...sophisticated strip clubs located in the same proximity. There are no other party places that could compare to Bourbon Street, because individuals can walk up and down the street with open alcohol beverages without being illegal. Many people on Bourbon typically are over intoxicated and grasp various types of cocktails in their hands. The most popular alcoholic beverage people have in their possession is in a green plastic flask labeled “Hand Grenade” in black bold letters connected to a grenade figure on the bottom. The grenade figure has a human resemblance, including a black pair of oval eyes and an open black-shaded mouth. There are a handful of bars on Bourbon that sell the Hand Grenades, but many customers say the Tropical Isle Bar is the best. Its eyes catching sign has a light-emitting diode with two green tree emblems on each side and “Tropical Isle” labeled in red. Inside the place is intriguing because some patrons’ clothes will glow in the dark. Five bartenders consistently mix drinks because of the immerse demand for Hand Grenades, which have an amazing smooth flavor of sweet melon. It does not taste strong at all, but there are one and a half shots each of Gin, Vodka, and Rum in it. The atmosphere of Bourbon Street is wild. People are having a good time despite the smell. The street is full of beer bottles and vomit covering the ground and walls. Police officers are on horseback patrolling up and down the street. Lacking clothing, strippers are outside trying...

The stricken expression that covers her entire face suggests she is defeated and resulting into her last option. Her desperate ambition to show that she has something worth fighting for. Robed in a yellow raincoat over a dark green long-sleeved sweater. Her dirty blonde hair under the hood of the raincoat getting soaked from the outpour of rain. As her dark green bulky satchel rests across her body illustrates that she plans on not going back to where she once came from. The girl lost in hopelessness tightly grasps her right hand around the body of a grenade. Her pointer finger steadily rests on top of the grenades lever allowing the viewer to automatically notice that the safety pin ring has already been pulled from the grenade. The safety pin ring dangles on her left pointer finger signifying the love of what she is fighting for is above her own precious life. With both of her hands out in front of her up in the air is her cry for mercy. The fact that the girl has already pulled the ring from its rightful...

...CHAPTER 6 URBAN OPERATIONS This chapter describes techniques, procedures and special considerations that are used by platoons and squads throughout the planning and execution of operations in a urban area. Section I. OFFENSE While operating in urban areas, the major offensive collective tasks at platoon and squad level are attacking and clearing buildings. This involves isolating the objective, suppressing the threat, advancing the assault element, assaulting the building, clearing the building, and consolidating and reorganizing the force. Regardless of the type of urban area or the structural characteristics, there are six interrelated requirements for attacking a defended building: • Isolation of the building or objective. • Supporting fires. • Tactical movement • Breaching. • Assaulting. • Reorganization. Proper application and integration of these requirements can reduce casualties and hasten accomplishment of the mission. The platoon leader, when developing the plan for an attack on an urban objective, must consider the type of building to be assaulted, the rules of engagement (ROE), and the nature of the surrounding urban area. These considerations will determine the method of execution. For example, medium-size towns have numerous open spaces, and larger cities have high-rise apartments and industrial and transportation areas that are separated by parking areas or parks. Increased fire support is required to suppress...

...Hunting It rose up inside of me, the sense of fear was undeniable, as if it were a coiled snake being taunted and ready to strike. The foul, acrid, bitter smell that clung to my nostrils made me gag. Sweat dripped down my back, as my body trembled and my heart beat furiously in my chest. Goosebumps rose, making the hair on my body stand on end. Fear gave way to revulsion as my eyes registered what was in front of me. Bile rose up in my throat. Taking a breath, I forced myself to tear my eyes away from the carnage that seemed to be swallowing me whole, trapping me in its embrace… As I stepped out of the dugout the smell of churned up earth, and excrement filled my nostrils. It smelled bitter, old, decayed and tainted, holding the stench of death along the trench lines. I breathed in, inhaling the cold crisp air of the Ypres making me shiver of what was to come. I could see the sun rising behind the thin veil of morning mist. Silhouettes of comrades’ breath hung in the air, and shadows of men running to and from positions, danced across the trench walls that were as jagged as steel tipped arrows, rising above the height of man like giants breaking the earth’s surface. Small patches of dew covered crevices on the East faces of no-man’s land, glinting in the sunlight like stars in the night sky. I could hear a stream flowing in the distance, water cascading over the rocks, teeming with wildlife, but this was not my place, this...

...Basic Combat Training Basic Combat Training, often referred to as just BCT, is the introduction Soldiers recieve as they enter the Army. It is often considered a life-changing experience, something that people remember, reflect on, and tell stories to their grand children about decades later. BCT is not easy...as we often say here, there is nothing basic about Basic Training. BCT takes 10 weeks to complete. Unlike schools which typically have between six and seven hours a day of teaching, the Army trains for about 12-14 hours a day, Monday through Saturday. We try to avoid too much sitting in a classroom...but it does happen: We also spend a little bit of time outside; getting some fresh and air and, when the opportunity presents itself, a little exercise: Traveling...by foot: Climbing ropes: And if you're good enough, graduating in front of your friends and Family! Week 0: Reception Soldiers complete administrative actions required to become part of the Army. Simple things such as medical examinations, setting up pay, and initial issue of equipment is completed. This process typically takes between two and three days but can take over a week in some cases. Weeks 1-3: Red Phase Welcome to BCT! Soldiers meet their Drill Sergeants and begin training. While often considered a difficult week for Soldiers due to the adjustments, it is actually pretty easy compared to later weeks. Most classroom-type training occurs in this period where Soldiers learn about: * Ballistics...

...“He would have caught a grenade for you. He would have threw his hand on a blade for you . He would have jump in front of a train for you. But, instead, He died on the cross for you.” I’m so glad to see this post on my Tumblr account and made this as my wall post on Facebook. These phrases are excerpt from the song “Grenade” by Bruno Mars. The first time I saw it’s music video, Bruno Mars was portraying a man carrying his piano while some people was making fun of him and he will do anything even risking his own life for the woman of his dreams even though she won’t do the same for him. I was actually getting the idea of just what like Jesus Christ did for the mankind. He carried the cross while the soldiers knelt down and pretended to worship Him. They made fun of Him and shouted “Hey, you king of the Jews!” Then they spit on Him. They took the stick from Him and beat Him on the head with it (Mat.27:29-30). He accepted all of these because God loves us and wants us to offer a wonderful plan for our lives and no one can ever do the same just like what He did for all of us. Not one of us could ever earn or deserve God’s love and forgiveness. He gives it free to anyone who will stop trusting in his own good works and will place all his faith in Jesus Christ to save him. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). You are special to God that He sent His son, Jesus...

...to a war memory in which he instinctively kills an enemy soldier (MS 7). O’Brien recounts a night when his platoon moves into an ambush site shortly after midnight. Around dawn O’Brien recalls the moment a young enemy soldier emerges out of the morning fog. Without thinking O’Brien pulls the pin on a grenade and throws without aim. Seeing the grenade, the enemy soldier drops his weapon and begins to run, with a puff of smoke the grenade explodes and the soldier falls to the ground. O’Brien continues, explaining the regret and uncertainty the act of killing the enemy soldier elicits and the way the soldier ambushes his mind for the rest of his life. O’Brien includes imagery,...

...For example, in one part of the book the men were traveling, and there was only one man who was allowed to use the grenade launcher. After a while of carrying a cumbersome bag of grenades, he got tired and so he flung them into the ditch on the side of the road and left them there. However, one of his comrades noticed and picked up the bag of grenades and carried them to camp with them, and when Gruening, the man who was supposed to carry the grenades went to bed, his friend Duquesne placed the grenades next to him so that when Gruening awoke they were there for him. Gruening could not fathom how or why the grenades kept appearing when he awoke up in the morning. Finally, Gruening got tired of this happening so he said to his fellow comrade nicknamed the Arab, “Arab, how do I look? Do I look crazy? Have I lost my nut? Twice last night I know I dropped these d***** grenades in the ditch, and every time I wake up, they’re right by my nose. Igod, I’m headin’ for a section eight” (64). Examples like this can be found throughout the book often times to lighten up the story during a grim intense chapter. The humor often mellowed out the intensity and grimness of the chapter The fact that World War II paratroopers are not often referenced...

...molecules in the atmosphere causes this friction. This rapid release of heat energy is enough to cause an explosion! Also a lot of the time these asteroids contain ice or frozen carbon dioxide. If this is rapidly heated up, it can boil and pressure can build internally and can cause an explosion from inside the asteroid. All of these factors can account for an asteroid exploding. Overall it is all down to the Principle of Conservation of Energy. The energy is converted from chemical energy into vast amounts of light and heat causing the rapid release of energy in the form of an explosion. Conceptual Physics Why if a stick of dynamite was detonated at the front of a packed lecture theatre, there may not be any deaths; while if a powerful grenade was detonated it would lead to many fatalities? When a stick of dynamite is detonated, it is basically the stored chemical energy within the dynamite being rapidly converted into light, sound and heat energy. This heat energy is in the form of a rapidly expanding hot gas....

...Michał Duch Vietcong - The Guerrilla Fighters The Vietnam War was extremely specific conflict. The Americans possessed enormous army, huge amounts of money to spare and latest technology inventions. Vietcong, on the other hand fought using underground tactics with an underground army without modern equipment and air support. Here comes up following issue, namely, why Americans had so many difficulties with defeating Vietcong? To begin with, Vietcong fought using specific strategy called “guerilla war” (it is a warfare based on military actions where small mobile forces prepare ambushes and fight using unexpected tactics). Vietnamese used different tricks to surprise and eliminate American troops and vehicles. They ambushed US patrols using booby traps and landmines, civilian towns were often full of skillfully planted bombs. Common practice used by Vietcong soldiers was mingling with peasants to confuse Americans. US soldiers had serious difficulties with identifying who was real enemy. Another commonly used Vietcong tactic was called “hanging onto the belts”. The aim of this method was to stay in short distance with Americans. As a result US soldiers could not call an artillery backup because there was a risk of killing ally units. Vietcong troops were significantly supplied by Russia and China. Both countries provided them with weapons and rockets. In order to transport equipment safely Vietnamese used The Ho Chi Minh...

...protagonists Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters to develop the theme of ‘the necessity of suffering’ as he writes these characters to undergo the feelings of pain and suffering. John Green uses the character of Hazel Grace to explore the theme ‘the necessity of suffering’ by writing Augustus Waters’ faith as destined to die. I admire Hazel because she shows tremendous strength and was able to handle it. Throughout the course of the novel, Hazel was constantly worried about dying first and not getting close to Augustus. She did not want to get close to Augustus because she made a connection between herself and a grenade. She believed that when she dies, she’ll be a grenade - injuring innocent others around her. However in actuality, Augustus was the grenade as he passed away first. I think that Green did this because Hazel was constantly worried about being a grenade, she did not comprehend the necessity of suffering. It was necessary for Augustus to suffer because he was able to go to a better place. Also, Green also uses the character of Augustus to further develop the theme. Green’s writing style when creating the character of Augustus shows that Gus does not suffer physical pain, more so emotional pain. Augustus says “without pain, we wouldn’t know joy” (Green, 177). This quote clearly shows that pain is necessary - according to Augustus, joy is only felt when there is pain. An example of this in the...
