Heartbreak In Edwidge Danticat's Kirk? Krak

In this weeks novel Kirk? Krak! By Edwidge Danticat is composed of a couple different short stories, there all different, but have the same theme among them, Heartbreak. Heartbreak is sensed throughout this whole book and is in my mind the biggest overall theme in the novel. This novel always keeps you guessing on what’s going to happen but ultimately each story ends with heartbreak. The first story in the novel “The Children in The Sea” is about a young couple that are in love but their parents disagree with their love. “ And just as the baby’s head sank, so did hers. They went together like two bottles beneath a waterfall. The shock last only so long. There was no time to even try and save her”(Danticat 26). I found this quote to be important because of the imagery that I saw while reading this part. During this part the girl who is in love with the guy she commits suicide. Her baby dies then she puts the baby in the water and she follows never to be seen again. This story starts out with love but ends with death and heartbreak. …show more content…
