...requires wide operating range of speed and fast torque response, regardless of the load variations. Also, the conventional controllers have to linearize the non-linear system of induction motor in order to calculate the parameters, which is almost impossible to obtain a perfect non-linear model. Hence the values of the parameters that are obtained from it are thereby approximate. This leads us to more advanced control methods to meet the real demand. To overcome the complexities of conventional controllers, fuzzy logic controller have been implemented in many motor applications. A Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is incorporated for combination with Phase Locked Loop (PLL) for precise and robust speed of induction motor. The fuzzy logic controller is used to pull the motor speed into the locking range of PLL. When the speed error is between the set point speed and the measured speed is larger than the preset value, the motor speed is incremented or decremented by the fuzzy logic controller towards the PLL locking range. In order to achieve excellent speed regulation, PLL control replaces the FLC when speed error is within the locking range of PLL. When the system operates in the phase locked...

...International Review of Business Research Papers Vol.2. No.4. December 2006, Pp. 39-50 eBusiness-Process-Personalization using Neuro-Fuzzy Adaptive Control for Interactive Systems Zunaira Munir1 , Nie Gui Hua2 , Adeel Talib3 and Mudassir Ilyas4 ‘Personalization’, which was earlier recognized as the 5th ‘P’ of e-marketing , is now becoming a strategic success factor in the present customer-centric e-business environment. This paper proposes two changes in the current structure of personalization efforts in ebusinesses. Firstly, a move towards business-process personalization instead of only website-content personalization and secondly use of an interactive adaptive scheme instead of the commonly employed algorithmic filtering approaches. These can be achieved by applying a neuro-intelligence model to web based real time interactive systems and by integrating it with converging internal and external e-business processes. This paper presents a framework, showing how it is possible to personalize e-business processes by adapting the interactive system to customer preferences. The proposed model applies Neuro-Fuzzy Adaptive Control for Interactive Systems (NFACIS) model to converging business processes to get the desired results. Field of Research: Marketing, e-business 1. Introduction: As Kasanoff (2001) mentioned, the ability to treat different people differently is the most fundamental form of human intelligence. "You talk differently to your boss than to...

Incorrect credit judgement causes huge financial losses. This work describes the use of an evolutionary-fuzzy system capable of classifying suspicious and non-suspicious credit card transactions. The paper starts with the details of the system used in this work. A series of experiments are described, showing that the complete system is capable of attaining good accuracy and intelligibility levels for real data. 1. INTRODUCTION Fraud is a big problem today. Looking at credit card transactions alone, with millions of purchases every month, it is simply not humanly possible to check every one. And when many purchases are made with stolen credit cards, this inevitably results in losses of significant sums. The only viable solution to problems...

...2229-5518 1 Autonomous Room Air Cooler Using Fuzzy Logic Control System M. Abbas, M. Saleem Khan, Fareeha Zafar Abstract— This research paper describes the design and implementation of an autonomous room air cooler using fuzzy rule based control system. The rule base receives two crisp input values from temperature and humidity sensors, divides the universe of discourse into regions with each region containing two fuzzy variables, fires the rules, and gives the output singleton values corresponding to each output variable. Three defuzzifiers are used to control the actuators; cooler fan, water pump and room exhaust fan. The results obtained from the simulation were found correct according to the design model. This research work will increase the capability of fuzzy logic control systems in process automation with potential benefits. MATLAB-simulation is used to achieve the designed goal. Index Terms— Fuzzy Logic Control, Inference Engine, MATLAB simulation and Rule Selection. —————————— —————————— 1 INTRODUCTION ODERN processing systems are heavily dependent on automatic control systems. The control automation has become essential for machines and processes to run successfully for the achievement of consistent operation, better quality, reduced operating costs, and greater safety. The control system design, development and implementation need the specification of plants, machines or processes to be controlled. A control system consists of controller and plant, and...

...Evaluating Competitiveness Using Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process - A Case Study of Chinese Airlines Abstract With the development of a national market economy, the Chinese aviation industry is now confronted with international competition. Therefore, it is necessary to research the competitive status of Chinese national aviation, as well as advice on how to enhance the competitiveness of the Chinese aviation industry. The main objective of this paper is to propose FAHP as an effective solution for resolving the uncertainty and imprecision in the evaluation of airlines’ competitiveness. In this paper, we review the research of industrial international aviation competitiveness at both home and abroad, discuss a theoretical framework for the study of aviation competitiveness, establish an index system with 5 first-order indicators and 17 second-order indicators, set up a Chinese aviation competitiveness model based on simple fuzzy numbers from the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process, and evaluate the competitiveness of 5 major Chinese airlines. The results show that this model and these indicators are scientific and practical, with a wide range of application prospects for the purpose of improving and increasing Chinese airline competitiveness in the international market. The effective approach presented in this paper is especially applicable when subjective judgments on performance ratings and attribute weights are not accessible or reliable, or when suitable decision makers...

Orabona 4, Bari 70125, Italy Abstract In transportation management the measure of systems efficiency is a key issue in order to verify the performances and propose the best countermeasure to achieve the prefixed goals. Many efforts have been made in this field to provide satisfactory answer to this problem. One of the most used methodologies is the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) that has been in many fields. The DEA technique is a useful is non-parametric method that allow to handle many output and input at the same time. In many real world applications, input and output data cannot be precisely measured. Imprecision (or approximation) and vagueness may be originated from indirect measurements, model estimation, subjective interpretation, and expert judgment or available information from different sources. Therefore, methodologies that allow the analyst to explicitly deal with imprecise or approximate data are of great interest, especially in freight transport where available data as well as stakeholders’ behavior often suffer from vagueness or...

It consists of generation, transmission, and distribution subsystems, which used to belong to the same electric utility in a given geographical area. But, currently, the electric power industry is in transition from large, vertically integrated utilities providing power at regulated rates to an industry that will incorporate competitive companies selling unbundled power at possibly lower rates. With this new structure, which will include separate generation, distribution, and transmission companies with an open-access policy, comes the need for tighter control strategies. The strategies must maintain the level of reliability that consumers not only have taken for granted but expect even in the event of considerable structural changes, such as a loss...

...What Is Fuzzy Logic? Fuzzy Logic: | a form of mathematical logic in which truth can assume a continuum of values between 0 and 1. | | Princeton Web Dictionary Fuzzy logic is a form of logic with more than two values. Formally it can be called as probabilistic logic and it simply deals with approximated values rather than exact ones; as in daily language, it includes grays along with black and white. It is also accepted as a problem solving control system methodology. Fuzzy logic is a type of logic that recognizes more than only true and false values. With fuzzy logic, variables can be represented with degrees of truthfulness and falsehood. As an example ‘today is sunny’ statement can be used; this statement, might be 100% true if there are absolutely no clouds, 80% true if there are a few clouds, 50% true if it's partly cloudy and 0% true if it rains all day. Advantages of fuzzy logic can be listed as: * Fuzzy logic is easy to understand. * Fuzzy logic is flexible. * Fuzzy logic is based on natural language. * Fuzzy logic can model nonlinear functions of arbitrary complexity. Advantages of fuzzy logic continued: * Fuzzy logic is tolerant of imprecise data. * Fuzzy logic can be blended with conventional control techniques. * Fuzzy logic can be built on top of the experience of experts. * Fuzzy logic does not solve new problems. It uses new methods to solve everyday problems. * Mathematical concepts within fuzzy reasoning...

...A Fuzzy Expert System for Task Distribution in Teams under Unbalanced Workload Conditions José A. Benito Calleja and Jimmy Troost Thales Nederland, Hengelo, The Netherlands jose.benito@nl.thalesgroup.com, jimmy.troost@nl.thalesgroup.com Abstract Inappropriate workload levels on the team members of a naval force have been detected as a problem that can threaten the performance and safety of future naval operations. A suitable distribution of tasks among the members of a team is a crucial issue in order to prevent high and low workload levels. In this paper, we propose a rule-based expert system, the Task Distribution Expert System (TDES), which assists team leaders to manage mental workload in a team by suggesting appropriate task assignments. The TDES emulates the behavior of a team leader deciding which member of the team should perform a task and how. The system handles mental workload as an uncertain fuzzy concept comprising three fuzzy variables that represent the way mental workload affects performance. Automation issues and different recommendations for effective workload management in teams are analyzed and incorporated. A prototype demonstrates the system. 1. Introduction Naval Command and Control (C2) systems support organizations formed by a number of people cooperating on a multitude of tasks simultaneously to achieve overall goals. Future naval C2 systems are characterized by less people, more information available, shorter decision...

...A fuzzy logic approach to urban land-use mapping Henning Sten Hansen National Environmental Research Institute, Ministry of Environment & Energy Frederiksborgvej 399, DK-4000, Roskilde, Denmark Phone : +45 46 30 18 07 Fax : +45 46 30 12 12 HSH@DMU.DK Abstract. The growth of cities represents huge problems for modern societies. Monitoring, analysing and modelling the urban dynamic call for detailed mapping of urban land-use. Traditionally, urban land-use mapping is based on orthophotos and satellite images, but deriving land-use from remote-sensing alone is not satisfactory. The Danish Building & Dwelling Register is a database containing detailed information like year of construction, use, area etc. Therefore, this database provides a useful foundation for urban land-use mapping. To be able to track urban land-use changes over time, we have chosen square cells (100m x 100m) as basic mapping units. Generally, land cover and land-use mapping are based on crisp classification, but in the current project we have applied a fuzzy modeling approach to land-use mapping. Fuzzy classification offers a better choice in urban land-use mapping, because it can indicate the primary, secondary etc. land-use simultaneously. This will offer more meaningful information for planners and a more detailed understanding of the land-use patterns. Based on these principles, a nation wide urban land-use database for the year 1997 is established. 1 Introduction Metropolitan areas all over the...
