...The golden ratio is a mathematical ratio of 1 to about 1.618. The golden ratio is found naturally in the world and in nature, but we can create if we try. Most artists that use the golden ratio either use it for the purpose of showing their sheer ability in mathematics to use it correctly and efficiently in their painting, sculptures, and other works of art, or for the mere fact that mankind as a whole has an, as of yet, unexplainable attractions to the golden ratio. Or in other words, the golden ratio makes things better looking or more appealing to the human eye. And because art is seen through the eye of the beholder, having the golden ratio throughout one’s work could be the difference between a piece of art and masterpiece. The first piece of artwork I want to talk about is the Last Supper by renowned painter Leonardo da Vinci. There are golden ration rectangles everywhere. You can see the rectangles on the entire length of the table where the disciples and Jesus are eating. You can also see the rectangles about the faces of said people, split on the disciples on the left, Jesus in the middle, and the disciples on the right. The feet of all the people eating are in their own rectangles as well, once again on the left, middle, and right respectively. Additionally, if you look at the background you can see the golden ratio on the back wall and the windows with an outside view. The next piece of artwork I would like to talk about is the most famous painting in the world the...

...Central Luzon State University College of Arts and Sciences Department of Psychology The Golden Ratio: Reference of Beauty Submitted to: Nixon Agaser Submitted by: Jam Shimei I. Gamboa Jeanne R. Dadufalza Eden Leigh Pagoso Micah A. Montes The Golden Ratio: Reference of Beauty Beauty has been defined as a combination of qualities that give pleasure to the senses or to the mind. It is a philosophical concept, the aspects of which are studied under the term aesthetics, derived from the Greek word for perception (aisthesis). Aesthetics, therefore, is the study of beauty and, to a lesser extent, it’s opposite the ugly. It involves both the understanding and evaluation of beauty, proportions and symmetry. The assessment of facial beauty is immersed in subjectivity and therefore leans towards the world of art. Facial proportions and facial balance, however, can be measured and therefore fit somewhere between art and science. Aesthetics itself is now essentially a science in the formation, although obviously with a very strong philosophical and artistic background (Naini, et al. 2008.) According to Jang (2014) it is becoming clear that there is a science to beauty. Extensive research has shown that we have similar ideas about what constitutes a beautiful face. When British researchers asked women to rate pictures of various men, their choices were identical. When a group including English, Chinese, and Indians were asked to choose a “good looking” face from a selection of racially...

...Running head: Golden Mean Golden Mean: Mathematical and Real-World Analysis Abstract The following document studies the importance of the mathematical Golden Mean and how it relates to real-world applications, and its importance in mathematics for solving problems. Team C first puts the Golden Mean to use in real-world application solving a problem, and follows up with a brief history of the Golden Mean, what it does, where it applies, and how it works. Researched findings on the Golden Mean have been collaborated and discussed in an attempt to fully understand its importance and function. The Golden Mean a=1 b=? Length =1 1b=1+ 61 Multiply by LCD (b) to remove fractions, and you get 1=b2+b b2+b-1=0 (Isolate zero by moving one to the other side of the equation) b=-b±b2-4ac2a Where ab2+bb+c=0 b=-1±(1)2-41(-1)2(10 b=-1+52 b=.618034 1+.6180341= 1.618034 a=1.618034. The Golden Ratio has been used throughout history. Discovered in 1200 AD, this equation can be found in art, architecture, nature, geometry, and the human body. “The Golden Ratio, also known as the divine proportion, Golden Mean, or golden section, is a number produced when taking the ratios of distances in simple geometric figures such as the pentagon, pentagram, decagon, and dodecahedron. The Golden Ratio also happens to be denoted using the symbol, or sometimes using the symbol ” (Golden Mean/Ratio, 2013, p. 1). “Leonardo Fibonacci discovered a simple mathematical sequence that...

...THE GOLDEN RATIO Enrico Freitag The golden ration can occur anywhere. The golden proportion is the ratio of the shorter length to the longer length which equals the ratio of the longer length to the sum of both lengths. The golden ratio is a term used to describe proportioning in a piece. In a work of art or architecture, if one maintained a ratio of small elements to larger elements that was the same as the ratio of larger elements to the whole, the end result was pleasing to the eye. The ratio for length to width of rectangles is 1.61803398874989484820. The numeric value is called “phi”. The Golden Ratio is also known as the golden rectangle. The Golden Rectangle has the property that when a square is removed a smaller rectangle of the same shape remains, a smaller square can be removed and so on, resulting in a spiral pattern. The Golden Rectangle is a unique and important shape in mathematics. The Golden Rectangle appears in nature, music, and is often used in art and ar chitecture. Something special about the golden rectangle is that the length to the width equals approximately 1.618… . The golden rectangle has been discovered and used since ancient times. Our human eye perceives the golden rectangle as a beautiful geometric form. The symbol for the Golden Ratio is the Greek letter Phi. The Fibonacci Series was discovered around 1200 A.D. Leonardo Fibonacci discovered the unusual properties of the numeric series, that’s how it was named. It is not proven that...

...The golden section proportion is seen in many different pieces of art whether it be in sculpting, painting, drawing, etc. It is a very common practice among many artists because it makes things more appealing to the eye. It’s also known as the rule of thirds because in using the golden section proportion artists tend to try to get the ratio of an object they are drawing to be in the proportion of 618:382. Not quite an even one third, but close enough to where it is referred to as such. It is also referred to as divine proportioning because that ratio is found many times throughout the body. An example of that would be the wrist to the fingertips in proportion to the entire elbow to the fingertips. The tapestry on the wall in this painting is an example of divine proportioning. The middle of the painting also follows the Golden Section, with two thirds visible and one third not. Another example is the man pouring wine from the jug is positioned in a way that allows the viewer to see 2/3rds of the people in the background. The doorway full of people would be another example, it seems to fill up a certain portion of the picture without detracting from the main subject of the painting. In this painting alone there are many different ways that we can see how the rule of thirds is implemented into artwork, and we can see it in almost all artwork...

Situational: Humor arising out of quotidian situations; it is the basis of sitcoms, or situation comedies. Situational comedies employ elements of farce, screwball, slapstick, and other types of humor. FRIENDS VS GOLDEN GIRLS The Golden Girls was one of the first sit-com shows that I remember watching with my grandmother who was a huge fan. As a result, I’ve always had a great fondness for the show. I’ve hummed its theme song and the still remarkable fact that it was a hit starring three women in their 60s. In the meantime, I’ve seen every episode of Friends and to this day would rather watch its re-reruns than almost anything else on TV. Friends may be hugely popular and beloved by mainly girls but that does not make it bad (it just makes it an easy target). Who would not laugh when they watch Monica dance with a turkey on her head? I assumed that Friends would win easily. But after re-watching The Golden Girls again now that I’m older, the competition has tightened up. Since Friends ended its ten-season run in 2004, audiences have been treated to/tortured by one clone after another. But before we lived in a world where there were dozens of shows just like Friends, there was Friends, which was a show sort of like...

...Family Television Review- Golden Girls One of my favorite memories growing up was watching the Golden Girls with Mother every Saturday night with my mother. This show originally aired from 1985-1992 but can still be seen on Hallmark every week. The show is based on four middle aged women roommates Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia who are different in almost every way. Today as I watch the episodes the jokes that once went over my head now have taken on new meaning. When I was younger I did not realize how many controversial topics the show covered. Dorothy is a sarcastic high school substitute teacher. Her persona comes off as her intelligence makes her superior to the other women in the house because they do not have as much papered education as she. I do not believe if you have more education than someone else you should be mean to another. Rose, is the exact opposite of Dorothy. Rose was raised in a small farm town named St. Olaf, with not much education. She is always telling goofy stories about where she grew up, most of the time the women become irritated with her and treat her poorly. Blanche is open with her sexuality which the other girls did not approve of. You could tell by the way the women were always teasing her about which suitor she brought home and the “welcome matt at the foot of her bed”. Sophia is a first generation immigrant from Sicily. Even though Sophia could be crude at times she had a certain way of making others look at difficult situations...

...Why the Golden Age of Islam is Underrated The Golden Age of Islam is when Islam rose above other Empires, It is considered to be one of the most significant historical events. Many of those in power despise Muslims. Humans tend to be submissive and follow their superior’s opinions, thus they grow to have a distaste of Islam as a religion and disregard the significant breakthroughs the Islamic world has made. By many, the Golden Age of Islam is underrated without solid reasoning. Many breakthroughs in Mathematics, Medicine and Geography were made during the Golden Age. The essay will now discuss the most significant building of the Golden Age, The House of Wisdom (bayt al-hikmah). Possibly the most academically rich library in the entire world. It was a structure that was erected at the time of the Golden Age. It was open to all scholars of different religions and/or languages meaning that Islam was open to different religion’s opinions of its own. It was a meeting point where various scholars gathered up their known knowledge and translated it to Arabic. They also built on their known knowledge....

The assertions that were relevant to Paragon’s construction projects are: existence and occurrence, completeness, valuation or allocation, and presentation and disclosure. Existence and occurrence: should have been used to test the revenue and gross profit on its construction projects. By testing to see if the assertion is appropriate to make sure that all revenue and gross profit exist would have brought the attention to the $4 million of un-invoiced construction costs that materialized at the end of fiscal 1997. This assertion test also would have revealed that the earned value method in practice was allowing Paragon to book much larger amounts of revenue and gross profit on its construction projects than it would have under the cost-to-cost method. Completeness: the SEC said that Sullivan and his subordinates should have rigorously tested Paragon’s large amounts of unbilled revenues at the end of 1997. A significant amount of unbilled revenue that is reported as complete should be tested to determine the reason no billing has been posted for the work that was done. It also should be determined the reason income is being recognized for jobs that have not been identified as works in progress to determine the exact completion date of the project. By testing this assertion it would have been discovered that $4 million of work was fictitious. Valuation or allocation: Paragon overstated its revenue and profits by using the...

...Tate Fleming The Golden Advice Essay #4 617 The Golden Advice A typical message for all high school students would be, “You better start getting ready for college!” The fact of the matter is, not all high school students know how to get ready for college. Many people get to where they think they`ve always wanted to go, but ended up not liking where they are when it`s too late. College is somewhere you`re going to be spending the next four years of your life, or maybe more, so you want to make sure you`ve put legitimate thought into where you want to go. Every college student has different advice for high school students. Mine to you is start getting a study habit, think about the location of where you want to go to school, and then think about how much it`s going to cost for you to go to the school you`re interested in. For starters, get into a good study habit. Most high schools don`t require near as much studying than what is required for college. Simply put, college is a totally different lifestyle. You`re on your own and you don’t have anyone telling you to study, so you have to make sure you stay on top of everything. Classes are more difficult, test are more difficult, homework is more difficult, the list goes on. Most students get to college and get completely overwhelmed with how much they actually have to study. If you get into a good study habit now, you`ll be much better off and won`t be overwhelmed. That would be my first and probably most important...

...simple rule. This simple rule can be found throughout history and in virtually every culture. We know it in Western civilization as the “Golden Rule” or ethic of reciprocity. It simply means treat others as you would like to be treated. Be kind and help others just because it makes your soul smile. This golden rule of ethics only demands that we see beyond ourselves and are willing to treat others better then they treat us at times. It is argued that following in this belief leaves you open to being taken advantage of. Some people will see you as an easy target, weak, naïve even. Since we live in a world where “only the strong survive” and egos are of then more important than morality, ethics are easily thrown out the window. To this argument I bring you to the core value or root of the Golden Rule. It is the willingness to treat others better than they treat you and the knowing that you just might be taken advantage of every now and then, and being okay with it that is important. Our Golden Rule, or variations of it can be found in Jewish literature, Islamic Writ, the Hindu Holy Books, Taoism, Buddhist Udana-Varga, Confucianism, African Traditional religions, and in the writings of many well-known philosophers. The Holy Bible makes many references to this law of ethics. It is in Matthew 7:12 of the English Standard Version that the Golden Rule is spoken by Jesus as part of the Sermon on the Mount, “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them: for this...
