...Running Head: COMMUNICATION AND PERSONALITY IN NEGOTIATIONS Negotiations are part of our everyday lives whether we know it or not. A great example is a teenager trying to convince the parents to let him/her use the family car. In that scenario the teenager will have to make great arguments on why that privilege should be granted and in turn the parents might reply with their concerns. In the following paper I will describe one of my negotiations that resulted in the purchase of a used car. The roles of communication and personality in the negotiation will also be analyzed and how they contributed or detracted from the negotiation. COMMUNICATION AND NEGOTIATIONS Prior to diving into my negotiation scenario I would like to stress the importance and the role of communication in a negotiation. “Effective Communication is directly proportional to an effective negotiation (Management Study Guide, 2012).” A negotiation is basically a discussion between two parties in an effort to reach an option or alternative that is feasible for both sides. In turn, an effective discussion is a direct yield of communication. Communication is imperative so that the other person will understand and grasp your thoughts and ideas and be able to make sense of your arguments. It is important to transfer one’s thoughts into a speech by choosing appropriate and selective words that are relevant to the subject being discussed and that will of course exclude fowl words at all...

Students have to create a structure that works for them. Time management is a skill that can be learned or improved through work with the Macalester Academic Excellence (MAX) Center (phone number is 696-6121). 7. ...Harvard referencing: a guide for SoM students Introduction Academic work demands that you consider the work of other writers and researchers. To use their work without acknowledgement is to steal the ideas of other people and is called plagiarism. You should acknowledge the sources which have informed your work by citing them in the text of your work, and referencing them at the end of your essay, project report, dissertation or thesis. Otherwise, you run the risk of being accused of academic misconduct. There are several widely used methods for writing references. The School of Management uses the Harvard system. If you do not use this method properly you will lose marks. What sources of information should I be reading? Before you use any document, you should consider the quality of the information it provides. Articles published in refereed academic journals are the most authoritative, because they have been through a thorough checking process known as peer review. Books may not have been checked so rigorously by their publishers. Articles in newspapers and trade magazines are not checked as carefully as those in refereed academic journals so may not be as reliable. And information found on the Internet needs to be treated with caution, as anyone can put material there, accurate or otherwise! How do I put a citation in my text? The cause of this differential can be due to intellective, non-intellective factors or both. From studies investigating student performance and related problems it has been determined that academic success is dependent on many factors such as; grades and achievements, personality and expectations, and academic environments. This work uses data mining techniques to investigate the effect of socio-economic or family background on the performance of students using the data from one of the Nigerian tertiary institutions as case study. The analysis was carried out using Decision Tree algorithms. The data comprised of two hundred forty (240) records of students. The academic performance of students was measured by the students’ first year cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Various Decision Tree algorithms were investigated and the algorithm which best models the data was used to generate rule sets which can be used to analyze the effect of the socio-economic background of students on their academic performance. The rules generated can serve as a guide to educational administrators in their planning activities. Keywords: Socio-Economic, Performance.
