The Pros And Cons Of Gentrification

...Gentrification is a process of renovation and revival of deteriorated urban neighbourhoods which results from an influx of more affluent residents, a related increase in rents and property values, changes in the districts character and culture. Gentrification is generally seen by some as a negative and controversial topic, suggesting the displacement of low- income families and small businesses. Others see it as an increase in an area’s economy and a revitalisation of the built environment. In this essay I will be addressing whether gentrification does help or hinder low income, urban communities using references from contemporary examples such as New York City and London, I will outline both positive and negative impacts of gentrification...

Pros And Cons Of Gentrification

...today, gentrification is becoming a solution or problem to many cities and neighborhoods that are changing. Many people might not know what gentrification is or even have heard of it before, but it is happening in their neighborhoods right in front of their eyes. Gentrification is the process where an influx of middle-class and upper-class people cause a revitalization and rebuilding of deteriorating areas because of the money they bring to the local economy. This often results in the displacement of impoverished residents in the area. This is happening in many countries and in many populated cities in America like San Francisco, Boston, and Philadelphia. Some people’s opinions on gentrification is that it is beneficial, while others view gentrification harmful. While both sides feel that they are correct, people that favor gentrification seek the benefits that it can produce while the people against gentrification worry about losing their neighborhood and eventually being forced to move out. When viewing both sides of the argument, it is clear that the benefits of gentrification...

...[pic] Dear Educator, Thank you for your interest in the change, growth and empowerment of Native Youth Education. This curriculum was developed specifically for educators in the state of Maine’s public high schools who wish to use this guide as a tool to improve Native Youth Education. NEG (Native Education Guide) provides lesson ideas and examples that support current lesson structures as well as implementing a culturally appropriate material for the Native Student. While many Native Education curriculums exist, NEG is designed to adapt to the block scheduling of the Public High School in Maine. This curriculum recognizes the appropriate education material needed for its intended audience, which focuses on the tribes of Maine whose youth attend Public High School. NEG aims to provide its learners with a set of educational experiences that encourages empowerment and positive Native identity through community education. Native Education is the study of the human, tribal, environmental, historical and social experience of the Natives of Maine. Native Education is very complex with a lot of variables such as time, space, place and the students; NEG therefore focuses on a number of messages: - Community Building - Seventh Generation Sustainability, Economics and Ecology - School Education Policies and Institutions (Boarding Schools to Current Education Models) - Colonization and the “White Expansion” - Cultural Appropriation - Native Ritual, Ceremonies...

The Impact of International Mega-Sporting Events Oh Host Cities

...Impact of mega-sporting events 1 The impact of international mega-sporting events oh host cities Regina Glazman 20151794 ARW2 for law students KIMEP regina.glazman@kimep.kz Impact of mega-sporting events 2 Abstract While a mega-sport event is scheduled at least once every year somewhere in the world, these events are rare occurrences for the host cities and countries. The benefits of such events seem lucrative; the very fact that many countries bid to host these events suggests that the benefits – be they tangible or intangible – more often than not outweigh the costs. However, some experts claim that it is almost impossible to achieve goal and provide a successful result. Therefore, the research question is : Do cities benefit from international mega-sporting events or it is just "showing-off"? When a city or nation is awarded the privilege of hosting a mega event, they are almost always required to enhance or develop their infrastructure. The developments which are created from these events are known as legacies. However, these legacies have a great risk to become "white elephants" ( Barclay, 2009,p.3). Thereupon, my research project was directed to understand do facilities in Almaty which were built for 2011 Asian Winter Games are used today and provide help for national athletes and the city. Result showed they do, but not without problems. However, legacies can come in many forms such as economic, tourism or sporting. Consequently, summarizing everything...

We have been a home based business now for over 3 years and are finally ready to take our business to the road. We have over 100 hundred steady clients and growing quickly. We have researched multiple companies in our area and have decided to go with your company due to the amount of positive reviews you received in the last 2 years. Due to the increase in volume in our business we will need a 600- 800sq foot loft that has the capability to house the equipment needed to run our bakery successfully. We have been saving the last two years for this move and managed to obtain a total of 110,000 dollars to put toward our business. We have also secured a loan through our bank that should cover most of the initial cost to get our business running for our first year as Scottie’s Bake Shop. I’ve done some research on the building requirements for our bakery and it seems that we will need a factory ventilation system in our work area. We will need a building...

Study Habits

.... Organization Theory Challenges and Perspectives John McAuley, Joanne Duberley and Phil Johnson . This book is, to my knowledge, the most comprehensive and reliable guide to organisational theory currently available. What is needed is a text that will give a good idea of the breadth and complexity of this important subject, and this is precisely what McAuley, Duberley and Johnson have provided. They have done some sterling service in bringing together the very diverse strands of work that today qualify as constituting the subject of organisational theory. Whilst their writing is accessible and engaging, their approach is scholarly and serious. It is so easy for students (and indeed others who should know better) to trivialize this very problematic and challenging subject. This is not the case with the present book. This is a book that deserves to achieve a wide readership. Professor Stephen Ackroyd, Lancaster University, UK This new textbook usefully situates organization theory within the scholarly debates on modernism and postmodernism, and provides an advanced introduction to the heterogeneous study of organizations, including chapters on phenomenology, critical theory and psychoanalysis. Like all good textbooks, the book is accessible, well researched and readers are encouraged to view chapters as a starting point for getting to grips with the field of organization theory. Dr Martin Brigham, Lancaster University, UK McAuley et al. provide a highly readable account...
