...College My days in college as an English language student made me recognize the best things about literature and the art of writing. It was soul enriching, whenever I read various literary texts or critiques, and discovered some established writers in the country where I live. These writers all had something in common: They were humbled by their respective experiences of achieving success in an industry where writers are now less valued as builders of society. Initially, some writers had secretarial or other jobs not particularly appropriate for English majors. Some were fortunate enough to work as editors or writers. While some of these situations saddened me, I felt proud of those who patiently worked hard to earn a living and finally did make it as professors of literature. I have known some English professors who went to graduate school for their Master’s degree in Education major in Literature while teaching, showing their undying passion for the field. I was very lucky to grow up in a family that had the financial capability and resources to support my college education and would also be able to support my desired Master’s degree later on. Having this financial capability is a privilege. I could not easily throw away this opportunity to further my studies. I view this opportunity as a stepping stone to helping me become a literary scholar, professor and researcher. I understand that the way to the top is straight and difficult.
