Please identify the inter-departmental conflicts and their causes in Hovertec case 1. The inter-departmental conflicts * Human resources * The loom technicians were unwilling to work alongside the young women as writing the contracts with the company. * All girls were hired are unskilled and inexperienced in engineering or electronic system. However, they are also incorporated with the loom technicians who directly lead them as a team. * Besides that, these girls had close relative with other loom technicians so they don’t want to work under other person. They were not responsible and cared about their work. * Finance * The financial situation was not good meanwhile they spent lots of money to hire 5 girls more to work with an expert instead of hiring only 1 loom technician. * Production * As the case described, the loom-assembly required the highest concentration and in earnest. But the loom technician was lack of taking responsible for equipment and it made the productivity decreased. * Operation * Managers didn’t give specific rules and regulations for the loom technicians and 5 girls. So when they had conflicts, they couldn’t compare with any standards. * When the conflicts lead to damage, just only the loom technician had to take responsible for its. It’s unfair. 2. The causes of inter- departmental of Hovertec case. * Human resources * The company signed a contract which agreed no women in working with the loom technicians, but they are against it when they let 5 young women worked with the loom technician. * The loom technician was paid the high salary just after the supervisors and managers but they didn’t show their specialized skills in working. Moreover, they tried to break the equipment when the conflict appeared. * Manager concerned about maintain quality output and cost reduction program which can only realistically be achieved through implementation of new loom assembly. So they decided to let the loom technician control 5 female workers. Which leads to conflict between both factor and lower both quality output and productivity. Besides that, when they recruited these girls, they didn’t care about the relationship between them and loom technicians to divide groups. * Some girls in the group tend to be hostile to the manager who was directly supervised them because they had a close relationship with other loom technicians. Besides that, they are girls and as the case said they can’t have more security risks with hard working and high pressure. Hence, they want to work in a comfortable and different ways. * Finance * The company wanted to reduce cost and improve the productivity so they decided to change method. However, they still hold the old employees and recruited young girls to work with a new method. So the amount of money was paid for human resources increased while the contradiction causes great damage for the company and decreased productivity. * Productivity * All girls were school-leavers. They didn’t have any experiments in engineering or computer system so they couldn’t fix errors when it happened. It was the most important factor which impact directly on productivity. * The loom technician who directly supervised them had an argument and was not interested in working with women. So he left them with several problems instead of helping or supporting. * Operation * The managers didn’t intervene until everything seemed to be too late to resolve. They didn’t care about the way a team working together or give them a request before they started. * Besides that, they just tried to punish the loom technician without any checking to ensure justice. Ofcourse when they thought the technician was the first person must to be responsible for the damage. However, the underlying reason was also from young women so they were not fair in this situation.
