Holmes and his friends made money the wrong way by deceiving people (page 42-43). Him and his friends made money by faking the deaths of a family of three, finding three corpses that resembled the family members, and then collecting the death benefits. In other words they defrauded the insurance companies, and they mostly did this to collect life insurance money. This is economical example, because Holmes and his friends were in need of money and they chose this way to make the money, and divide it among themselves.

Before money became an issue, Burnham was surprisingly showing great sympathy towards the workers by paying them even if they are ill or injured, he gave them full-heated rooms with clean beds to sleep in. Olmsted was worrying about meal prices that were high and the restaurant's prices (page 275). He was worrying about high metals prices because if the prices are high then people would bring their own food which won't just result in making a big mess and also the restaurants won't be able to make any money.
