The elements of a basic SWOT analysis
I learned that the Strategic planning is a process where top-level management sets long-term organizational goals and determines where an organization is going over the next year or more -typically 3 to 5 years, although some extend their vision to 10 to 20 years. Middle managers interpret these goals and develop tactical plans for their departments that can be accomplished within one year or less. Supervisors within departments implement operational plans that are short-term and deal with the day-to-day work of their team. Short-term goals are aligned with the long-term goals and can be achieved within a month, quarter or up to one year.Management planning is the process of assessing an organization's goals and creating a realistic, detailed plan of action for meeting those goals. Much like writing a business plan, a management plan takes into consideration short- and long-term corporate strategies. The basic steps in the management planning process involve creating a road map that outlines each task the company must accomplish to meet its overall objectives.Businesses usually incorporate several different facets of decision making, most notably – strategic, tactical and operational. Strategy focuses on the overview and direction of a plan. Tactical and operational decision making focuses upon more detailed plans; however, each still incorporates several differences.Tactical planning is short range planning emphasizing the current operations of various parts of the organization. Short Range is generally defined as a period of time extending about one year or less in the future. Managers use tactical planning to outline what the various parts of the organization must do for the organization to be

Building a Strategic Plan

...includes certain basic elements that all churches can use to explore their vision, goals, and next steps of an effective strategic plan. Strategic planning is a process that helps focus on aligning the unique gifts and resources that God has given your organization to take advantage of your opportunities. For the Christian, this is not simply projection-based planning but the realization that through prayer and obedience you can be a method to help bring about a future that is in position with God’s will. Through prayer, the framework for a plan can be established. We do the planning, but God does the directing. Simply put, a strategic plan is the formal road map that describes how your organization executes the chosen strategy. A plan predicts where an organization is going over the next year or more and how it is going to get there. A strategic plan is a management tool that serves the purpose of helping an organization do a better job, and it improves organizations because a plan focuses the energy, resources, and time of everyone in the organization in the same direction. Strategic planning does not have to be puzzling or time-consuming. In fact, it should be quick, simple, and easily executed. Additionally, strategic planning is not just something you cross off your list of “to-dos”—you must create a custom of strategic thinking, so your strategic planning does not become an annual retreat but, instead, a part of daily decision making. A good strategic plan achieves the following: ...

...ACTIVITY 1- SECTION 1 In this brief dissertation below will be considered three of the most used methods in organizational contexts to identify learning and developments needs for individuals and groups: SWOT, focus groups, self-assessment. SWOT The SWOT analysis is an easily applied tool, which asks the team to consider strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats relating to a specific situation. SWOT’s primary objective is to help organizations develop a full awareness of all the factors, positive and negative, that may affect strategic planning and decision making. Example: A small manifacturing company might decide to perform a SWOT analysis to review the activity of the company itself and find new approaches for the next two years: Strenghts: - we can offer a better service to the costumers and dedicate to them more time; - we are able to change our offers in a brief lack of time if we realize they do not fit well with the current marketing request; - we have just a small markup on our prices and for this reasons our products are not so expensive. Written Case Guidelines for Mktg 639

...oriented. If there are questions at the end of the case, unless otherwise directed, questions should only be used as guidelines. Answering only those questions will not be appropriate. The write-up is to be a “management directive” for the company. It should specifically state what the actions of the company should be to operate within the specific situation. This should not be a recantation of the case. On the case days, students will discuss each of their solutions in a simulated boardroom environment. There is no one set solution to the case. The success in this situation for the student is his or her ability to support their recommendations. Students should provide support as to why they feel their individual solution is appropriate. Students are not to “update” the case. Do not assume the actions taken from the time of the writing of the case by the company are the appropriate solutions/approaches to the case. This can be misleading and create myopia. Each write-up should include the following sections/components:  Statement of the problem ▬ The problem should be presented as a single sentence (two at the most). ▬ A brief review of the situation should be included to support why the specific item has been identified as the problem.  SWOT Analysis Summary: The full SWOT should be attached as an appendix (not...

...Personal SWOT Analysis You are most likely to succeed in life if you use your talents to their fullest extent. Similarly, you'll suffer fewer problems if you know what your weaknesses are, and if you manage these weaknesses so that they don't matter in the work you do. So how you go about identifying these strengths and weaknesses, and analyzing the opportunities and threats that flow from them? SWOT Analysis is a useful technique that helps you do this. What makes SWOT especially powerful is that, with a little thought, it can help you uncover opportunities that you would not otherwise have spotted. And by understanding your weaknesses, you can manage and eliminate threats that might otherwise hurt your ability to move forward. If you look at yourself using the SWOT framework, you can start to separate yourself from your peers, and further develop the specialized talents and abilities you need to advance your career. How to Use the Tool To perform a personal SWOT analysis, print out our free worksheet, and write down answers to the questions in each area below.
