Case Study: Talking in Type
Part One: Stan and Dave
Dave: Dave is the Sensing individual, with that being his personality type he is more hands on and detail oriented, and he focuses more on the detail of the project. Dave likes to work steadily with a realistic timeline for when the goal should be accomplished. He would like to be careful about the facts and make sure that nothing important is skipped over.
Stan: Stan is the intuitive type. He likes to follow his inspirations and hunches; He may get facts about wrong and jump to conclusions to fast. He likes to work in busts of energy.
In many situations you are going to run into situations where you have to work in situations that you are uncomfortable with. In Stan’s case he was more used to getting everything done as fast as he can whereas Dave prefers going step by step, and taking his time making sure that everything is perfect. Stan does not want to involve Dave in a project that might generate a lot of profit because he believed that he lacked intelligence.
The main problem that the two of them are going to face is the deadline for when to get the project in. Stan being the intuitive would want to get it in sooner than later because he jumps to conclusions faster the Dave; but Dave knows that if they do that they may be missing certain important aspects that are needed to make this generate even more profit.
If Stan would involve Dave, he would have to adjust and come together to compare their own beliefs and ideals. Stan does not like how Dave always stops him to talk to him about all of the details but Dave just wants to know how everything is going. In order to solve this problem they could set guidelines from the very beginning. Set time intervals where Dave can check in with Stan and see how it is going. Every week they should have a specific time that they can go over the progress, setting the same time every week. Stan does not have to go over every single detail with Dace but it will give Dave the ability to know how everything is coming along.
Part Two: Quinton and Karen
Karen: Karen was the sensing and thinking individual; with those being her personality type she is more hands on and detail oriented, and she focuses more on the detail of the project. Karen likes to work steadily with a realistic timeline for when the goal should be accomplished. She would like to be careful about the facts and make sure that nothing important is skipped over. Also with being a thinker she responds more to people’s ideas then to their feelings. She anticipates or predicts logical outcomes of the choices that she will make and she also has a talent for analyzing a problem or situation.
Quinton: Quinton is Karen’s boss and his personality is the opposite of hers. He is as Intuitive and a feeler. He likes to follow his inspirations and hunches; He may get facts wrong and jump to conclusions to fast. He likes to work in busts of energy. Quinton does not like taking time for precision. Also, with him being a feeler instead of an intuitive, he likes harmony in t work place, and also responds to peoples values as much as to their thoughts. Quinton does not like to tell people unpleasant things, or things that may upset them. He is more interested in the person then the work performed and is also sympathetic. Karen was enthusiastic about informing her boss on the events that lead to a successful project but Quinton thinks that she is dragging on and telling her things that he doesn’t need to know. Karen with the type of personality that she has needs to build up an idea piece by piece to get a better understanding of how to deal with it. Karen did not know what her boss was talking about when he was describing the road ahead. There is obviously a communication issue between the two of them which is caused by their two personality types because they are opposite of one another. But to solve this problem they both need to work in the middle. In order to give Karen a better understanding of the tasks at hand, he needs to go step by step so she can build up her understanding, and with him being a feeling type he should be able to understand that and give her a little bit more time. But also setting certain time intervals where they can meet and discuss the progress might be helpful just so she is not telling him every little detail that is irrelevant to the issues and project at hand. They both need to realize that their personality types, though opposing of one another, are very helpful to put together on a project. Quinton needs Karen to help organize, find flaws, and reform what needs reforming to the project.
