...Week 3 DQ 1: In my attempt to search for academic honest in higher learning using search engines, little was found. When I first said searching, I decided to use google.com and ask.com as my search engines. I decided to look for academic honesty in higher learning (in its entirety). I had more luck with my findings when I used google.com than when I used ask.com. I picked a few websites that sounded like they'd be useful when writing a paper on the topic. The first two that I chose to visit were findarticles.com and wiki.answers.com. Wiki.answers.com literally gave a one sentence definition of what is believed to be academic dishonesty. Findarticles.com gave a short and simple description on academic dishonesty in online courses and provided a few links to articles about academic dishonesty. Those articles gave very little information on plagiarism and other terms defining academic dishonesty. One of the articles only informed a person about using correct citations in a paper and it was only six to eight sentences long. As with google.com, ask.com provided many links to many different colleges and academic institutions. I'm looking for academic integrity, not links to colleges, or links to different colleges' guidelines on their ideas on academic integrity (although they could somewhat prove to be useful). One thing that I was hoping for were statistics (real case studies) on academic dishonesty in higher learning. I did a search using ask.com for statistics on...

...Reflective Essay The project I am submitting to the Hannon Library Undergraduate Research award was originally an assignment in Dr. Hawley Almstedt’s Advanced Nutrition course. Students were asked to compose a paper on any topic of their choice relevant to the field of nutrition using research from at least ten sources, half of which were required to be from peer-reviewed journals. I was first inspired to write my paper on amylin after hearing about the hormone and its exciting potential in a newspaper article. I already had an interest in endocrinology because of other classes, so this was intriguing to me. I didn’t know much about amylin so I had to do preliminary research to see if amylin was a viable subject for a semester-long research paper. I discovered a plethora of material in every science, health and biochemical chemical journal imaginable. In short, plenty of material was available. To fit criteria of the class assignment, I had to alter my thesis to better address how amylin affects nutrition and its importance to those who study and work in the field. The primary tool for my research was Hannon Library’s online databases. I found that the Medline and Pubmed databases returned the most and best quality results. Sometimes, I would search one of these databases and a PDF version was available for free directly from the database. However, in many instances only the abstract was available on Pubmed. On these occasions I employed one of Hannon’s best...

It seems obvious that #1 would be the most important objective for a title. But as search and electronic publishing becomes more and more important in research I’ve come to believe that the last point (search) may indeed be the most important. Think of it as SEO (search engine optimization) for your research vision. The importance of research vision SEO I’m sorry to say that I’ve attended more than one talk at an important international conference where someone else presented a paper exactly describing an idea I had published earlier. Whose fault is that? Well it was my fault. When I dug up my old paper I realized that the particular idea wasn’t reflected in the paper title at all. It was “buried” in the content. Most people begin a research project with a comprehensive review of the literature. It is crucially important that they find your paper when they’re at the beginning of their research/writing cycle. Assuming your work is good, if they find your paper early on, you’ll help them avoid reproducing your work, and perhaps encourage them to make use of your ideas as they go forward. And of course you’d like them to cite your paper as well. A well crafted title is the best way to accomplish this goal. How does one accomplish this with a title? The most important...

...look up information faster to save time that would be by using digital tools. One digital tool that pretty much is very common is Google. Another common digital tool that is used a lot would be youtube, it is a very popular site for video content like music videos, tutorials, etc. Another form of digital tools is Wikipedia. These three digital tools that I have mentioned are a few of the most common tools used today. There are very many search engines out there, but there is definitely one that in my opinion trumps them all, and that is Google Search. Google Search is also already programmed into the address bar on your smart phones, so when you have to do a search, it is as easy as just using the address bar to type the information you are searching for and it automatically takes you to Google Search. It has helped a lot when it comes to time management, to find the information need to write that paper can be easily found at just a click of a button and just like that you have found all the information needed to write that paper. You can input addresses and it can easily give directions to your destination. Google Search has become pretty much a one stop shop for all you’re searching. How can we forget Youtube. Easy access to videos, most of the time any video that you are searching for is usually always found on youtube. It is great innovative way to look for videos from commercials, tutorials, documentaries, and even education videos. It helps when needing a visual on...

...unemployed. This paper will focus on the estimation of job searches given the restrictions implemented in a job search theory. Moreover, this structural approach helps view the market in a different way. On one hand, the labor market is a place where numerous jobs are offered and there are only few takers and on the other hand, there are only few jobs available but many takers. As an addition, the structural approach produces predictions about the dynamics in labor force for each individual.[1] As a guiding paper I will follow Kenneth Wolpin (1987)’s paper. Standard discrete-time search model will be applied, meaning a non-continuous time search model. It includes the following characteristics: -First, the search horizon is limited since graduates will not be able to borrow due to a lack of future income; - Second, the probability of receiving a job offer (given the fixed length of time) may be dependent on job search duration; - Third, there is a cost of getting a job offer in a given period, which is not a subject to choice. This cost represents an opportunity cost of search time and it is a forgone leisure; - Fourth, in this model jobs last for a lifetime and once an individual is employed there will be no capital market constraints; - Fifth, the wage offers are arbitrary and previous offers cannot be recalled. However, this model is incomplete. In order for the model to be complete, an individual should accept the first job offer at the end of the search job horizon...

By using the person-centered approach ones view of human nature comes from one’s helping style. One would require a style that would make the client believe he or she is safe and understood. By the client knowing his or her therapist or counselor does understand him or her then he or she will believe he or she is safe and accept the help offer by the therapist or counselor. One could possibly set his or her on goals for change or except those of the therapist or counselor. “Person-centered therapy holds an optimistic view of human personality and focuses on present rather than past experience. Focusing on the inner experience of persons rather than on observable behavior, it holds that behavioral change evolves from within the person rather than through the manipulation of the environment” (Parrott III, 2003). View on Helping Developing a personal theory for the way one would want to understand human nature and provide...

The first deliverable, due on Feb. 9th, is a thesis statement, outline and annotated bibliography is worth 25 points. All of these concepts are described in detail below. The second deliverable, due on March 18th, is your final paper and worth 50 points. The topic of your paper is any social issues in IT topic of your choice with these constraints: 1. You must have a thesis (an argument or position on an important topic of the day that is open to debate or dispute). This can take several forms depending upon your topic: It might be that you take a position on a topic that is hotly debated (e.g. are first person shooter computer games good or bad for pre- teens to be playing?) Or it might mean that you look at a technology development and posit a position using one of Postman’s five dimensions (e.g. Who are the winners and losers when we equip knowledge workers with company provided mobile devices? Or: what are the unanticipated systemic impacts of equipping knowledge workers with company provided mobile devices? Or: What are the underlying big ideas behind a society of workers enabled to carry mobile devices so that they have access to the Internet from everywhere most all the time? ...Search Organization When looking for an article to support our barriers to resolution I was able to use two different databases. At first I tried using the CINAHL database to try and find an article. It soon became evident that the combination of the database and the choice of words I was using were not working out, as I was not receiving many search results. I then tried using the multisearch (discovery) database and I was presented with many more results than when using the CINAHL database. Upon searching through the multiserach database I was soon able to locate my article that I decided to use in the paper. I initially tried searching things like “nurses not continuing education” and “nurses resistant to continuing education”. Upon searching through the search results I was still not able to find an article that worked for our paper. I chose these words as they highlighted the topic I was trying to discuss. I then tried searching “resistance to change in nursing education” and I was presented with many more articles that seemed relevant to my topic. Upon searching through the results I was able to find an article that worked for my topic. Article Relevance The reference I chose to use for this search strategy was: Clark, C. S. (2013). ...junk food, all food marketers are spending billions of dollars to advertise to one age group: children. Ranging from birth to 17 years, children and young adults are unknowingly programmed by their surroundings everyday to eat whatever the food industry wants them to. In my research paper, I will be analyzing food advertisement geared towards children; specifically how these advertisements affect their health and diets. My position on food marketing is that it is too influential on children and that it needs to be more regulated, either by parents or by the government. Someone needs to take a stand for children so that when they are older, they can live healthy and fulfilling lives. The research I have conducted supports this claim that food marketers, in order to lower the obesity rate in children, need to be more heavily regulated. I also find that the sources I have selected cover the food industry well and will prove to be well-chosen. In order to understand this topic, my audience will need to know how children are being targeted by marketers. The sources I have collected are mostly taken off of the Academic Search Premier database, which is considered to be a reliable source. The source I consider to be most useful is “Food...
