...What Does Home Really Mean? According to Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, “there is no place like home,” but what does home mean? According to Oxford mini Dictionary and Thesaurus, home is “the place where you live.” However, to me, home is anywhere one feels the most comfortable, and is surrounded by the people he or she loves. Susan Clayton, Tony Chapman, and Mindy Koeing have different views of what home means to them; however, Mindy Koenig’s view is the closest to mine. Your home can say a lot about you as a person. Clayton says, “for many people their home is part of their self-definition, which is why we do things like decorate our houses and take care of our lawns” (“The Psychology of Home: Why Where You Live Means so Much”). It is not always noticeable, but we do compare what people’s houses look like to the kind of person he or she is. Clayton also mentioned, “We may use our own homes to distinguish ourselves” (“The Psychology of Home: Why Where You Live Means so Much”). This shows how much pride people put into their home and what it really means to them. Commonly most people associate their home with their happy place, therefore they want their house to be as presentable as possible....

...Home. Let’s face it we all have our pre-conceived norms on what “home” means. The most common outcomes that come to mind are the literal house you were raised in, the people you grew up with, or perhaps your hometown. Webster dictionary states that home is “the place where one lives permanently, esp. as a member of a family or household.” Houses, apartments, trailers, mobile homes, and even tents are considered to be homes for people. But what makes a home, a home? Home is what you make it. For me, home is where I can be at peace and especially comfortable. I kid you not there is no greater feeling than using the bathroom in your own house. I think what most students can relate too is enduring through a tough day at school, and as soon they come home they undress into sweats and a t-shirt and either eat, sleep, or go on Facebook. If you think about it, you can essentially do whatever you want because it is your house. You can do all of your pondering, crying, sleeping, eating, schoolwork, etc. in the comfort of your home. I view it as a safe haven, somewhere I can call sanctuary. I know for a fact after I’ve had a long school day I like to just lock myself in my room and listen to music. It’s my way of escaping from the world and all of its distractions. Sure I can pleasure you with nostalgic memories from my childhood or the numerous holidays and vacation spots I enjoyed, but what’s unique about that. Like you said, I’m sure you don’t want to read the same thing eighteen...

When buying a house I may have to give something’s in order to buy a house that I want. It may have to not go on that family vacation or even not go out every week to a dinner with my wife. I must look at the things that are things that I like or want to do and give them up for things that I need or need to do to get what I want. The second principles ties right into the same things as principle one, the cost of something is what you give up to get it. I need to look at what I am giving up and is it worth what I am going to get in return. In the third and fourth principles bring together another whole aspect of buying house also. ...Your Home Based Website Business Starting your own home based web business can be the dream of a lifetime. Working from home, no boss to answer to, make your own hours and spending more time with your family always sounds like a really sweet deal. There are a whole lot of positives to working at home. But there are some obvious common mistakes to avoid that are overlooked by so many starting a home based business. Not taking your home business seriously and neglecting to consider these common mistakes will increase your exposure to failure even before your business gets off the ground. Lack Of Dedication And A Plan – When you are working at home, it is extremely easy to become distracted, spend time with the family or wander off to watch television because you are the one making the rules. That is why you need to have a detailed business plan that outlines what your vision is for your home business, what your goals are and how to accomplish them. Also, you need to set benchmarks to determine where you expect to be as far as developing your business in one year, three years, five years and so on. You can also inject into this plan what your estimated expenditures are so you have an idea of costs. Also include what you personally expect to realize from this venture. ...Before buying a home, you want to make sure that everything stays up to par. It is sometimes surprising how many people place trust in the home inspector to tell them the truth. What a lot of people do not realize is that most home inspectors will not scrutinize anything that is not blatantly obvious. The typical response when something seems out of place is to refer it to the specialist. The problem has become so widespread that the state of Arizona has now created a system where you have to attend college to be given a license. Is There a Problem? Refer It to the Specialist Your standard home inspector might spot an issue, but a lot of them aren't going to tell you if there is a gas problem or the home had previously been used as a meth...

...describes what she thinks of a home as. Quindlen met a woman who claimed to be passing through, but she knew that she had seen this woman more. She also talks about what she thinks a home is and I do not completely agree with what she thinks a home is. A person could have everything they want in a house, but if there is no love and support, then it is not a home. I do not know what it is like to be homeless, but I do know what it is like for a home to not feel like a home. I agree with Quindlen that home is where the heart is, it is a shame there are so many homeless people in the world, and that a home should be a stable place. It is nice to have a roof over my head and I appreciate everything I have, but all of that does not make a place a home. I do not believe that you are where you live, unlike Quindlen (191). Where you come from does not always make you who you are today. A person can come from a terrible home and may have struggles as a child but that does not mean they will grow up to be a terrible person. Home is where the heart is and if you have a good heart, you will make a good home whether it is when you are young or when you start a family. One of the most common rules of life is to learn from your mistakes. Though how you were raised is not a...

...Bellini Wants You to Keep Your Emotions Out of Home Buying Kyle David Bellini comprehends that buying a home is a big deal for most people, especially if it is their first home. Everyone wants to find a place of their own to raise a family or grow old. However, Bellini warns that home buying is no place for emotions. When you are seeking a new home, scouring the listings with your agent, you must think clearly and logically. Simply seeing a home and falling in love with the layout or neighborhood is not enough of a reason to purchase it. Home buying is one of the largest commitments you will make in your life, and definitely the greatest financial commitment. Home buying is an investment, hopefully an investment in your family's future. It is far wiser to buy a home that has a good value and great potential, than purchasing one that happens to have your favorite color already painted on the walls. Bellini says that finding the perfect home is a lot like falling in love with your spouse. Looks may be appealing at the beginning, but what that person or home brings to the table in the long run is what is more important. Kyle David Bellini also tells clients that it is important that they use their instincts. This is different than making an emotional decision. Following your instincts will keep you from buying a money pit or making a poor investment....

...plans are to convert the whole company to a “home-office” working environment over the next four years. You are convinced that this policy would considerably reduce costs and greatly increase efficiency. Tremendous cost savings have already been achieved on the production side of the business, but there is now very little potential for further improvements there. It is on the sales and administration side that you must be looking to reduce costs; dispensing with the overheads of the regional offices (whilst retaining the personnel) is the way to go. Achieving this change within your four-year timeframe is an important goal for senior management. Any compromise including a continued office presence in Bodø that you may reach in the forthcoming negotiation ought to have a strict time limit placed on it. Since you realise that the planned switch to home offices is likely to meet resistance from the staff, you were not initially planning to make the changeover quickly. However, the excellent offer you recently received from a real estate agent for the Sjøgata premises in Bodø has changed the situation. If you can persuade the Bodø employees to agree a home-office solution now, you could 1) sell the Sjøgata premises at well over market price, and 2) use Bodø as a pilot project in the company’s reorganisation process. The offer for Sjøgata Three weeks ago an estate agent acting on behalf of a very large hotel chain approached you. The company it is representing is trying to...

...House – Decision XECO 212 Week 9 7/21/11 Seffan Bune Home ownership is considered by many as the pinnacle of the American dream, a two car garage, white picket fence, and nice backyard for those projects that are somehow always nearly completed. This is what we have been told is the major leap into adulthood and makes you one of the high caliber Americans who can claim that their home is their castle, but is this still true in this country? With the financial downturn and the home foreclosures at a all time high, nearly every block I see has a home for sale at reduced price so how does this milestone still hold up to scrutiny and how can this generation still reach for that goalpost of what is considered the standard of the happy nuclear family? The decision to purchase a home is the major point in an American life and it is a decision that should not be taken lightly because if not done correctly and with a plan on how to sustain the purchase that is not solid the consequences could be dire. After taking this course I have found out that there are methods and concepts that if implemented correctly the idea of owning a home is still within grasp of many of us but there are many things that need to be weighed before pulling the trigger on such a large and momentous decision. First are the ten principles of economics which I will go into more detail later on that are crucial to making a large purchase be it a home, car, or any other large ticket item that can have ramifications...

But is it really that easy of a choice? You have a pile of student debt and your parents have a big basement or even your old bedroom rent-free. ...to buy a home and certainly there are many factors that need to be considered. The first step is to figure out how much you can afford to spend on a new home. In order to figure out how much you can spend in a home is to work on a personal budget that will reflect how much you're spending on everyday things. A good budget will help guide you to the right price range of homes as well as prevent you from spending more than you should on your house. This can happen when the bank says you can afford a certain price range of homes based on your income and debt, but they haven't taken into consideration all of your expensive hobbies, your monthly child care expenses, the fact that your car may need maintenance and emergency situations also you probably don't want to have to change your lifestyle in order to buy a more expensive home. By having control of your personal budget, you can compare your own numbers with what the bank is willing to lend you to come up with a very manageable mortgage payment that will let you continue the same lifestyle you currently have and avoid to enter in a debt that you may not able to fulfill and end up losing your saving. Part of coming up with a budget will be to consider the principles of economics, especially the “People Face Trade-Offs”; this particular principle relates to the many sacrifices that you may have to made in order to accomplish the purchase of your home. Another important principle is “The Cost of Something Is What you Give Up...

...in a very good mood when I get home. I think most people cannot help but carry some of their mood from work home with them. And things at home can affect your mood at work, particularly if it is negative. In this paper I will discuss what I believe job satisfaction spillover is and whether it is a positive or negative. I will also analyze the results of the study conducted in the required reading article and discuss the conclusions that came from the study. Discussion To me, job satisfaction spillover is basically letting what happens at work affect your home life and what happens at home, affect your work. So if you have a bad day at work, you are most likely going to be in a bad mood when you first get home. Of course some people are able to separate their work and personal lives, but I believe no matter how hard you try, they will affect each other to some degree. If you are having problems with your family at home, most of the time it is hard to not think about it when you are at work. This is going to affect your work. I think being unhappy at home has a greater affect on work, than does being happy at work has on home life. If you truly enjoyed your job and felt satisfied, you feel good about your situation. This would probably put you in a good mood when you left work and went home. But if you did not like what you did for work, you would probably be in a bad mood. Depending on how much work you are required to do at home, seems to have an effect on job...
