...Board Forum 1 Chapter 6 – I agree with Dr. Gutierrez’s definition of a godly person because scriptures support his definition. His definition is supported by Isaiah 29:13, “The truths of God must be received into the heart and then lived out” (p.85), and Ephesians 4:1-3 “I …beseech you to have a walk worthy of the calling with which you were called…” (p.88) “A godly person is one who takes the truth of God’s Word and consistently lives it out day-by-day, from the heart, being careful to obey it” (P.88). A godly person is one who is connected to God’s heart and walks out His Word by the help of the Holy Spirit. No matter what happens in your life you continue to trust God. You believe that even though a situation has come to destroy you, God will turn it into a victory to glorify Him. When you can look back at your life and see God was always there working things out even when you thought He abandoned you, it is then you realize that same God is still with you working everything out for your good. That’s when you know you trust God no matter what your eyes may see. You trust Him in the deepest part of your heart. Chapter 3 – What one point of content did you find intriguing, interesting, thoughtful or novel in Chapter 3? Explain why you chose to discuss this point. I choose a point on page 41 of the text book. Gutierrez directs our attention to Luke 15:1-7 of a sheep whose legs had to be broken. The text gives an example of a sheep that could have possibly been rebellious....

...To Be a Human- Then and Now Throughout the span of time humankind has asked the question: What does it mean to be human? Some of the world’s greatest men have contemplated over this question and there are a vast number of theories on what makes a human. A scientist might take a more literal opinion of the question, thinking that we are human because we are higher on the evolutionary chain; we are physically, emotionally and mentally complex. While others might take a more philosophical position on the matter, like René Descartes who originally spoke the famous phrase: “I think, therefore I am”. A philosopher would value the fact that humans can intelligently communicate their thoughts, and these thoughts can change the very existence of man as a whole through invention and innovation. Religious groups would base their opinion of humans on their faith; we are human simply because we are not God. At times science, philosophy and religion can confuse a person opinion on what it actually means to be human. Maybe the concept of being human is much simpler then some may think. Being human could simply mean that we as a collective race are imperfect. The idea of human imperfection is not easily explained by science, philosophy or religion. They can all sometimes be too complex to understand. Science exemplifies the human race as a species, philosophy praises human race as thinkers and religion looks at the human race as sinners and how we all must be perfect to please God...

...classical period, the confidence of the Greeks grew. The Greeks thought that Humans are able to maintain their own faith rather than a divine power. The humanism was based on the human knowledge been far superior to other beings, they exalted mortal excellence and expectation. For example, in one of my favorite movie “clash of titans” where the humans stop praying the gods for protection and health, thinking that the gods are the ones that need them, not the other way around. So they started to destroy the god’s statues and stop praying to them. Hades (brother of Zeus and Poseidon) got tired of the Humans thinking they run the world, he recommends that Zeus release the kraken on the human so that they would be scare again and start praying the gods for mercy, so Zeus agreed. Sophocles (the tragic poet) made a play call “Antigone” which gave voice to the Greek concept of Humanism. “Terrible wonders walk the world but none the match for man….speech, thought, quick as the wind…all those he has taught himself…ready, resourceful man.” Most people think that the period of humanism means that they don’t believe in God, but to me it simply means that we can think and provide for ourselves, we can make or destroy thing if we decide that’s what we want to do. Humanism to me is simply saying that we as Humans are the center of the universe, not that they don’t believe in a higher power but none the less they were always balanced by the Greek sense of tragic fate that humans...

...My Progression in Christian Thought Introduction My progression in Christian thought addresses three particular areas of growth. I have always known it is imperative to share my own personal testimony when ministering to the lost. I believe it allows them to understand that I haven’t always been a Christian and we’ve all fallen short of God’s glory. So I try very hard to maintain a standard of living which pleases the Lord because I long to become more and more Christ-like every day while doing his will. I am a part of a body of Christ (a local church), therefore, it is my duty to make sure the love of God is displayed within my community. Why personal testimonies are important in sharing the gospel Sharing my personal testimony is very important to me, because I have seen my past in others right before my eyes. I believe sharing our personal testimonies with those who are lost or in disbelief can help them realize the existence of Christ as well as his goodness. Testimonies are meant to be shared, because God wants us to go out and spread the gospel. We are warriors for Christ and are called to serve him. How else will the world know of a being in which they already cannot see? Sharing our testimony is evidence of Christ’s existence. God loves us and moves in our lives and delights in our sharing to help others. As Christians, we have gone through a period of conversion; so the world needs to know and see that through testimony. Testimony...

...SOUTH 1 Person of Interest Paper "It is more blessed to give then to reciecve" Act 20: 35(NIV Bible). This verse is a great representation of the way Mother Teresa lived. She was a great woman of faith and was the best definition of a Godly woman. She lived by the beattitudes, and walked through life living out her faith by her actions. She always said to be faithful in the small things, because it is in them that your strength lies.(bio.com) Mother Teresa was born into a family where both of her parents were devoutly Catholic. She was raised in the Catholic environment. As a young child, her father got very sick and passed away. Once her father was gone, Agnes and her mother grew very close. Her mother played a part in the way she was, being...

...methods and comparing them with my own grieving method my views have been altered, perhaps it will make a difference in yours as well. Grieving process Grieving is a healthy reaction to loss. God made people to have emotions, and it’s perfectly expectable for us to grieve when we are sad. Exercising our emotions is healthy. Those who bottle up their feelings can make their grief seem unbearable. Kubler-Ross attempts to break down the stages of grief to help us expect what we might feel or what others might feel when they go through loss. Kübler-Ross ' The five stages that Kubler-Ross sets before us are; denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance were first published in her seminal book On Death & Dying in 1969. These 5 stages were posed to help people understand grief and what we as humans go though when we face hard times such as sickness and death. Denial is the person simply refusing to believe the bad news. Anger is when we get upset over the circumstances set before us. Bargaining is trying to make a deal with God to change the situation. Depression is acceptance of the situation with emotions such as sadness, regret and fear attached. Finally acceptance comes, and we accept what lies before us with piece of mind (Chapman, 2013). Story of Job The story of Job is about a man who was the godliest man on earth at the time. Satan came to God and said Job is only a godly man because you have blessed...

...and grow. I consider myself to be well rounded, and the well-roundedness that I possess would not be possible if not for three instrumental Godly men in my life. We are taught in Proverbs 27:17 that, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” This scripture describes the blacksmithing that these Godly men have performed in my life. These men, who have helped me get where I am today have personified Strength, Drive, and Discipleship; without them, I undoubtedly would not be where I am today. Strength is often thought of as only a physical attribute; However, this first person embodies all aspects real strength. On the surface, my dad, Jayme, would seem to most like “happy go lucky guy” without a care in the world; however, it is also what you do not see that tells the story of his strength. Scars on his hands and worn leather like skin provides vivid details of a life spent working tirelessly to provide for others at his expense. The son of a Builder, my father, followed in his father’s footsteps as a master craftsman. Beyond his ability to create beautiful houses, my dad showed strength in building a healthy, quality, home life for my siblings and I; A home life whose foundation was laid by the Lord. There are a lot of people who are happy with mediocrity; they lack the drive and determination to go the distance. My older brother, Jayson, worked from the time he could ride a bike, doing whatever he could do to make his way in the world. He has always been the favorite...

...practices it; nonetheless its purpose is and always was to edify believers. The godly characteristics that develop in us as a consequence of receiving God’s Spirit are known as the ‘fruit of the Spirit’. They do not appear immediately in mature form. There is a process that changes the human mind (Romans 12:2) through practical application of God’s laws. Those laws are an expression of the very divine nature that is received through the Holy Spirit. Applying the law motivates the Spirit to produce its fruit. Over time the maturing of the fruit changes human nature to divine nature. This process is completed by Christ, as told in John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” From my understanding the biblical definition and purpose of the gift of tongues was that the tongue in which the person spoke was unintelligible, and therefore unedifying to the Christian assembly, the tongue was not a foreign language, the tongue speaker addressed himself to God to whom he probably offered prayer and praise, the tongue edified the speaker, the tongue speaker lost the control of intellectual faculties, the tongue being probably a disjointed, highly pitched, ecstatic series of ejaculations, similar to the tongues spoken in times of spiritual awakening experienced intermittently by the church (1 Corinthians 14:1-15). (Elwell 1137) This was a one of the grace-gifts of the spirit. It has...

...I can claim it, and I can testify to it that Jesus is the center of life, and I know for sure that He is at the center of my life. Many people struggle with Jesus today, especially in the last ten years or so. It seems like since 9/11 happened people have lost touch with God, and some have even turned to other gods. It is a sad world we live in, if you look at it from a worldly point of view. This is not the way to look at things; you have to look at it from a spiritual point of view. God is in complete control and always has been, He has a plan and He is definitely putting it into action. Just read the book of Revelation and you will see that God’s plan is coming together perfectly. I could spend all day here with many quotes from Revelation but by the time I got done we would have a thousand pages or so of just quotes, so I will just say this, Just READ IT! Before I continue any further, I will state this and claim it, that there is only ONE GOD AND THAT IS JESUS CHRIST THE LORD!!! He is the “The Way, The Truth and The Life.” (John 14:6 ESV) I will always believe that, no matter what the world says. John 14:6 alone sums it up in my opinion that Jesus Christ is the center of life, and the only true living breathing Son of God; another one of my favorite quotes from God’s Holy Word, and it sums it up as well, that Jesus Christ is the true God, it is in 1 John 5:20, and states it very plainly; “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that...

...Book Report On “The Purpose Driven Life” In life, we often ask ourselves trivial questions such as “What should I wear to that party?” but the most important question we must ask ourselves is ‘What is God’s purpose for my life?”. The “Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren aids us in finding the answer. This book is based on five principles that Warren expounds on which are used as stepping stones in finding our purpose. The first section of the book focuses on the question “What am I here for?”. People frequently fail to realize that God is not living for us but rather we are living for God. This indicates that we ought not to figure out our purpose for ourselves but ask God to show us his purpose for our lives. The bible states everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. We don’t genuinely start living until we figure out God’s purpose for us. Moreover, humans are very self-conscious creatures; we often think “my nose is too big:” or “my lips are too small”. We repeatedly forget that God has custom made us. We are original Designs! We are NOT accidents! God loves us so much that he made us in His image. Hope is the seed which grows into having a purpose. When a person has found their purpose life becomes ten times easier. Without a purpose people take on more tasks than they can handle. This results in a life filled with stress. In the book “A life without purpose is worse than death” is often mentioned. This emphasizes how important it is to live a purpose...

...parent. PRAYER Lord, I submit myself to You. I realize that parenting a child in the way You would have me to is beyond my human abilities. I know I need you to help me. I want to partner with you and partake of Your gifts of wisdom, discernment, revelation and guidance. I also need Your strength and patience, along with a generous portion of your love flowing through me. Teach me how to love the way You love. Where I needed to be healed, delivered, changed, matured, or made whole, I invite You to do that in me. Help me to walk in righteousness and integrity before You. Teach me Your ways, enable me to obey Your commandments and do only what is pleasing in Your sight. May the beauty of Your Spirit be so evident in me that I will be a godly role model. Give me the communication, teaching and nurturing skills that I must have. Make me the parent You want me to be and teach me how to pray and truly intercede for the life of this child. Lord, You said in Your Word,”Whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive”(Matthew 21:22). In Jesus’ name I ask that be so evident in me that I will be a godly role model. ...Leadership By Rudolph W. Giuliani The book “Leadership” by Rudolph W. Giuliani is a well thought out book about being a leader through very hard time in the world, going through September 11 2001 and holding it all together and bringing not just a city but actually the whole United States of American back from an attack on America. In this paper I will try and point out some things that stand out about Mr. Giuliani leadership skill and compare them to the “Primal Leadership” written by Daniel Goleman, Richard Boyatzis, and Annie McKee, and also comparing them to “The Steward Leader” by R. Scott Rodin. You’re setting there finishing up your morning meeting like you do every day of the week, everything going as normal, when you are told that a plane just hit the “World Trade Center”! What would be the first thing come to your mind would be “Oh No” or maybe “What do we do now”! No, He takes the situation head on and starts preparing for it from the get go. How many of us could say that about our outlook, when something bad happens to us, most of us would get out of shape and start trying to figure out why it happen, or might even run from it. Leadership is the name of the game you have to be prepared for anything that come at you or as the old saying goes “be prepared for anything because you never know what come behind the next door” during times like this you need to surround yourself with trust worthy people that you can bounce ideas off of and get straight answer and...

...character. This important standard of beliefs can in most cases create the difference in attitudes from others both negatively and positively. There can be disagreements around these values that can lead to fights, heated discussions, and arguments in which there are differentiating opinions of what is right or wrong. I make ethical decisions almost daily in my personal and professional lives. Some of these decisions are easily made while others does take some time with me reflecting and trying to see the impact it will have on those around me. My ethical beliefs are constantly being developed through training and the many experiences that I encounter daily but essentially have never changed. I have had several influences that has influenced my beliefs, attitudes and concept of morality such my parents, grandparent, church, the different people I have come in contact with, my teachers and assorted family members. My core values I got from the church and family. I was taught to follow the golden rule; “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, and this is an abiding principle that I try to live by every day and treat each person equally and as I would like to be treated. Another of my core values is to respect all individuals but...

... 'A nation is always better off under a benevolent dictatorship rather than an inefficient democracy.' Ans. The question presents to us a proposition, which leads us to compare between ‘Benevolent Dictatorship’ and ‘Inefficient Democracy’, and figure out which of these is better for the community as a whole. So, according to me, to move forward in building a better understanding of which of the two is better, a critique of what is meant by ‘benevolent dictatorship’ and ‘inefficient democracy’ and an understanding of what each of them implies is of grave importance. Benevolent dictator as I learnt from John Stuart Mill’s writing in ‘Considerations on Representative Government’, is a person who has absolute power within his constitution, no one can say anything against a decision made by the dictator, leading to decreased power in the hands of the general population. Also, under a benevolent dictator the public has the power of voicing its views/thoughts on issues or problems, but if the dictator chooses to turn a dumb ear to the individual’s voice, he can do so without being questioned at all. E.g. taking Saudi Arabia, it is governed by a despot family, where if anyone wants to voice their views to the authority it can, but, that does not imply that their voices will be heard/acted upon. Also, it tolerates no opposition even from its citizen members, against any of their decision and/or control. By this we can see the compression of public views and thoughts, which in time...

...Jesus Claims to be God/ Character Development Tamar Brown Theology 104 I. Introduction In the following paper I will discuss the various thoughts and ideas that have been presented thus far in Theology 104. During the course of this class a variety of topics were discussed which in turn gave me a clearer understanding of what it means to be a Christian, about Jesus, as well as a better understanding of the bible itself. In the following I will address two topics for which I feel are imperative to any Christian and to the life thereof. In the first portion I be touch on the subject of Jesus’s claims to be God. I understand this to be the topic of many discussions and disputes among those in religious circles and abroad. In the second portion I will discuss character development. II. Did Jesus claim to be God? a) Explanation of the topic/doctrine We will find that Jesus did in fact make claims to not only being the son of God but, to be God in the form of human flesh. I believe that the most compelling evidence or support to this claim is not so much in what Jesus said about his deity or divinity but, rather in what He did as he walked among men. Jesus has made claims to His divinity, but the proof of His divinity was more in His actions and not in His words. I believe that this speaks clearly concerning our own nature as well as God’s desire to relate to mankind, as sinful human beings. b) Scriptural basis There are many people that question if Jesus every really...
