The big question in this small community is how to improve it. Our community lacks in many ways from poverty to a lack of things to do and even explore. I have lived in this town my entire life and am starting to become less fond of the community as I grow older. In my mind there are many things we can do to improve Alpena. The best and most logical way to improve this community is to make better use of our waterfront to create jobs, have things to do, and attract tourist.
Alpena has a vast and beautiful waterfront that entertains everyone in this town. From swimming at our beaches to walking the pier keeps everyone happy, for a while anyway then we get bored of doing the same thing over and over again. The waterfront is Alpena’s greatest and most beloved feature. That means we should use it in smarter and more efficient ways. One idea is to create more desirable beaches with more amenities that attract people and make them want to spend time there. It encourages people to spend money in Alpena helping the businesses which in turn comes right back to us people. The NOAA center and Lady Michigan has been very god at bringing tourist into town. They have hosted conventions and other things. Everything I talked about uses our waterfront in a more efficient and overall better way than what we are doing now. A great way to improve our tourism rates is to offer more diving and snorkeling to novices. In order to explore your wonderful shipwrecks of Thunder Bay up close you have to go through extensive training. There are boats such as The Lady Michigan that tour the shipwrecks and were need more things like that. Fishing charters would also help drive tourism. All of those thing help create jobs, which would increase our population, and more money would be circulating in the community. Property values would also
