“UAPB’s Former Name”
There were several things I found significant in the University Museum, however the former name of “UAPB” happened to be the most significant. The former name of “UAPB” happened to be “Branch Normal College”. I found out it was created on April 25, 1873. It had first began at a house at Sevier and Lindsay Streets on 2nd & Oak. Where only seven students were enrolled. That was a very low enrollment considering the fact that now there are over eight thousand students enrolled at this University! I also found out that in 1882 it was then located West of Pine Bluff. It had become Agricultural, Mechanical and Normal College in 1932. It was all done to basically get a college for Black students. The goal was met because the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff is now a Historically Black College University. Knowing the history of your college is very important. Not only is it important but it is also interesting. If I didn’t go to the museum I would have never knew the former name of UAPB! I see a lot of positive changes have been made since the school was established and that makes me even happier to be at this University! The name was Branch Normal College from 1873 until 1921. However in 1972 AM&N had emerged! I may have not found out everything about the University, but I found out a lot about what the schools name had used to be! Branch Normal College! The museum gave me a lot of new ideas about the school I attend and I am lucky to be a student at “UAPB”!
