It lies along a Municipal Road, immediately connected to the Manila-Cagayan Valley national road where several land transportation companies ply their route. A BRIEF HISTORY The Bulacan Agricultural State College started as a Community Agricultural School in Barrio Bintog, Plaridel, Bulacan in 1952. It operated with a budget of P 14,000.00 under the Division of Schools of the Province. About 100 students were enrolled then. The succeeding year, since the students were not only residents of the municipality of Plaridel, it was decided that the school be renamed Bulacan Provincial High School. In 1955, by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 163,200 hectares of land was allocated for the school, located at Barangay Pinaod, San Ildefonso, Bulacan. The student population increased to 200, and additional school buildings were constructed. There is the 500-acre main campus that nestles in a beautiful residential neighborhood along the Cumberland River, and the downtown Avon Williams campus that sits near the center of Nashville’s business and government district. There are many students that come from all across the country. These students bring many different cultures that make Tennessee State what it is today. In 1909, the Tennessee State General Assembly created three normal schools, including the Agricultural and Industrial Normal School, which would grow to become TSU. The first 247 students began their academic careers on June 19, 1912, and William Jasper Hale served as head of the school. Students, faculty, and staff worked together as a family to keep the institution operating, whether the activity demanded clearing rocks, harvesting crops, or carrying chairs from class to class. The school gained the capacity to grant bachelor’s degrees in 1922, reflecting its new status as a four-year teachers’ college. By 1924, the college became known as the Agricultural and Industrial State Normal College and the first degrees were awarded. In 1927, “Normal” was dropped from the name. College students have a history of working, independent of the type of institution they attend, their age or family responsibilities, or even their family income.1 College professors and administrators generally recommend that students work 10 to 15 hours per week on campus.2 While 10 to 15 hours per week is considered optimal for college students, many of them work longer hours and not necessarily on campus.
