...Natasha Harvell Wanda Gilbert English 095-950 Fall 2012 September 9, 2012 My Home Sweet Home My home sweet is a two story yellow and white house with a garage. My home has four bedrooms, two and a half baths, a kitchen, and a big living room. I have no houses on either side of me. I have a shiny white privacy gate along one side of my yard. The master bedroom is downstairs. In the master bedroom I have a very large walk-in closet. The bathroom has a jacuzzi bathtub and a standalone shower. The living room is the size of two master bedrooms with a half bathroom. I have a 55 inch TV hanging on the wall in the living room. There is also a 50 gallon fish tank in my living room. We have eighteen steps that lead up to our second level. On the second level there are three bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a full washroom. In 2011 I had a super bowl party at my house. I cooked chicken wings, meatballs, mac and cheese, green beans, fried fish, potato salad, and sodas. We do not park in our garage so I set the food up out there with tables and chairs. I put some music out there so people could eat and dance. In the living room was the big screen with the game on it. My whole family came over and we had plenty of fun. In June of 2012 my youngest child finished school so I had a graduation dinner for her. I put up decoration for her and cooked ribs, baked chicken, fried chicken, mac and cheese, green beans, dressing, yams, cornbread, and rice. I ordered her a cake from Harris Teeter...

...Name: Jinhuixuan Li My Apartment As an international student, owning a house always is a dream. The reason is I do not have any family with me in the United States. However, I still need a little home in this foreign country. I live on campus, which also means school also is a half of my home. My home is a rental student apartment which is located on the 8th floor of Medical Plaza, the University of Utah. Although it is not my real home, I still want to call it “my home.” My apartment is small and crowded but comfortable. My apartment is a two-bedroom apartment, which means I have a roommate. My apartment has a very clean living room, a little kitchen and a small bathroom. First, as you walk into the apartment, the white wall and white ceiling make the apartment more bright and clean. Then you can see there is a large round wooden brown desk in the center of the room. There are five leather brown chairs around the desk. There is a very large French window which almost occupies the whole north wall. The brown floor mat also makes the room more comfortable and warm. When the night is coming, you can see the very good vista through the large window. I really like seating beside the desk and have a cup of coffee, and I enjoy the wonderful time. Although the living room is not big, it is comfortable and lovely. Secondly, I will introduce my little kitchen and bathroom. The little kitchen has a large white refrigerator that always has good food and a big oven and microwave oven...

...What I Call Home In life everyone has their own dreams, whether it be about cars, houses, or their career. Most people I know dream to have the biggest and luxurious houses but I was always satisfied with mine. My house is not a tiny apartment nor a huge mansion but a two story, plain brown brick cozy house with white painted doors. The front yard is decorated with beautiful flowers; roses, lilies, violets, dahlias, daisies and much more, my mother usually plant them. She says, "Flowers are a pleasure and perfection of nature, and they give many things to people, and it does not matter if you are rich or poor, they give you a wonderful world which makes you feel happy". It definitely makes her and our neighbors happy. She shares the seeds of her flowers with the neighbors since they love and always compliment her garden. Walking through the front doors of my house after a long day of school always makes me feel so relaxed. There is always a smell of fresh vanilla or brown sugar candles the moment I walk through my white painted door. As I walk up the stairs and I see four bedrooms and a washroom. There is one bedroom for each of us in the family; my parents, brother, sister and myself. I usually go straight to my room when I get home. The walls in my room are painted a nice light green. There’s my bed in the middle of the room, a desk, night table and a closet. I have always wished I had a walk in closet but I'm comfortable with what I have now, this closet does me just fine...

...farm lands with some animals. But I do like the city life with the nose, rude people, and heavy traffic on the high way. There is pros and cons to both environment, the countryside close to no air pollution, but less services you need to travel more to access services. The pros and cons of the city life more cultural opportunities, more diversity of people, more opportunities for higher education, better services like trash collection, water and sewer, cons more crime, more pollution, higher costs living. So as you can see I am little undecided about my dream house so. I am just going to explain two type of dream houses and locations one countryside and one in the city. First the city it would most likely be in Broward County a lake front home of course “I love water”. It would be 3 story house because it’s very hard to build full basements here. So one of the floors would be more like a half basement because the property will have a 3 car garage. The outside of the house would be a dark brown wood siding, and then a simple rock base that goes up about 1 feet on the house to give the old house effect. The side facing the water would be all glass so we can always look out to the gorgeous lake in front of us. It would have a long paved private driveway. The first floor would have moving glass door, doors opens with voice commands. There is a small flower garden and vegetable garden off to the one side of the house with solar powdered lights wrap around the whole house. At night the...

...amount of responsibility that it takes to maintain a dorm room living on my own, in comparison to the expectations living at home under adult supervision. Back at home as a high school student, my priorities and expectations from my parents were to attend school five days out of the week, manage my time to complete all assignments and to complete all chores that were expected to be done on time. Some of these chores consisted of cleaning my room, taking out the trash, and do my own laundry. When it was time to clean and organize my room, I had a tendency to clean and organize it the way I felt most comfortable. I did not have to worry about arranging all my personal valuables with limited space or share a room with another person and their own valuables. It was easy for me to place objects where and how I wanted and not have to feel stressed out on where I could find certain items when I needed them. My ability to organize my room and remove myself from distractions as a college student is not the same as to living at home. The most challenging, and time consuming problems moving into a dorm room is trying to manage a room that has provided me limited space on what I can work with when moving into a whole new environment. Moving into a dorm room can cause problem such as organization of the room, the cleanliness of the room and dealing with distractions. First, placing and organizing personal items in the dorm room is a common problem college students run into. Students often...

...so important to me is because my room holds all of my personal belongings, which are very important to me. Also my room is a comfortable place to study or just to relax. I can also have privacy whenever I want it by resorting to my room, this may be hard for some people if they share a room. Whenever my mom is nagging at me or when I'm stressed out with school or work, I like to go into my room and just be myself. All my belongings in my room surround me and make me realize everything is going to be all right. It gives me a sense of security. The way my room is set up makes it kind of cluttered, but that is the way I like it and I don't care what anyone says. As you first come into my room, to the right is my dresser. My dresser is full of things like perfume, jewelry, hair ties, my alarm clock and just a bunch of junk, mostly things that come out of my pockets at the end of the day. The dresser itself is brown with six drawers, sets of three side by side. Diagonally across from that is my curio cabinet which holds all of my porcelain dolls, the cabinet is a light brown with glass shelves. Next to my bed which is in the middle of the room is my entertainment center which holds my stereo and pictures and just odds and ends. Everything is worth keeping. I believe that other people feel the same way about their rooms and homes, it gives people a sense of security in a way that you can control what goes in your room and who goes in your room. It sort of gives people power which...

...a Sunday devotional would target families who are far from home and unable to attend their church. Also, there may be individuals who need to be motivated that God can touch through the motivational speaker. There can be two devotional times in order to accommodate the needs of early risers as opposed to individuals who sleep late. The two times would be 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. If God is involved, blessings will abound. In Matthew, the Bible teaches us “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (18:20, King James Version). Children Social Activities Since children of the 21st century encompass a generation of electronics, a game room is the ideal attraction for children. Furthermore, classics such as Mario Brothers, pin-ball, and Pac-Man are games of interest. However, the leading game that children are playing is Mine Craft that we must include in the game room. The set-up of the game room will be unique in comparison to game rooms that you see if you go skating for example. The game room will feature the comfort of a home with plush bean bags to sit on, couches, and comfortable chairs. Also, air hockey is an exciting game that is enjoyable for long periods of time. In addition, pool tables are essential for the game room on one end secluded from the rest of the game room to allow room to play pool without bumping into someone. Due to the fact that the game room targets children, as well as teenagers and adults, this addition...

...realistically to what I feel will be affordable in my future. The property I chose is located in the City of San Gabriel California. A single family home consisting of 1728 square feet, three bedrooms, and two and a half baths, single car garage with an extra room connected to it. Upon entering the front door you quickly realize that the front room is rather small. It does have a fireplace, which seems to limit the front room space even more as it only limits the placement of furniture. The bedrooms were of a decent size with new windows in all rooms. The master bedroom was slightly larger then the other two bedrooms with a sliding door that leads to the back yard. The master bathroom was really small and outdated. The other bathrooms were also outdated. There is a family room but that too was really small. The kitchen was extremely small with little cabinet space, little counter space. There was a small area for dinning which was adjacent to the kitchen and connected to the living room. The layout of the entire house seemed to be dysfunctional. It seems as if there was some remodeling done, but it really cut down the openness of the entire house. It seems like you were walking through a maze as you tried to get from one room to another. I also felt as if maybe the owners tried to fix up the kitchen prior to putting the home up for sale. In...

...somewhere to relax and to study and just do whatever you want to do. This place is my special place, my dorm room. My dorm room is an amazing place where amazing things happen, day in and day out. My dorm is set up exactly like my real room at home, which is also why I’m so comfortable in it. Every time I walk into my dorm room I feel like I’m at home in Columbia, and that really calms me down and sort of makes me feel like my parents are close to me in a way. Being comfortable in my room is why I can study so well in it, because I usually cant study or do work anywhere. My room is also the best place to triage for me. There’s nothing better to me then lying in bed watching Netflix while I try to prioritize what homework I should do at that moment. I could do it all day, and I wish I really could. After I’m done triaging, I simply just lie in my bed and think. Thinking in my room is great because I don’t have to do anything. My mind floats and bounces off the pictures and posters on my walls, I think about the most interesting things when I’m alone in that room. My room has been the most important place to me at the U for the first 4 months that I’ve been here, and I hope it’s always the most important place to me while I’m at the U. My room has made my college experience great, because of all the great things it reminds me of and lets me do while I’m in it. My room is truly a magical and amazing place to live, and I don’t know what I would do without...

...socio-cultural forces primary and others (climate) secondary or modifying.” This means that when it comes to convenience versus beliefs or traditions, the latter would almost always be chosen over the former. When it comes to culture, the most primary and influential of these practices are those that are experienced everyday, at our own home. It is the culture practiced within the family, called the family culture. A family’s culture may be almost identical to those of society’s, but a family still make themselves unique from the all the rest by having their own set of values, traditions, practices, and of course means of enjoying life. And because of this, families tend to need their own shelters or homes; somewhere they could keep their culture intact and live life the way they want to. Houses are the visual reflection of the family. A family’s home is something that is directly being used by all the members of the family in it everyday; this means that the house may very well be built or used for the most ideal or convenient way for the family. Taking into consideration negative assumptions and stereotyping, taking a look inside different homes and seeing one that is well-organized and well kept, compared to one that is full of clutter and mess, is far more likely to house a happy family. Furthermore, the spaces, and the spacing of the house also...

They should feel comfortable in their own home and be able to move around easily to accomplish their activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living. Many disabled people run into a lot of barriers around the home such as narrow doorways, tripping over clutter, and inaccessible rooms. Healthcare providers can play a valuable role in educating persons with disabilities and come up with home modifications that they should utilize within their home. When looking around my home at potential environmental barriers for my grandmother who is a wheelchair user, I notice a great deal of issues. I live in an older home...
