Whitmore (2001) quoted Gallwey’s definition of coaching as “Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them” (p. 8). There are several definitions of coaching that attempts to pinpoint or identify the various types of coaching. Harkavy (2007) shared what the purpose of a coach is, “Your purpose as a coaching leader is to add the most value to the people you lead and to help them improve” (p. 4). This definition of what a coach does give us the responsibility to care about people enough to see them grow and develop.
