Reading Comprehension 4. Understanding Technology 9. Math 5. Communication 10. Proper Etiquette How can you top five ranking skills help you in the classroom environment? * * My first top ranking skill that will help me in the classroom environment is time management. This to me is the most important top ranking skills, because time management is everything. What I mean is that when you are in a classroom environment you have to management your time properly, such like a daily routine so you know that, everyday at that time you are obligated to that time so that you know that part of your day is scheduled for your distance learning. Even though you had a hectic schedule and been busy all day, you know that you manage your time everyday around the same time so you don’t forget. A second top ranking skill is setting priorities, you have to know which of your priorities is first and that they are well taking care of before you can go head and continue with your day. You cannot plan to be in a classroom environment and have a whole bunch of priorities that needs to be taking care of. Priorities are very much important, such as making sure all your errands are done, an important doctor appointment, or taking your child to a very important school event. Priorities...

They are broken out in major and specialized articles. The major database can be used for broad searches and the specialized database can be used for specific searches. Upholding Academic Honesty According to www.dictionary.com (2009), plagiarism is the use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work. This includes self-plagiarism. It is school policy that all works be the student’s own original thoughts unless clearly cited. The University Library has tutorials on how to cite correctly in academic works. Plagiarism is a serious offence that carries serious consequences; for example, failure, suspension, or expulsion. ...teachers are expecting that this pupil can already comprehend on what he/she is reading, whether in English or in Filipino. The researcher had found out based on the final rating of Grade Three pupils in his school that almost 75% are low performing pupils. Despite of several programs by the Department of Education, the problem on reading comprehension still prevails. When a pupil has a reading comprehension difficulty, it could be observed that all the subjects that he/she is studying are being affected. Thus, the researcher decided to find out if reading comprehension has a significant relationship to the academic performance of Grade Three pupils. LITERATURE RELATED TO THE STUDY: As cited by Wilson and Cleland in their Theory of Diagnosis, “the first step in dealing reading difficulties is the identification of the difficulty. That classroom diagnosis can take place before, during and after instruction was clearly expressed by Wilson and Cleland. It is impossible to give any recommendation when one does not know what to remediate. Diagnosis may begin with a simple observation and possibly as survey test which will be followed by a hypothetical remedy to the disability.” To diagnose the difficulty in reading, there are several factors that affect the reader in the reading comprehension of the reader to be taken into consideration, as cited by Katherine Maria in her book “Reading Comprehension: Instruction, Issues and Strategies (1990), these are: 1. Decoding Ability ...

...AED/202 Reading and Writing Development Sandy Mackey June 28, 2013 Kristen Weiss Reading and Writing Development As a future educator I believe that reading and writing is the utmost import thing in a child’s education. Without these two skills a child will not be able to succeed in school. For my essay, I chose two age groups that I want to teach; middle childhood, ages six through ten, and early adolescence, ages ten through 14. The reason I chose these two developmental ages is because I believe that children enjoy learning; they are like sponges, always trying to absorb as much as possible. The reading development in middle childhood children and early adolescent childhood children seem somewhat different. Middle childhood children start by identifying letters and matching letters with individual sounds, knowing what a word is, and interpreting spaces and punctuation are the earliest building blocks for reading skills (www.education.com). Early adolescent childhood children, usually do not have an issue with reading; they can identify vocabulary words in a book and sound out the words. Children of this stage usually enjoy reading. Writing skills for both middle and early adolescent children develop in the same way as their reading skills. Middle childhood children are more focused on what they are writing, their spelling, spacing, punctuation, and coherence has improved (www.education.com). As for the early adolescent children...

Also social devices such as cell phones P.D.A.’s and the internet can be very distracting. I find the back room of my house is the best place to study. * How might you apply each of the four steps in the system of textbook reading to reading text on your computer? Previewing text is a great way to get your brain ready for what it is about to learn. By scanning the chapter first you can find useful information like, how long is the chapter, topics, and if there is any questions at the end of the chapter. ...Anderson, S. A., & Fuller, G. B. (2010). Effect of music on reading comprehension of junior high school students. School Psychology Quarterly, 25(3), 178-187. doi:10.1037/a0021213 Anderson and Fuller test the idea that listening to music while studying takes away from the reading performance of adolescents. They assert that there is a difference in reading comprehension scores obtained in a music free environment as opposed to an environment with lyrical music playing in the background. Also, that a gender difference exists between the 2 environments. This was tested by administering the reading comprehension subtest of the GMRT-4 to 334 7th and 8th graders. They were split into 4 groups and given the test over 2 days with a day in between. It was administered in a typical study hall setting and a non-typical study hall setting with lyrical music playing in the background. For all 4 groups the music environment score was lower than the music-free environment score. There was also a gender difference in scores for the two environments. Girls had a greater decline in the music environment than males. One of the strengths of this article is that they administered the test over 2 days with a mean of 1 day in between. The two study sessions were held a day apart to account for differences in students’ mood, anxiety level, or response to environment. Also, the form given in the music free environment and music environment varied across the four groups as well which day they...
