It will include a description of the populations’ demographic based on research of professional literature. It will also include the description of my personal awareness of population before studying the demographics. It will state the effect of research on personal attitudes after gathering knowledge. It will then describe how knowledge might affect health care delivery. Finally, I will use self-reflection to evaluate my perception before and after learning about the population (University of Phoenix, 2013). Description of the Population’s Demographic The population’s demographic affected by the child abuse by parents, are both the parents and the children. Children affected by parental child abuse are a vulnerable population because often time children do not know who to seek help from. The children demographic are affected greatly because many times children feel that they do not want to get their parents in trouble because of the abuse. Children abused by parents are often considered a social problem, which is often silent. “Child abuse and neglect by parents remains a salient social problem, thus warranting a continued evaluation of measurement tools...

...Later Adulthood Development Report BSHS/325 Late Adulthood starting at 65+ begins to enter different stages of their lives. Aging involves biophysical changes and challenges, senescence and health issues, Pharmaceutical interventions, and closer monitoring of health and wellness. As an individual age they begin to experience Wisdom: Ego vs. Despair, This stage marks a considerable reduction in productivity and is when a person enters the retirement phase. During this stage, adults tend to look back upon their lives to figure whether they have led a successful life. If so, a feeling of contentment and what Erikson called Integrity vs. Prevails on the adult. This reflection; if not positive, leads to a state of despair where nothing can be done to turn back time and change. This stage and reflection can also be marked by regrets if the aging adult is left to feel unaccomplished. A prominent aspect of this stage is also the fear of death, which contributes to the hopelessness that becomes apparent at this stage. An adult's values at this stage are set and firm nothing can alter or change the thought process or the perception with which she/he now views the world. Late adulthood can be marked by menopause and osteoporosis, a reduction in bone density, grey hair, less skin elasticity, and a loss of muscle mass resulting in an increase of body fat. Cognitively, during late adulthood verbal skills such as vocabulary and broad-spectrum knowledge are still intact. However, memory...

...yReflection: Spirituality This reflection will follow Gibbs (1988) ‘learn by doing’ model to give an account of a personal experience that was faced during a practice placement. Spirituality has been chosen as the topic to reflect upon after the student (the author) was encouraged to address questions about the spiritual part of care, in which positive practice was felt. The incident in question involved a female patient who was suffering with severe depression following a traumatic event several years prior. A pseudonym will be used for the patient throughout this reflection to ensure confidentiality is maintained, and in compliance to the Nursing and Midwifery Councils (2008) code. Difficult or traumatic events in a persons’ life may lead to questions about why something is happening or why something happens at all. Spirituality or looking for meaning in life is a personal thing that often becomes more important in times of emotional distress, physical and mental illness, loss, bereavement and the approach of death. For some people spirituality is a religious belief, but for others spirituality can be a source of inspiration or orientation in life such as appreciating nature (National Health Service, 2012) and (The Royal College of Psychiatrists, 2010). Furthermore it has been suggested that often it is not until a crisis or illness occurs that spiritual encounters transpire, in addition to physical and emotional experiences because the illusion of security is shattered...

...barrier when showing a patient with moderate learning difficulties how to use an inhaler properly. This assignment will look at reflective practice using Gibbs Model of reflection as a guide (Gibbs 1998.) It will also discuss communication theory and principles of good practice. Some of this assignment will be written in the first person and it will also maintain confidentiality in keeping with the Nursing and Midwifery Guidelines (NMC 2010.) Reflective Practice according to Quinn (1998), is the ability to think and consider experience, perception, ideas, values and beliefs, with a view to the discovery of new relations or the drawing of conclusions for the guidance of future action In this essay I am going to use Gibbs (1988) cycle of reflection. This framework guides you through a cycle in order to provide guidance and structure when reflecting on an event, the analysis of feelings, the evaluation of experience in order to examine what you would do it the situation arouse again. Reflecting in health care is important as it is a key skill which enables you to manage the personal and also professional impact for you patients and wellbeing needs on a daily basis to inform learning from practice. The first stage of Gibbs is description of events. Using this cycle I will now discuss my patient and the care I provided. I met Richard and his father, Mr Evans in my clinic where they attended for Richards asthma review. Richard is a 35yr old man, Who lives at home with his...
