September 9th of 2007, when my family and I went to get our visa for the USA. I remember exactly that day that my brother was standing outside of United States embassy in Turkey. He couldn’t come in because he was over twenty-one, so he was aged out from the family visa that we were supposed to get all together. Everything went well, and after the interview was done we went out to see where my brother is. He was crying outside! He always had a dream of coming to United States, and for that reason that he got aged out, he had to wait for eight more year for his dream to come true. I assume that my mom had the worst day of her life, that she can come to United States, but her son can’t, and has to wait for eight more...

...of life are the best years to have aim and goals in life. These years are very important in molding a person’s career and future. My life took a major turning point during these years from 1997 to 2007. These years drastically changed my life, for what I am today that I thought before during my teenage years. Remembering those years gives me a sense of joy and happiness and a sense of satisfaction in completing and achieving few steps in life considered to be important. From 1997 to 2000 were my days in college. At first I felt very difficult to adjust to the surrounding, but when I started making friends the life was much better and stress free. Those days were most exciting days as I was independent and my thoughts were developed to mould my life and career. I was seeing great things for future and planning my life for good. In college days I learnt a lot about the nature and philosophy of different people. Basic lessons of life were learnt in my college days. I knew this world can be good place to live and can also be a destructive and bad place to live too. But what matters is the way you live the life and what principles you stand for. These were many occasions where I needed to make important decisions in my life. Some come out to be beneficial but some decisions were not at all correct. Mistakes made in life teach you to step forward to achieve and perform better the next time. “Failures are stepping stone to success”. This saying really strengthened me during my college...

...Memories that we reflect back to as the “good times’. Never understand the meaning of life, let alone the memories and lessons that complements it. Lessons, of life and hardships, memories of love and neighborhood games of tag. Many memories that we hold near and dear to us everyday were once lessons that life taught us. Though not all memories we have are fun and full of laughter, some maybe even most are full of pain and despair. A few memories I reflect on often are, meeting my best friend in elementary school and losing a close friend of mines in middle. Also, being crowned Homecoming Queen and getting my first acceptance letter to college. All of these memories have aided me in my everyday life with a person that’s been placed in my life and lessons they’ve taught me. When I was five years old I began first grade at Henry W. Allen Elementary School. Now as a kid I was very outgoing and very friendly. I saw the world as this huge coloring book just waiting for me to add my own color to it. I saw the innocence in everyone. I was so naïve and so full of life that some things I just didn’t understand. One thing that I never understood was bullying because everyone to me were the same. I didn’t see color, ethnicity, physical disorder, or even gender, I just saw humans. While on the yard one recess I saw a group of kids that I associated myself with harassing this little girl that was in my class. I walked over to them and instantly began to push them away from her and tell...

...“Lub-dub, lub-dub......” So distinct is my heartbeat, that like a drumstick hitting a drum, rapidly and relentlessly. Standing in lunch queue under the sun at noon on the last day of August, the initial test day of the first semester of ninth grade, I listened to the pit-pat from my chest, wondering why it is such heat at the end of summer that I was about to get sunstroke. Not until I felt sick and giddy and was likely to faint, that I finally realized that my heart has been beating abnormally for a long while. After my heart beating restlessly rest of the day, I could hardly stand up. Mother came and the hospital was the next stop for me. Surprisingly with no surprise, according to the doctor, I was attacked by an inborn heart disease at the age...

...prison serving a five year sentence for your first offense of being a manufacture and distributing drugs. You probably couldn’t picture that in your mind because it is something you never want to happen and think that never would happen. That is what ran through my mind growing up, that I would never experience life in prison. But years ago, after graduating from high school going into college I surrounded myself around the wrong type of people. I found myself being in college that it was hard to get a job and concentrate on school, and one day I was introduced to the possibility of making money. The way I was going to make money was by distributing drugs, and my first few thoughts were; I shouldn’t do this because of the consequences of being caught, or I should take this opportunity to make some good money while in school. At the end of the day I ended up taking the opportunity and after continuing to do it for a year a two months, I was caught distributing and then sentenced to five years of prison. That was the time of my life where I was scared because I did not know what to do or what to expect prison was going to be like for me. My time being in prison everyday consisted of waking up at 7:30am everyday as officers did a roll call, eat breakfast at 8am then go do the job I was assigned to do that day if there was any, from there I would go to lunch and then back to work if there was more work to be done or I would go back to my cell to read a book, then when it was time for...

...The year I was born was a year of triumph. It was a year to celebrate and praise, because I Maniratanga Mariam, and other kids were born. Luckily, I’m proud that the year I was born wasn’t a leap year, but a year to raise the roof, and celebrate with dignity. I was born February 28th, 2003 a jolly smiling proud child! I’ll never forget that day, the day I stepped my first foot on an airplane, the day where I knew my life would change forever. Ever since that day, life has momentarily changed vigorously, and rapidly. To this day I thank my parents for having the opportunity to bring our whole family, over to the United States of America. If I would’ve never came to America, I wouldn’t have had the options that I have today. I wouldn’t have been educated the way education is taught here. In my days in America, I may have not known the language, but I’m still thankful that we had advocates support us along the way. Without them, I can’t imagine us trying to tackle everyday obstacles. Presumably, I think we would’ve made...

...believe what Henry Davis Thoreau said, “As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler,” until I decided to let go of things within my comfort zone that complicated my life. During two weeks I did things at home, work, and school differently in attempt to reduce my level of stress. I was apprehensive about the my experiment as I did not want to consume my time doing pointless things that would instead increase my stress and cause me to have a heart attack, or so I thought. My experiment proved to be successful, I am a believer. Small changes at work, school, and home transformed my life completely, my life has been overhauled, it has been simplified. The first day of my experiment was complicated, I had a problem letting go of the way I was accustomed to doing things. The goal was to simplify but that did not come at first. I had to create “to do” lists to make sure that I was starting from the beginning, to make sure that I was establishing a good foundation. Since one of my biggest problems is clutter because I claim I will put things away later, I decided to tackle that first. My clutter, my mess, was at the root of all of my problems. I had to put everything away and had to make sure that everything I use on a daily basis had its own space that was accessible to me. The next big task was making sure to put all of the items away once I was done using them. For mail, I made sure that I had my shred machine and files in a location that was easily accessible...

There are several reasons why I feel that I have had a wonderful life and will explain what factors contributed my success and happiness in life. I am sharing several key events that happened while I was growing up that influenced my adulthood. I truly believe I became separated from a lot of my parental influences and depended on reading books, and the influence of friends from church, which strayed me into the right paths for my life. ...I Can Do Anything” As a young boy beginning my first day of grade school, I was excited but frightened at the same time. You see this would be my first experience away from my parents or grandparents. The school building seemed so big and had so many doors and hallways. My mother tried to console me by walking me to my classroom to meet my first teacher. I was frightened and visibly upset to see my mother leave me. After a couple of hours into my first day of school, my father who was an over the road truck driver and hadn’t seen me leave home earlier that morning, stopped by the school to see how my first day was going. Wow, was I happy to see him! Although frightened and upset I had no intentions of letting him leave without me. Needless to say, my first day of grade school became my first half day of grade school. Through all the emotions and tears, I neglected to observe the school motto, but apparently my parents noticed. The next morning while preparing to to to school my mother kept telling me, “If you try hard enough, you can do anything”. Well on my second day of school as I walked in with a feeling a little more at ease, I noticed on nearly every wall a single phrase that stuck with me from that point. The school motto read, “If I try hard enough, I can do anything.” From that day forward I began to believe that single phrase. I was my parents first child of two and by the time I turned seven years old, my little sister was born. In the beginning the thought...
