In Gardner’s theory, he outlined that there are seven different areas of intelligence that human beings demonstrate strengths in. All of these areas of intelligence have their own developmental sequence. Gardner believes that the human intelligence is more complex than just the verbal and math. He believes that these seven areas are tools for learning, problem solving and creating, and often are influenced by the culture in which one person is around. The seven intelligences are logical-mathematical, linguistic, spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal and intrapersonal. Logical-Mathematical intelligence is reasoning and calculating. People with this learning intelligence can be taught through logic games, investigations, and mysteries. Linguistic intelligence is using words effectively. These learners have highly developed auditory skills and often think in words. Spatial-Visual intelligence is being conscious of space and orientation. They like to draw, read maps and daydream. Musical intelligence is when someone shows sensitivity to rhythm and sound. They tend to study better with music playing in the background. Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence is where you use the body effectively, like a dancer. They communicate well through body language and can be taught by hands on learning. Interpersonal intelligence is the understanding and interacting with others. These people have many friends and empathy for others. Intrapersonal intelligence is the understanding of one’s own interests and goals. These learners have a strong will, confidence and are very opinionated. I can relate to Kinesthetic and Interpersonal intelligence the best. I am a very hands-on learner. I love making things and learning how it’s made. I also do best learning through group activities and seminars. When I was in class and was offered a group assignment, I jumped at the chance.

Theories Of Howard Gardner

...“I wonder why my best friend is more intelligent than I?” Some often wonder why others are smarter than them. That is not the case, everyone is relatively different and “…there are many ways to be smart.” (Coon & Mitterer, 2015) Three of the theories used to describe the different levels of intelligence are Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences, Environmental intelligence, and Heredity Intelligence. First, according to Howard Gardner of Howard University, there are eight distinctly different kinds of intelligences which are Language (linguistic abilities), Logic and Math (numeric abilities), Visual and spatial (pictorial abilities), Music (musical abilities), Bodily-kinesthetic (physical abilities), Intrapersonal (having and underlying understanding of oneself), Interpersonal (understanding of other people), and Naturalist (ability to understand the natural environment). These intelligences are the different mental “languages” that people use for thinking (Coon & Mitterer, 2015, p. 338) . The drawbacks of this theory are no researches or assessments done to prove this theory. This theory is also contradictory....

There are two main characters in this movie, Chris Gardner (Will Smith) and Christopher (Jaden Smith). Since Christopher is portrayed as a five year old boy, his character does not give any huge contribution towards the development of the movie. Whereas, Chris Gardner is depicted as a real portrait of American man who really believes in the myth of material success and it is reflected through his way of thinking, attitude, and his action along the movie. Almost all parts of this movie describe about Chris Gardner’s struggle in pursuing his real and true happiness. “the Pursuit of Happyness”

...life story of Chris Gardner, who struggled with homelessness while raising his toddler son. Chris is a single father since her wife no longer able to cope. His wife could not handle under the constant strain of financial pressure, so, she decided to leave and went to work in a restaurant in New York. He continues tenaciously to pursue his life and his son using every sales skill he knows. His top priority was to be a good father to his son, Christopher. Finally, he rose from being homeless to become a stock market tycoon and eventually as everyone knows he now is a multi-millionaire. From this inspirational movie, I need to choose any four scenes and do analysis based on the six theories, which are social morality, personality virtues, utilitarianism, egoism, the principle of duty and the principle of existentialism. The first scene I chose is when Chris plays basketball with his son. His son says he really likes to play basketball, and wanted to become a famous basketball star. Then, he said to his son, “Don’t ever let somebody tell you, you can’t do something, not even me.” Scene closes. This dialogue from the scene makes people feel a father’s love, and it is the point impressive people. Based on his dialogue, it is clearly shown that he wants and teaches his son to practice the theory of egoism. It means that, Christopher must take consideration of his self-interest the most in making decision and doing something. Eventually, Chris forgot the theories of personality virtues...

When they’d slid open the rain shutters, it had flown up before their eyes from a lower branch of the pine, but it seemed to have come back. During breakfast, there was the sound of whirring wings. “That bird’s a nuisance.” The younger brother started to get to his feet. “It’s all right. It’s all right.” The grandmother stopped him. “It’s looking for its child. Apparently the chick fell out of the nest yesterday. It was flying around until late in the evening. Doesn’t she know where it is? But what a good mother. This morning she came right back to look.” “Grandmother understands well,” Yoshiko said. Her grandmother’s eyes were bad. Aside from a bout with nephritis about ten years ago, she had never been ill in her life. But, because of her cataracts, which she’d had since girlhood, she could only see dimly out of her left eye. One had to hand her the rice bowl and the chopsticks. Although she could grope her way around the familiar interior of the house, she could not go into the garden by herself. Sometimes, standing or sitting in front of the sliding-glass door, she would spread out her hands, fanning out her fingers against the sunlight that came through the glass, and gaze out. She was concentrating all...

Rennaissance

...q) Define Metaphysical poetry answer) Metaphysical poetry is a form of poetry that has its roots in the 17th century England. The term Metaphysical poets was coined by the 18th century poet Samuel Johnson to describe a loose group of English poets of the 17th century, who were not affiliated with each other in any way. These poets were generally interested in metaphysical issues and even though they never read or saw each others works but all of them had a common method of examining these issues, hence a common ground in regards to the theme or topic of their work . In simple terms, the term Metaphysics is comprised of two words: meta and physics, Meta means beyond and physical means physical nature. Thus, Metaphysical poetry means poetry that goes beyond the physical world of the senses and explores the spiritual world. Poetry which deals with correlation between the real world and the after-world, concrete and abstract, soul and being, as well as reality and perception using philosophical methodology is called Metaphysical Poetry." The work of metaphysical poets was characterized by wit and the innovative use of metaphors, known as Metaphysical Conceits (elaborate and far fetched comparisons of two dissimailar things which have very little in common) and by speculation about topics such as love, life, god, religion and afterlife. The use of conceit in this form of poetry was made to develop a comparison which is exceedingly unlikely but is nonetheless intellectually...

John Donne as a Metaphysical Poet

...Answer : Metaphysical poetry, in an etymological sense, is poetry on subjects which exist beyond the physical world. In other words, it is a type of poetry dealing with abstract or philosophical subjects such as love, religion, God, beauty, faith and so on. But in reality the poetry which comprises the ideas or aspects that – physical love leading to spiritual union or religious, argumentative presentation of emotion, terseness of expression, use of conceit and wit in profusion, skillful use of colloquial language instead of Elizabethan lucid diction with the abrupt opening can be considered to be metaphysical. Originally the term ‘ Metaphysical Poetry ’ was coined by John Dryden and later popularised by Samuel Johnson and the features of the school which unite the various authors are quite numerous. As well as making widespread use of conceit, paradox and punning, the metaphysical poets drew their imagery from all sources of knowledge particularly from science, theology, geography and philosophy. However, John Donne is the founder of the school of metaphysical poetry and the other practitioners of the type of poetry are Crashaw, Cowley, Denham, Davenant, Herbert, Marvell , Vaughan and Waller . The most striking quality of Donne’s poetry is the use of metaphysical conceit which is a figure of speech in which two far fetched objects or images of very different nature are compared. It surprises its readers by its ingenious discovery and delights them by...

Project & Task Management: the Pursuit of Happyness

...Project & Task Management: The Pursuit of Happyness Project & Task Management: “The Pursuit of Happyness” “The Pursuit of Happyness” is a movie about an African American man, Christopher Gardner, and his journey to reach “happyness” in his life. Christopher was abandoned by his father as an infant and met his father for the first time when he was 28 years old. Because of this Chris vows to be nothing like his father when he has a child of his own. Chris and his son Christopher Jr. are homeless. He takes on a competitive unpaid internship as a stockbroker in hopes to be hired on as a full time employee, all while caring for his son. This movie is a story of determination and hope while being faced with disappointment and provocation. There are so many lessons that can be taken from Christopher Gardner and of those I’ve decided to use a clip from “The Pursuit of Happyness” and teach a lesson on project & task management. The scene that I used to teach my lesson is called: Cold Calling. This is where Chris Gardner demonstrates how to reduce wasteful activities in the office to make a bigger impact in his productivity. Out of necessity to care for his son, Chris has a shorter day and does what he can to make the most of the resources he has. In the clip as Chris is calling potential clients he doesn’t hang up the phone in between calls to save precious time. He also eliminates time wasted using the restroom by not consuming water during the day as well as time...

Communication / Collaboration

...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper In order for a team to communicate and collaborate effectively it is important to know the learning styles and personality spectrum of the individuals. Howard Gardner, a Harvard University professor, came up with his theory of Multiple Intelligences. Gardner believes that everyone possesses at least eight intelligences they are the Verbal-Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Visual-Spatial, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Musical and Naturalistic (Carter, Bishop & Kravits, 2007). Along with the eight intelligences there are also four personality types; Thinker, Organizer, Giver and Adventurer these help identify the interactions that are most and least comfortable for individuals (Carter, Bishop & Kravits, 2007). Interpersonal intelligences use feelings and sensitivity in their communication with others. The ability to relate to others and work within a team is a strength possessed by this learner. Talking to others to work out solutions and remaining open minded allows for the Interpersonal to be an effective leader in a group. Intrapersonal Intelligences have self-awareness and independence along with the ability to understand their own behavior and feelings (Carter, Bishop & Kravits, 2007). Because of their independence the Intrapersonal would be an effective researcher and journal keeper for the group. Electronic communication would be effective with the Intrapersonal. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligences are...

Theory of Multiple Intelligence

...Theory of Multiple IntelliGENCE PSY/300 April 9, 2012 Instructor: Angelique Grady In this paper, I will discuss the theory of multiple intelligences, developed by Howard Gardner. There are eight intelligences that Howard Gardener indentified, but I will be discussing three of them that would have an impact on my own personal success. Linguistic intelligence which refers to verbal intelligence, iInterpersonal intelligence is being able to appreciate and identify what others require, and iIntrapersonal intelligence refers to one’s self and their abilities (Smith, 2002, 2008). “Intelligence is multifaceted; that is, aspects of it can be expressed in many domains.” (Kowalski & Westen, 2011, p. 271) “We can thus define intelligence as the application of cognitive skills and knowledge to learn, solve problems, and obtain ends that are valued by an individual or cCulture” (see Gardner, 1983, p. ?). “It is also to some extent culturally shaped and culturally defined, since cultural practices support and recognize intellectual qualities that are useful in the social and ecological context.” (Kowalski & Westen, 2011, p.274). Gardner did not believe that there was only one inventory for intelligence. He used many criteria to come up with these eight intelligences. These criteria dealt with damage to the brain, and how a portion of the brain could be affected, but the other portion still worked fine. Another criteria area...
