Introduction: Hovertec Corporation is the famous corporation in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, which has been manufacturing civilian and military helicopters for nearly 50 years. The profit during 1990 before taxation exceeded £16.5 million and the total sales of over £280 million. Most of 6000 people work in three manufacturing plants. However, the latest technology used in these production and assembly processes, is a relatively slow process. It took 3 weeks for a civilian unit and 4 weeks for the larger and more sophisticated military helicopter. The main bottleneck in the process is the long time taken to assemble the helicopter loom and complete the 1200–2000 connections between the power unit and the numerous helicopter systems and services. A team of 24 loom technicians who have from 8 to 15 years experience maintain the production output. The 1991 Corporate Plan concluded that: ‘Because of the constricting squeeze on defense projects on the finances of civilian helicopter operators, which appears likely to continue until the world recession ends and general demands picks up, future activity in the three factories will be at a lower level...

...Horvetec issues in manufacturing/operations Horvetec plc is a publish company which has been doing well recently as a result of good teamwork and managing. However, there are still some issues which cause problems for the company and can be either fixed or improved. In this case, we will focus on the issues in manufacturing/operations. Firstly, assembling a wiring loom can be considered as one of the biggest problem in manufacturing of a helicopter. It takes a lot of time as well as cost in this process as it is a very complicated task with a high risk of errors. Secondly, only well-trained/high skilled employees can work in assembling a wiring loom which leads to a lack of technicians. Both of these issues can be improved by applying a new manufacturing method which allow more unskill employees to work together with the well-trained technicians. This would allow the the process of assembling a wiring loom takes less time and more technicians can be trained through this method without affecting the final product’s quality. Thirdly, 1,200 and 2,000 electrical cables are not colour coded which can be very confusing for the technicians. The company should add colour coded in the operating system to make it more effiecincy Another fuction which is currently causing problem for the manufacturing/operations stage is human resources. Most of the technicians only came from the Royal Navy or the Army Engineering Corps which would limit the number of techinicians which would cause...

However, they are also incorporated with the loom technicians who directly lead them as a team. * Besides that, these girls had close relative with other loom technicians so they don’t want to work under other person. They were not responsible and cared about their work. * Finance * The financial situation was not good meanwhile they spent lots of money to hire 5 girls more to work with an expert instead of hiring only 1 loom technician. * Production * As the case described, the loom-assembly required the highest concentration and in earnest. But the loom technician was lack of taking responsible for equipment and it made the productivity decreased. * Operation * Managers didn’t give specific rules and regulations for the loom technicians and 5 girls. So when they had conflicts, they couldn’t compare with any standards. * When the conflicts lead to damage, just only the loom technician had to take responsible for its. It’s unfair. 2.
