Long-Short Strategy Long-short strategy is a hedge fund strategy in investment, which involves the long positon in a stock and short position in another stock. A Long position simply means buying an undervalued stock in a lower price that are expected to get an increasing value in it. On the other hand, short position in a stock means borrowing some shares from brokers who also borrows the share from institutional companies, then sell it immediately in the market and buy those stocks back at a lower price later. The profit is the different between the initial selling price and the later price when buying it back. The ideal situation for the long-short strategy is...

...Comparing Historical Communication Wow, what do I think of this topic? I’ll start off with elocution (behaviorism). During the 1700s elocution was considered an art form, and a formal discipline. Elocution encompasses a number of important principles, articulation, inflection, accent, voice, and gesture. The study of this topic seems to me, to be very important. Humans in general need to convey the meaning behind their message. Without this course of study and its effects on our modern world we as a species might not be as advanced as we are. Imagine one of our nation’s speakers approaches a podium in a foreign country. He is not dressed in proper attire. He gives his speech about how trade between our nations could benefit us both. Unfortunately he is slouched over and doesn’t move or gesture to convey the feelings and motives behind his speech. He delivers the speech without the correct intonation and volume. He doesn’t use effective wording and a rich tone of voice. I imagine witnessing this would be a catastrophe for any relations between two foreign nations. Without the study of behaviorism and the methods of elocution, we would still be living in hovels, and most likely living in fear of the people around us. My point of view about the interpretive studies or (humanism) would have to start with Classical Greek and Hellenistic Humanism. The classical period in Greece, and the Greek-influenced period that directly followed, was the wellspring for philosophy and art in...

...Conception of the Cold War Paul Tate SS310-02: Exploring the 1960s - An Interdisciplinary Approach Kaplan University March 10, 2013 Conceptions of the Cold War The cold war was quite enticing, yet filled with uncertainty, the expectations of the interviewees are each different, yet intriguing in the following synopsis of their opinions pertaining to the cold war. The first interviewee concept of the cold war was “Armageddon waiting to happen “as stated in her own words, she went on to say that “the world will probably come to an end soon”. Her understanding of the cold war was that the Russians are going to destroy America with very powerful atomic weapons, because we, the United States gave them the technology. She is now about sixty three years old, and felt that the world would suffer because of Russia’s disdain for the United States. Her definition of the cold war was very close to the definition, defining the cold war as a proxy war between the United States and the Soviet Union. She called the Soviet Union Russia, when I questioned her understanding of the difference between the two terms. She still is worried about an atomic holocaust. I think her understanding of the cold war is very similar to that of this course, because in no uncertain terms, did she not relay the thought that the cold war was really a confrontational, anticipatory battle between the United States and the Soviet Union. “I heard that we were doomed to die, because the Soviet Union is...

...Today in South Florida, we face an invasion from a silent and slithery enemy, the Burmese python. To give everyone some information on the reptile I did some fact finding on the internet (Wikipedia) to get some basic information on the size of this animal, wow was I amazed at the results. The most important item I was curious about was; is this animal venomous, which it is not. Hurray for us on that one. However, the Burmese python is one of the largest snakes in the world; it reaches lengths of up 23 feet and weights of over 200 pounds. The largest python found thus far in the Everglades was 16 feet long and weighed 152 pounds. Hatchlings range in length from 19-31 inches and can more than double in size within the first year. Burmese pythons are light colored with dark brown blotches bordered in black, and a pale belly. They grow much longer and heavier than any of Florida's native snakes the largest is the indigo snake that grows to 8.5 feet. It is estimated that these reptiles are escaped or discarded pets. State rules that went into effect this year should help prevent those less ethical individuals from dumping these creatures into our beloved eco system. The laws include a $100 annual permit to own “reptiles of concern,” and a mandatory microchip. Nevertheless, it is imperative that more be done to educate people about the problem of turning loose non-native species. In the past several decades, this species of reptile has thrived in the warm...

...magic-carpet ride in the second act. Seriously, it’s amazing. Hands down one of the best Broadway shows I've seen. The theater itself is majestic and as soon as the show starts, you are whisked away to another world. All the costumes, light displays, scene props were of beautiful colors and saying that the magic carpet ride scene blew me away would be an understatement. The theater itself is absolutely gorgeous and beautifully timeless. The details of the theater and especially its ceiling are just fascinating and transported me back to when it was first built in the late 1800s to early 1900s... I almost felt like I would see Abraham Lincoln when I looked up at the balconies! Historical and stunning! My only real "complaints" was that I wasn't crazy about Jasmine as I found her voice to be too high-pitched to the point of annoying... Plus, I found some of the dancing a little more out of sync than I would have expected from a Tony Award-winning show people pay up to hundreds of dollars to see.I loved that while the musical stayed mostly true to Disney movie, it did add its own elements. That way, it was less predictable and a...

...A television mini-series. The mini-series “The Bible” directed by Christopher Spencer, is a show that tells the stories of the entire Bible. Many Christians did not feel comfortable and were skeptical with letting Hollywood take on such a prestige piece of literature because they thought it would alter its content and devalue its significance, but the mini-series was actually a massive success earning over three Emmy award nominations. In the article “‘The Bible' – This Time, Hollywood Got It Right” by Geoff Tunnicliffe, he says that a mini-series that is not only "not disappointing," but actually rises to the top of the Wow scale due to its incredible accuracy of the word of the bible and although the series could not capture every detail of the entire bible, (which alters its original content) it still is able to able to convey the message of Christianity to consumers in a way the original book did not as well through its, emotion, screenplay and Bible to movie script. (Christian Post) In conclusion, The Bible has tremendously influenced American culture and world culture through bringing people together and gives great purpose to the world. Throughout the centuries of years, it has been written It has still managed to preserve something of an aura of uniqueness and stands head and shoulders above all the very greatest in the literature of the world and has...

...parent to child. The songs and meanings were often changed to reflect change in times. Knowledge of folk songs and musicians grew, and popular musicians began to draw on folk music as an imaginative source as never before in the 1960s. "Folk music" became a form of popular music by singer/songwriter Bob Dylan, who helped pioneer the acoustic performing style that echoed the society based on folk musicians. Music writers, intellectuals and fans began to look for new ways to describe the different musical styles still being sung and played in communities across America, and not heard on radios. The term "roots music" is now used to refer to this broad range of musical genre, which includes blues, gospel, traditional country, Native American pow-wow, western swing polka and Tex-Mex. What can roots music teach us about...

...Prevailing Philosophies and Psychosocial Dimensions of Philippine Contemporary Novels in English Chapter I – Introduction Philippine contemporary novels or literature in general is an offshoot of the Philippine-American War or what is coined as the Philippine War of Independence which transpired from 1899 to 1902. As early as 1863, the Spanish colonizers have introduced the public elementary school system to the Philippines. During the American colonization, U.S. soldiers have started layering down the bricks as foundation of the public school system in the Philippines when they opened the first public school in the Philippines at Corregidor Island. On January 21, 1901, the Taft Commission headed by William Howard Taft, passed the Education Act No. 34 that incepted the Department of Public Instruction. William Howard Taft was also given the responsibility of expanding the public school system in and around the Philippines. On August 21, 1901; around 600 American educators or “Thomasites” were sent to the Philippines by the U.S Government aboard the USAT Thomas whose main purpose is to integrate a new and expanded public school system, to train and hone Filipino teachers with the use of English as the primary medium of instruction, and to inculcate basic education to Filipinos. ...An English author widely read in the nineteen-hundreds, was Jane Austen. Although Austen’s works were widely read and popular in her lifetime, she published her works anonymously. All of her books are mainly about of her bright, young heroines in courtship and finally marriage, even though Austen herself never married. Her best-known books include PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Virginia Woolf, a renown critic in Austen’s time called Austen "the most perfect artist among women." Austen’s position as part of the upper class of the early nineteenth century British society gave her not only a subject for her novels but also the time needed for writing. Jane Austen was born, in Steventon, Hampshire, where her father, Rev. George Austen, was a rector. She was the second daughter and seventh child in a family of eight. Austen’s father’s unexpectedly retired after twenty-five years of living in Steventon; hence the family sold off everything and moved to Bath. Jane, aged twenty-five, and her elder sister, Cassandra (age twenty-eight), were considered to be confirmed old maids, followed their parents. Jane Austen was mostly tutored at home, and irregularly at school, but she received a broader education than many women of her time. She started to write for family amusement as a child. Her parents were avid readers; Austen's own favorite poet was Cowper. Her earliest-known writings date from about 1787. Very shy about her writing, she wrote on small pieces of paper that she slipped under the desk...
