I attended the Arts in Heart of Augusta Festival. This is a 2 ½ days event with different cultural food, musical performs, poetry, and arts from sculpture, paintings, sketching, etc. This festival is 3 to 4 blocks longs. I went on the opening night and I experience different types of performance. The first performance was a musical group called “Moses”, started at 7:15pm at the community stage. During the performance, they only had once light on the artist, who was dressed in regular clothing. His performance consists of singing and rapping about his life. He performed a song about dating during his time and one about people who hate him. This organization was founded in 2011 by Moneka Smith. They colors are purple and pink. They organize helped bring down the last performer from Texas, by the name of LyricaKantrell, to Arts of the Heart of Augusta Festival. LyricaKantrell performed 5 different poems. The first poem was inspired by a deputy in the army who committed suicide. She also informed the audiences that every 22 minutes a veteran commit suicide and that she tried to commit it twice herself, which make this poem so special to her. She also performed a poem called Homeless, 3rd eye alumni, Carrots, and the last poem about being pretty. Her last poem she wrote this morning. LyricaKantrell stated that writing poetry makes you see things different from the way the world sees it. One of the poems that was very powerful to me was the poem called Suicide. Due to the fact that she was a victim of Katrina, which lend to her joining the arm. This emotionally impacted me because not only was she a victim of Katrina, but also a survivor of two attempted suicide, this ultimately lead to her using poetry as her escape
