How long can a healing process take The Skin: From growth to the Healing Process In this paper I am going to discuss many different topics related to our skin. When discussing the skin. a good place to start is the different layers of the skin. The skin has three different layers: the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue(Brannon 2007) . These three layers play a very important role in how our skin grows and how it heals after injury. The epidermis is the outer layer of skin. The thickness of the epidermis varies in different types of skin. It is the thinnest on the eyelids at . 05 mm and the thickest on the palms and soles at 1.5 mm(Brannon 2007). There are five different layers to the epidermis. The bottom layers, which are shaped like columns, divide and push already formed cells into higher layers of the epidermis(Brannon 2007). Once the cells reach the top layer, which is made up of dead cells, our body sheds the top layer (Brannon 2007). This process happens approximately every two weeks. The Dermis which can also vary in thickness, like...

...Vaccination Controversy Julie S. Bertram Excelsior College Author's note This paper was written for MLS 500: Graduate Research and Writing taught by Dr. Kyla Hammond Most healthcare professionals and leaders attribute vaccination as the single-most important reason for increasing the health of the human population during the past one hundred years. As a result, required immunizations are common in the U. S. and other developed countries. However, there is a segment of society who argue against vaccination due to worries that immunizing negatively impacts future health. More and more information is becoming available that presents allopathic vaccination in an ugly light. (Sharma, 2003) For the past century, vaccines for diptheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, polio, and now more recently, hepatitis B and varicella have programmed our immune systems to be powerful protectors of our health. Compulsory state immunization laws have increased the U.S. immunization rate to 77%, the highest ever. (Largent, 2012) Despite high immunization rates, there is an underlying progression of a movement of parents questioning whether the vaccines are contributing to health conditions such as autism. Contributing to the uncertainty are occasional anecdotal accounts of parents with children who experience adverse reactions. Fear causes many parents to entirely forego vaccines for their children. Regardless of mandatory school vaccine laws for school children, physicians can...

...added expenses not to mention the bad effects of these chemicals to health and environment. Dr. Alfredo R. Rabena, head of the Research and Development Office of the University of Northern Philippines in Vigan City, Ilocos, has discovered a solution. He found that the leaves of kakawate tree or Mexican Lilac (Glinicidia sepium) contains coumarins, an effective botanopesticide. To prepare the solution, chop the kakawate leaves and let these soak overnight to extract coumarins. Using a strainer, separate the leaves from the solution. Spray the solution to the ricefields. The best time to apply it is from eight o’ clock to nine o’clock in the morning and from five o’clock to six o’clock in the afternoon as worms and pests are coming out from the leaves at these times. So the solution would be more effective to use. If applied early, it wouldn’t be that effective as pests are still hibernating. And if used when the sun’s heat is too hot, it wouldn’t be that effective also as pest would hide. Since kakawate is a legume, says Rabena, its leaves are rich in nitrogen, an important soil nutrient. Hence, the discarded leaves can be applied to the field as an organic fertilizer. He also recommends fanners to put several leafy branches of kakawate tree in between rice plants two days after planting to prevent pests from attacking the crop. To prove this research finding, Rabena and Flora Cely Rodilias did a demonstration in Naglaoa-an, Sto. Domingo, Ilocus Sur as well as in Vigan City and...

...Skin Conditions Student’s Name Institution of Learning Introduction The society requires attaining, maintaining, and recovering from disease, ailments accidents. It calls for specialized care from a trained professional. In most of the cases, care givers at home may lack this expertise. It requires people who are trained and specialized, and who understand the medical aspect of the patients’ condition. The best suited group of people that can deal appropriately with these problems are nurses. Nursing is a health care profession and hence, their services are oriented to this direction. In their duty, they give care to all members of societies; both individual and families (Braverman, 1998). Nursing care is understood as being particularly crucial during patients’ recovery from serious illness or injury. Classically, it was thought that people requiring these services were probably people who were bed ridden. The objective of health services delivery is not only to care for bed ridden people but also anybody else that have a condition that is reducing their quality of life. It is known that some diseases significantly reduce the quality of life. Today, the aim of healthcare is to assist any person with any disease, ailment, or any form of suffering to recover and have a joyous and creative life. ...BLOOMING PROSPECTS OF FUNCTIONAL FOODS Ashish Mishra1, T.R. Genitha2 1. B. Tech. Food Tech Student, 2. Assistant Professor, Dept. of Food Process Engg, Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences, Allahabad 211007 Corresponding author: genithaimmanuel@yahoo.co.in Introduction The tenet "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food," espoused by Hippocrates nearly 2,500 years ago, is receiving renewed interest, now popularly used for Functional foods. The term functional foods was first introduced in Japan in the mid-1980s and refers to processed foods containing ingredients that aid specific bodily functions in addition to being nutritious. The Institute of Medicine's Food and Nutrition Board (IOM/FNB, 1994), Japan defined functional foods as "any food or food ingredient that may provide a health benefit beyond the traditional nutrients it contains." Functional foods are foods that provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition due to certain physiologically active components, which may or may not have been manipulated or modified to enhance their bioactivity. These foods may help prevent disease, reduce the risk of developing disease, or enhance health. Rapid advances in food science and technology, an aging population, the rapid rise in health care costs, and changing government marketing and labeling regulations have also had an impact on the functional foods market. Functional foods have been...

...Brett Hall, R.D. ToxicBellyBugFix.com 2 WARNING: Hi, my name is Brett Hall, Registered Dietician, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in my professional, expert opinion, your entire G.I. tract (consisting of more than 20 feet of small and large intestine) has been infested with toxic “bugs” that are secretly causing a massive “bacterial imbalance” within your body—a condition that may very well lead to a long road of pain and suffering for both you and your loved ones, and even worse, become life-threatening. toxic “bugs” What makes me say this? Well, like you, millions of folks all over the world are unknowingly creating this dangerous imbalance through the ingestion of bacteriapromoting foods, medications, and other “toxic materials” that we are exposed to on a near daily basis. I’m talking about the use of antacids, artificial sweeteners, “diet” beverages and food items, certain brands of yogurt, ibuprofen, laxatives, alcohol, mouth wash and even some brands of chewing gum, dishwasher detergent and toothpaste. What’s more, this bacterial imbalance is also directly linked to the use of antibiotics— either prescribed to us by a doctor or those quietly hidden within our water and food supply—especially within meats and dairy products.1 And if that wasn’t bad enough, believe it or not, these health-destroying bacteria further feed and multiply on something you probably eat every single day—sugar.2 ToxicBellyBugFix.com 3 Fact is, if you suffer from irregular bowel...

...P1 Public Health Strategies in the UK and their origins. In this article I am going to describe the key features of public health strategies as they relate to current times in the UK. -Monitoring the health status of the population. This strategy involves keeping track of people’s health/keeping an eye on everyone though statics. By tracking changes in the health of the population health professionals are able to alert people to potential problems, for example regular check-ups, at doctors for asthma or Dentist to check up on teeth and make sure they are in good condition plus Orthodontic. Also the NHS provide a free midlife MOT to check people aged between 40-74, to make sure they are in good health and to help reduce the number of elderly who suffer with high blood pressure. Also for HIV, they monitor the health of the population with HIV tracking the number of people with HIV within the population. This helps the NHS find out the population of people with HIV in order for them to take further actions. -Identifying the health needs of the population. This strategy involves identifying health needs, including those that are common problems/ illness that are considered a major problem. For example identifying the illness and providing support through services or medicine, advert are a great way that can get you aware, and provide you with health awareness that is common in the population. Dr. Reena Aggarwal Dr. Bhawana Chanana (Course Coordinator) (Mentor) ACKNOWLEDGEMENT I would like to give my greatest gratitude to the director of NIFT, Mrs. Nilima Rani for giving me this opportunity to learn various courses that would help me pursue my career as a textile designer. I would also like to thank the course coordinator of Textile Design, Dr. Reena Aggarwal, my mentor Ms. Bhawana Chanana and subject teacher, Ms. Bhawana Chanana for helping me and guiding me throughout the study for this document and helping me improve the quality of my research. ABSTRACT The expansion of textile production and consumption has led to an increased pollution, water shortages, fossil fuel and raw material depletion and climate change. Production of polyester fiber, the most widely used manmade fiber, consumes no renewable resources and high energy levels and generates atmospheric emissions. Also finishing of textiles consumes a large amount of water as well and energy. However, production of apparels is more environmentally friendly; still, outsourcing from low cost countries consumes more fuel for transportation. A throw away mentality has also been adopted by the consumers with the ongoing...

...strong user. For example if a service user has not got a good social life and are very insecure because they are very emotionally unhealthy but has a good physical health this would show they are still not healthy because due to the emotional issues they may not be eating and staying depressed unlike the service user with physical issues. The ‘World Health Organisation’ also known as (WHO) would define health in a different way to other people’s organisations. WHO defined health as ‘a state of complete physical, Mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, in 1948. WHO later updated there definition in 1984’ the extent to which an individual or group is able, on the one hand, to realise aspirations and satisfy need, and on the other hand, to change or cope with the environment.’ WHO’s definition meant health was more than just physically, it was about reaching users potential as well as the mental, social, spiritual, societal and emotional health, these made up an individual’s good health. http://who.int/about/definition/en/print.html There are six aspects of health which are: Physical health- the mechanical ability of the body Mental health- the ability to think clearly and coherently, strongly allied to emotional...
