...reference 1-429-140 May 11, 2012 How to Write a Business Case Study A business case study confronts students with a real-life dilemma and engages all their abilities to solve its challenges. In presenting a specific business or policy situation—one that does not have an obvious solution—the case provides information for classroom discussion and other study. A good case study stimulates an educated conversation and the building of business knowledge. The best case studies are learning-centered, not instructor-centered. Details describing the differences between the two can be found in Exhibit 1. A student reading the case should be provided with the information needed to make good decisions about the case, or the ability to find the information if that is a learning objective. Information critical to solving the case should never be contained exclusively in the case’s teaching note, because doing so puts the instructor in the center of the learning, and leads to frustrated students. Cases should satisfy professors and students as well as the businesses, organizations, and people featured in the cases. Although these interests might appear in conflict, a case that is written with fairness and intelligence will ultimately receive the respect of all parties. The best cases have several structural characteristics in common including a protagonist, specific time frame, and use of past tense. An author who becomes experienced in case writing may deviate from this pattern, but doing...

...VARK Learning styles: Read/write learning style Name: Institution: VARK Learning styles: Read/write learning style Overview of the read/write learning style The read/write learning style mainly makes the use of printed words to receive and convey learning information. Using the style enables one skill to become the input of another through the transfer of the ability to read to that of writing. The skills transfer is integral in raising the awareness of how the structural components involved in learning are shared in both reading and writing modalities (VARK, 2016). One of the reasons a leaner may choose to embrace the read/write learning style is because it facilitates cognitive concept mastery since it brings out the aspect of making sense of what is read through fixing it in memory by writing it down (Crawford, 2005). Therefore, the method strengthens the learning quality by incorporating both the senses of sight and touch. Pointed out herein is how personal reading/writing strategies compare to the VARK preferred read/write learning style strategies and how the awareness of the individual learning style (read/write style) influences teaching and learning. Preferred learning strategies for read/write learning style * Identification of the item or subject that require a study. * Development of learning goals and questions or hypotheses with regard to the subject of study. * Identification of the sources from which the study will derive concepts from. The sources ought...

.... Analysis of VARK Questionnaire: How It Effects Learning and Teaching Sibel Healy Grand Canyon University: NRS 429V-O500 March 26, 2016 Analysis of VARK Questionnaire: How It Effects Learning and Teaching Learning style is a term used to describe how one interprets, organizes, and comprehends information. People have different learning style which is why each of us study and learn differently, the VARK learning style model helps us as individuals understand our learning preferences so that we can retrieve and convey information to the best of our ability. This model includes a questionnaire that helps those realize their learning preference. The model consist of four major learning categories visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic The learning preferences results provide an explanation on how someone “take[s]-in and give[s]-out information” ( Fleming, 2016). In this paper I discuss my learning styles and strategies that were recommend through the questionnaire, as well discuss how individual learning styles, preferences, and strategies can influence how someone may teach and learn. Summary of Learning Style Through the VARK questionnaire I was given the results that my learning preferences were split equally between read/write and kinesthetic. The read/write learning preference is for learners who take in information that is displayed in words. The input and output for this learning style is through printed material especially manuals, reports, essays...

...The results from the VARK questionnaire were based off of the several questions that pertained to the various learning styles. The learning style that was assigned was Mild kinesthetic learning style. The results that were received were given in different categories for learning which are: Visual: 2; Aural: 4; Read/Write: 4; Kinesthetic: 6. The questions given were designed to interpret the combination of the several learning aids such as written directions, lists, audio, visual, diagrams, pictures, real life experiences, etc. (VARK) For people with a kinesthetic learning style, they use their past experiences and other realist things to learn material. (VARK) Some key words that were associated with this preference include senses, practical exercises, examples, cases, and trial & error. (VARK) Some of the preferred learning strategies that one can associate myself with is attending classes, attending discussions and tutorials, discussing topics with others, listening to professors who supply realistic examples, doing hands-on activities, and reviewing previous exam papers. All of these learning strategies help to create the type of student people see myself as. After doing the questionnaire and receiving the result the identified learning strategies associated with my identified learning style includes: using all your senses - sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing, working in laboratories, going on field trips, going on field tours, using examples of principles, listening...

...terms and concepts for a subject, measuring one’s reaction to a subject, making new connections, abstracting, figuring out significance and developing arguments. In learning English Foundation subjects, there are some reasons for us to read. By reading books, we might become an interesting person. This happens because we can use information that we get from books or magazine to impress ourselves to friends or future employers. Besides, reading also can help us to learn how to write correctly. In this case, we will get good grades and also can impress our future boss who will promote us because we can express ourselves 3 correctly. The next reason for reading is to help us in developing our imagination to write many excellent stories. For doing some event, we also can look up a lot of funny ideas for friends to prepare something outside our expectation. If we read, we can get the information which can take us to some places that we do not know. For example, when we see newspapers write good articles about travelling places which we have never been before, we will feel interesting to take part in that travel place. There are many types of reading as...

...acronym for visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic (VARK®, 2011). Knowing ones learning style can be the key to a successful learning experience. Read/Write The read/write learning style means that he or she prefers to learn by reading directions or material and by writing things down, such as note-taking. In my case, this is the style that the VARK® assessment identified me as. Read/write learners enjoy reading, often take excessive and verbatim notes, work best in quiet areas, prefer to work alone, won’t hesitate to look up a word in a dictionary, and love articulate teachers who put a lot of information into sentences and notes (The Study Gurus, 2013). The read/write learner is fairly common and may be missed as they’ll be in a corner writing notes! Preferred Learning Strategies Preferred learning strategies are ways that a learner likes their information presented to them. My preferred learning strategies are the following: * * Reading handouts * Reviewing lists * Taking notes * Re-writing notes * Listening to lecture * Using tape recorder The above strategies all help me understand and retain knowledge. It’s extremely helpful for me to understand which learning strategies work best for me so that I do not waste time attempting to learn in an ineffective way. Preferred Learning Strategies vs VARK® Identified Learning Strategies Most of my preferred learning strategies coincide with that of a read/write learner. I love to take notes...

...therapists gain an understanding and interpretation of what may be happening for the client. This paper demonstrates my understanding and application of two theories to conceptualize a case study. Lastly, I summarize how these theories could benefit the client. Case Formulation “Theories provide therapists with concepts that allow them to think systematically about human development” (Jones-Nelson, 2011, p. 8). Theories are particularly important for therapists as they provide a framework for helping the client. It helps to support therapists on how to think about a client’s behavior, how to treat them and how to respond to them during the sessions (Jones-Nelson, 2011). Summary of Case I selected the case formulation of Kasey, the 25 year old woman who has concerns about her Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I selected this case because it provides me with insight on how family dynamics and psychological vulnerabilities influence the development of anxiety disorders. Secondly, as a marriage, couple and family therapist in training, it is helpful to have knowledge of family systems and how these systems may affect the individual. Cognitive Theory The first theory that I will be applying in the case formulation of Kasey is cognitive therapy, developed by Aaron Beck. The cognitive therapy is structured, short-term, present-centered, problem-orientated, collaborative, directed at solving...

...Auditory, Read/Write, Kinesthetic (VARK) model, developed by Fleming and Mills (1992) include Visual (V), Auditory (A), Read/Write (R) and Kinaesthetic (K) types of learning approaches. The Visual (V) learner learns best by the use of information by visual means (using of charts, mindmaps, and other visual aids). The Auditory (A) learner understands best by hearing the information. The Read/Write (R) learner learns best when the information is shown in written word or displayed. The Kinaesthetic (K) learner learns best with practice or simulation (Liew, Sidhu, & Barua, 2015). In the past, institutional study methods were confined to lectures and self-study. A major part of education depended upon lectures. Information technology had widely changed the modes available related to knowledge acquirements for 21st century students. With a variety of educational aids available these days, it is important to identify the most efficient way to complement and deliver knowledge in order to help the students to become exceptional learners. In this way they can become the best students possible. Types of Learning Kenesthetic Learning Through this questionnaire I discovered that my personal learning style is kinesthetic. Kinesthetic means that you prefer to learn using experiences, or hands on action (Kinesthetic Strategies, n.d.). An example of this would be practical exercises, hands on experience, or real life application. These definitions hold valid in my case as I have a propensity...

...Considering the danger she faces, Dana commits to teaching Nigel and Carrie to read because she believes in equality. Dana is in the past time period, living in Rufus’s household with her husband, Kevin, and doesn’t like how things are being handled during this time period. Knowing how to read is a big deal during this time frame because it shows how intelligent you are. Most blacks don’t know how to read, but in unusual cases, such as Dana, blacks know how to read and write equally or maybe even better than their masters. With their masters knowing that they can read, punishments became more severe, mostly because the masters didn’t like their servants acting smarter than them. For example, Margaret Weylin doesn’t like Dana because Dana can write and read better than Margaret can. Dana...

Would it make a difference if she used a PowerPoint with her main ideas on a slide? At what point did you tune out? A study on active learning found that lecture-style teaching increases failure rate by 55% (Friedman et al., 8412), but there are many variations to standard lecture style teaching. Now imagine you are the same freshman and are given a brief handout on cause and effect. Then, for forty minutes you watch the pilot television episode of The Flash (based off of the DC...

...positive. Why is it that so many five year olds turn out to be young adults who cringe when “reading” and “joy” are utilized in the same sentence? One could say that a reason would be a teacher’s, mainly a language arts teacher, teaching style. One’s teaching style can impact how a student learns and grows. Forcing a student to read or do a reading assignment that they do not enjoy can make them hate reading, rather than improving on any literary skills. In The Norton Reader, John Holt, author of “How Teachers Make Children Hate Reading,” says that teachers put too much focus on having their students understand everything about what they’re reading. He asks “Why should children understand everything they read?” (359). Reading should be done...
