...reviewing my lecture notes along with studying for my exams. The first focus that is important for me to keep consistent is my time management skills. Before I did not have a set strategy for how I am going to execute this so I just went with the flow as the day passed. This was a not beneficial for me because for anything that happened unexpected, I was not prepared with a backup plan to get caught up. I would instead wait until later on during the week to catch up on what I missed so I decided to make an schedule/planner. In the morning I go to the gym before lectures that way I have energy to go about my day. In between lectures, I use to walk back to residence to take a nap, but now I stay on campus and spend time in open seminar rooms where I catch up on my readings. When the day finishes, I double check to make sure I have my readings finished before next day’s lecture and if I do, I allow myself to hang out with my friends by going to the gym at night or watching television. Overall, I think I’m doing a decent job of making this an everyday habit. The only criticism I have for myself in regards to time management is making sure I check my email everyday since I learned my lesson for missing assignments for the STEP program. Another focus I am keeping consistent is my attendance. Last term I use to miss some morning classes due to sleeping in, but with the planner I have made for myself that is no longer a problem since I’m a the gym every morning before...

...August 25, 2015 To: Kaci Bray From: Joseph Kolega Subject: Orientation – Freshman Point of view Hello, I am a freshman at KU this semester. Before this, however, I went through an admissions process along with my orientation to follow. For the most part my transition from high school student to college student was nearly seamless. Looking back at the entire process, there are a few air bubbles I think if smoothed out could benefit not only the incoming freshman, but the university as a whole. Seminars? I will admit I’m not fully adept in courses at KU just yet, nor will I ever be. One thing that irked me orientation day was the hour long lecture on how critical a seminar class will be to our KU core. Now I understand this is a huge thing in liberal education, but gearing everyone for an hour to take one course they will never use isn’t justified when there are 100 other courses I could choose that weren’t as heavily endorsed. The school biased common book seminars, and I almost felt as though they were sticking their hand in my education, to be dramatic. Account Issues Once it was time to log in and finally enroll into our courses, I hit a road block when I found out we were supposed to have our KU ID and password already memorized and ready to go. Being told to walk all the way up to a different hall to reset my account was troubling and ultimately put me behind in line to pick ideal class times. I take partial accountability for my lack of knowledge on my own account...

...Jesus: Advocating Community Some would say God, or the author of Genesis, got it right: "It is not good for man to be alone." For as long as there have been humans, there have been communities. We are communal beings. From the first small tribes to the modern day mega cities, communities have evolved just as much as the human species. There are many ways that one can identify with a community. Human beings as well as many other species, especially primates, need these groupings as much as most social animals. Watch as every Sunday thousands sit distant from their closest sports field, straining to see the players, although they can far more easily watch the game at home in the comfort of their living rooms. Yet, in modern times, the community seems to be falling apart. They are not as strong as they once were. It is time we look back to the social climate that forged one of the most influential revolutionaries of all time. The historical Jesus of Nazareth. As John Crossan said “If the supreme value for the twentieth-century American imagination is individualism , based on economics and property, that for the first-century Mediterranean imagination can be called, to the contrary, groupism.” Our society has experienced major social shifts that would be unimaginable to a small Jewish town in ancient Palestine. Individuals no longer realize they need to rely on others in the way they once did. Modern technology has pushed us farther and farther into our own homes and away...

... Inflammation occurs when there is sickness or some type of injury to the body. Injured cells release a certain chemical that lets the immune system know that there is something wrong. They attract healing cells which are sent out to work on damaged tissue. HIV/AIDS is transmitted through many bodily fluids. These fluids are Blood, Semen, Pre-seminal fluid, Breast milk, vaginal fluids, Rectal mucous. Other body fluids and waste products like feces, nasal fluid, saliva, sweat, tears, urine, or vomit don’t contain enough HIV to infect you, unless they have blood mixed in them and you have significant and direct contact with them. Living in an environment that does not have the proper education about this disease will make it more likely to be spread around form person to person. Being that...

...Epidemiology: HIV The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is one of the world’s largest pandemics as well as one of the most known diseases. With HIV being so common amongst our population, in today’s world many people still lack the knowledge of what HIV really is and how it is transmitted. This paper will explain in depth of how HIV is spread and the impact it has on society. Let’s begin with the history of HIV, where did it come from? Although there is no actual evidence to support this theory scientist believed the disease came from Chimpanzee’s that were infected. Hunters would eat the contaminated meat and then they became infected. The first report of HIV contraction came from a man from Congo in 1959, but how he became HIV positive is unknown (Where did HIV come from?, 2011). In 2011 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 49, 273 people were diagnosed with HIV in the United States. In the same year there were an estimated 1.1 million people with the disease and 1 out of 6 of those people might not know they are infected (HIV in The United States, 2011). HIV is transmitted through body fluids such as semen, pre- semen, rectal and vaginal fluids as well as through the sharing of needles. This makes the gay, lesbian and MSM population more susceptible to acquiring the disease due to their risky sexual practices (HIV Transmission, 2014). The populations of intravenous drug users are also at risk for catching HIV, many of them being homeless and not...

...HIV/AIDS treatments: Sub-Saharan African nations still have a long way to go HIV-AIDS has infected over thirty million people in the world. Over 95% of all AIDS cases in the world are in Africa and in some of those countries over 40% of the people are infected (Frederickson and Kanabus HIV and AIDS in Africa 1). AIDS does not solely affect homosexuals, or any certain ethnicity of people, either; HIV-AIDS can affect any type of ethnicity including African Americans, Caucasians, Asians, Indians, and Hispanic people. AIDS cannot be reversed or cured, but with proper treatment this deadly virus can be controlled and people can live a nearly normal life. In Africa, though, proper treatment is not nearly as available as it is in some other countries. Approximately 2.3 million people died in 2003 in Sub-Saharan Africa alone and that is only the beginning (Frederickson and Kanabus HIV 1). Particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, where hospital provide inferior treatment to infected patients because of their socioeconomic status, lack of training of their health providers, shortage of medical staffs, lack of appropriate equipment, insufficient funds allocated for medicine and doctors salary and the absence of counselor or prevention unit in these facilities. HIV/Aids has been named a global epidemic with its toll felt significantly especially in Africa. It has been a major cause of death in the world; it also continued to be a public health concern. It poses huge threat of wiping out...

...Matthew 6:33 Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and All these things shall be added unto you, All these things: " Needs of Life and Not wants What was spoke in previous verses What is First: Priority: Jesus wants the first moments of everyday. Jesus wants the first day of every week. Jesus wants the first part of every paycheck. He wants to be first. God sought us first. The very act of creation is one of pursuit – He created us so that we could know Him. And through Jesus He has sought to restore us to Himself. He has given us an invitation to come to know Him. Jesus told His disciples to ask, seek, and knock; in doing so they would receive God's good provision (Matthew 7:7). Jesus even prayed for future believers that they would be with Him (John 17:20-26). He promised to continue to make Himself known to us. It is clear that God desires relationship with us. He has given us a taste of who He (Psalm 34:8); and we are invited to continue to seek Him to more deeply understand His goodness. Now everything rises and falls right here. If your priorities are not in order, your life will not be in order. If your priorities are not right, you won't be right. You don't have to pray about what your number one priority in life ought to be. You don't have to think about it. You don't have to discuss it. You don't have to look for it. You just have to do it. Because Jesus has already told us what our first priority ought to be, "seek ye first the kingdom of God...

...HIV in Philippines HIV (Human immune deficiency syndrome) is the causing factor for the sexually transmitted disease AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).HIV virus makes the Immune System weakened that result in making the body suspect able and vulnerable to many diseases. When the immune System is weakened the body becomes vulnerable to make diseases. (UNAIDS 2012). The HIV epidemic in the Philippines has been rapidly changing in the past 5 years. The first case of HIV in the Philippines was reported in 1984. During the 30 year time span, the HIV situation has been constantly growing although the prevalence remains well under 1%, at a low 0.04%. The government is trying its level best to make AIDS extinct through education and prevention. Moreover, the cases of HIV are increasing at an exponential rate, so there is a need to give serious attention to the problem. From one new case every three days in year 2000, to one new case every three hours by the end of 2011 (UNAIDS 2012). Those who engage in risky behaviors such as, performing unprotected sex with several partners or intravenous drug users are at risk the most and can possible result in death. Number of infections old and new While the number of cases of HIV has declined substantially in many areas in the world, countries like the Philippines are experiencing the opposite. According to UNAIDS 2012 there were approximately 15,000 people living with HIV. The Philippines is one of the only two countries in Asia...

...International Perspective on HIV/AIDS Kionia Long University of South Florida Word Count: 2317 Abstract The Purpose of the world review paper is to gain an international perspective regarding the effects of HIV and AIDs in Liberia. Liberia also known as the Republic of Liberia is located in West Africa. Liberia has a population of 4 million individuals. It’s estimated that 30,000 of those individuals have either the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The most vulnerable of Liberia’s population are women young girls, and infants. Because of Liberia’s economic status resources are not as abundant as the Unites Stated. Some comparisons and contrasts between the United States of American and Liberia were conducted regarding treatment guidelines and resources, monthly treatment expenses, and prevention methods to decrease the spread of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This will allow a better understanding of methods utilized by the United States and Liberia regarding preventing and managing the spread of both human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome AIDS) in their country. International Perspective on HIV/AIDS “As the causative agent of the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) continue to be a major problem in the United States and in many other countries around the world”(Li et al., 2015, p. 1). The foreign country being discussed regarding...

In India, 5 million are already infected with HIV 6 years after the first detection, which makes this country spreading the virus faster than in any country. But AIDS is not the primary concern due to other health problems. And some Indian states deny the existence within their areas. Tamil Nadu was the first stat is introduce AIDS education and awareness. The London International Group (LIG) is well known in its latex and thin-film barrier technology, which is used in Durex condoms. Durex is the only global condom brand and protecting its position by “feeling is everything”. LIG entered Japan with a joint venture with Okamoto Industries and promoting the Durex Avanti condoms, which is stronger than latex and can be made thinner and can make the experience more natural. Identification of the Problems 1. Brazil • Brazilians don’t like condoms, and females are afraid of getting beaten or loose support if they told their husbands to use it. • Due to Brazil being a Catholic country, the church doesn’t tolerate the use of condoms. • The price of condoms in Brazil is expensive compared to other countries. • Most of the Brazilians are having multiple partners, especially for the males, Married or the youth. • For the females, having HIV is the number one cause of death in child bearing. • Most of the Brazilians, both male and female, don’t think that...

...With Men: A Systematic Review Communication 623 Final Paper Presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Health Psychology Seminar at Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania by Qijia Chen May 2014 Instructor: Professor John B. Jemmott, Annenberg School for Communication Abstract The current paper provides a comprehensive review of the literature on social network intervention in HIV prevention among MSM. I performed a systematic literature research in multi-lingual databases and located a relatively exhaustive collection of articles on social network interventions in MSM. There is strong evidence that such interventions are efficacious in generating changes in behavioral and psychological constructs that might lead to risk reduction in HIV infection and transmission. This paper identified several urgent issues in the current state of research development, particularly, a lack of theoretical development, an insufficient numbers of methodologically rigorous studies, and an absence of clear conceptual distinctions and implementary recommendations. The review also proposes potential solutions and suggestions for future research. Introduction Men who have sex with men (MSM) comprise the largest proportion of new HIV infections in the USA (CDC, 2011). Efforts to curtail the incidence of HIV infection require that at-risk individuals adopt effective behavioral changes. Previous research and prevention programs targeting risk behaviors...
