Journal Review

...Journal Review Tesira Slaughter 5/13/12 HCA 250 Nancy Munoz Today’s society is faced with violence in the workplace. One of the main things that happens and continues to happen is “Cyber bullying”. Cyber bullying is defined as any type of negative act that happens on a frequent basis, whether it is face to face, via text message, via email, or on the Internet. Also, bullying can come from the manager and/or supervisor, as to where they constantly are bothering you about the workload. There are many forms of bullying that may lead to violence in the workplace: face-to-face, cyber bullying, e bullying, SMS bullying, mobile bullying, digital bullying, and online. Bullying has been found to occur between children and adolescents. Face to face bullying happens because of an imbalance of power, which is when a person has insecure issues about themselves they try to bring other people down as well. When individuals bully it is more then likely because they have had a rough upbringing or they want people to feel the same pain that they are going through. Cyber bullying is when a human being uses computer technology to send derogatory or life threatening messages to an individual. They might also post personal information and make it publicly noticeable so it will embarrass that individual. E-bullying is another that can lead to violence in the workplace, personal information, hatred messages, or threatening messages are sent through emails. Technology has changed...

Violence in the Workplace

...Violence in the Workplace HCA 250 November 24, 2012 Violence in the workplace has become so bad throughout each state and in the world today. Workplace violence has not only cost American employers in dollars but also in cents. The violence has been taking its toll on the employees day to day. There are beyond numerous numbers of nonfatal acts of violence in the workplace. Who would have thought that waking up in the morning and going to work would be so bad and targeted by violence, discrimination and even some retaliation at work? This has become so sad and disturbing. Now-a-days, children cannot even go to school without being bullied or harassed. The article that was chosen is called “Trends in the Workplace Violence in the Remote Area Nursing Workforce”. This is a very informative article that speaks about the types of violence and how it has increased within the last decade. The article has taken some of the present data of violence in the workplace and compared it to the data that was collected about 13 years ago. The setting of this article took place in Australia and was focused on a few hundred nurses whom worked in rural areas throughout Australia, who worked in the health facilities. According to the article it stated that there has been an “increase in all incidents” that were “reported violence in the workplace between 1995 and 2008” (Opie, Lenthall, & Dollard, 2010). Several times of violence that had been reported were either verbal aggression, physical...

Substance Abuse

...Substance Abuse Paper Natoshia Smith September 27, 2013 HCA/250 Serina Maden Factors that influence whether individuals start to smoke, drink alcohol, or use drugs. For young people it can be peer pressure from their friends, or maybe their emotions. Many young people at times try to fit in with their friends, and may start smoking, or drinking because of this. I grew up in a rough neighborhood that was full of violence and drugs. I have seen many of my childhood friends that were introduced to alcohol or drugs, because the individuals that they were with were using alcohol or drugs. In my opinion, I think that you always have a choice when it comes to using alcohol or drugs; it’s a choice that you make. The effects of tobacco, alcohol, or abuse in the workplace can cause problems in the workplace. The use of drugs or alcohol in the workplace is in violation of the policy and can result in displinary action and possibly termination from your employment. Performing your job duties while you’re intoxicated or abusing drugs can cause something to go wrong. For example, if you’re operating a machine, you can lose a limb. It’s very unsafe to be intoxicated or abuse drugs while at the workplace. It can also affect a co-worker in a number of areas. They may not have the ability to perform their job duties correctly, and this can affect a co-worker if you’re running the job together. Drugs and alcohol can also cause the individual to miss work. Individuals with drug or alcohol...

...ork2012 - 2013 Catalog A Message from the President “Sullivan University is truly a unique and student success focused institution.” I have shared that statement with numerous groups and it simply summarizes my basic philosophy of what Sullivan is all about. When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations.
