Nurse Manager Skills Inventory Assessment

...assessment, I thought I was prepared and ready to be a nursing leader for my hospital. However, the inventory assessment threw me in a completely new direction on things that I need to learn, things I have to improve upon, and things that I have to start thinking about before becoming a nurse leader. I plan on having a new positon as soon as I am done with my next class and I graduate, and with the new positon I had been planning on taking an initiative and ownership of various roles and skills which I currently do not think about. I intend on becoming an advocate for my fellow nurses, health care personnel, and patients, and from the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory I learned that I am just not ready to do this as much as I thought. I started going through the financial portion, and realized that I didn’t have the experience or mindset that is required to become a nursing leader. While this doesn’t mean that I cannot learn these skills, I plan on starting to learn them now, and to change my mindset to begging thinking more like a nurse manager in terms of financial elements. I have not thought of things before like recruiting except for the fact that we always need more nurses and we are short staffed. A nursing leader must think in terms of recruitment and retaining nurses at the same time. I know very little when it comes to economic planning or health care costs and accounting for money As well, I realized how little I know about department based budgeting, and budgeting for...

The new definition of Entrepreneurial Leadership is one of an enterprising, transformational leader who operates in a dynamic market that offers lucrative opportunities (Tarabishy, Fernald, Solomon, 2010). Elements of Leadership

...Leaders and Leadership An Analysis of Kevin Rollins and his Leadership Style MBA 517 –T 03/14/2010 The Organizational Gems Christina Lakich Nick Madara Brenda Mercado Karla Reeves Outcomes Elements of Leadership From the case, we analyzed Kevin Rollins Leadership style and gathered that he has five distinct elements. First, he is a formal leader, as CEO he is given the authority to allocate the company’s resources the way he feels will make the company more productive and profitable. He was given this power when he succeeded Michael Dell as CEO, before then he was second in command and did not have as much influence over the company’s resources. Another element to his leadership is his need for continuous improvement. After the huge decline in revenue Dell decided to sell its products in Wal-Mart stores in order to reach lower income consumers as well as continuing to sell directly from their website, however, Rollins saw that in the long run this could actually cause the company to lose money because Dell only provided their products in certain retail stores. This demonstrates how he jumped right in to tackle the company’s biggest problem: not meeting their projected revenue, and how he can come up with ways to improve their current situation. The third element to Rollins’ leadership style is initiating structure; he is always analyzing...

Leading Small Groups

...management consultancy, there are 75 key components of employee satisfaction (Lamb, McKee, 2004). Trust and confidence in top leadership was proven to be the single most reliable predictor of employee satisfaction in an organization. When a person doesn’t respect the people in a leadership position, complications in tasks will arise. An example of this would be in the workplace when a leader is delegating responsibility to employees, and the employees do not respect him or her. The task will be completed; however, the quality or production will not be as good as it would if the manager was appropriately respected. Trust and respect go hand in hand when leading any group, whether it is in the workplace, school, or just a casual event. Aside from trust and respect, a leader has the ability to set the morale in a group. Being aware of the mental and spiritual shape of your teammates plays an important part in leadership. Leaders can shape morale by compassion, and by listening to other group members before adding their thoughts and ideas. By listening to others, a leader will get an idea of how other people are feeling by the temperament and infliction in their voice. An example of this would be if a person is normally outspoken and creative every day, and then they are closed off and quiet. This would be an indication there is a problem. The problem could be as simple as a bad day or it could be a conflict the individual is having with the group...

...Strategic Leadership Final Elements of Sustaining a Strategic Culture Viktor Kanzler Thursday, September 5, 13 Strategic Leadership Final Any organizational culture emerges out of the company’s norms, values and behaviors that are reinforced by the company’s role models, symbols and instructions. The organizational culture is usually marked and established by the management and founders, and then transferred to the employees of the company. Although the company primarily establishes the corporate culture, the external environment also influences it. The culture is in a constant process of change, driven by internal and external factors, which contribute to the change of the company. As a result, organizational cultures are often difficult to grasp because they are indeed a real fact, however, exist only in the minds of employees. Thus, as the culture is mainly formed by the employee’s belief in common values, behavior and attitude, which can also unconsciously control the employee’s actions and decisions, it plays a decisive role in the success of a company. In the following essay I will analyze and discuss what it takes to create and sustain a successful and enduring strategic culture that contributes to employee participation and ensures that the company remains competitive, sustainable and successful. Entrepreneurial Leadership

...1. Discuss the common elements described in the theories/philosophies of Case, Kouzes, and Drucker including how their principles/strategies relate to the new definition of entrepreneurial leadership presented in Understanding Entrepreneurial Leadership in today’s Dynamic Markets. Leadership is the process through which an entrepreneur is able to influence employees to achieve the objectives of the organization. To be an effective leader, an entrepreneur must: (Livinsky, Dave) Build trust and confidence among employees and effectively communicate with them. Leaders can build trust in many ways. They can achieve it by working hard, maintaining a constant message and/or being available to solve employees' problems among others. By showing employees that they are fully committed to achieving the vision, entrepreneurial leaders build trust and confidence in employees. This in turn yields high employee satisfaction and commitment. Effective communications is equally critical to successful leadership. If employees are unclear about the company's vision, and/or receive mixed messages over time, they will be unable to focus all of their efforts on achieving the company's goals. Conversely, by delineating the company's vision and goals, and reinforcing them over time with the same message, the company's goals become engrained in its employees.
