...differ from person to person. So what I wish for is that I want her to love me the way I will love her. Also I don’t want a queen because I will treat her like queen. There are many things that I have thought I will do after marriage. Some of them are cooking with her, helping in household work as I am an expert in this field, party with her and going mad and many more which are not appropriate to tell here. I have planned what I will do for her before marriage, after marriage and in life. I wish her to be understanding about my work, my lifestyle and trustworthy. Trust is the backbone of any relationship, trust gone everything gone. So this is what I wish for and in return I promise her wherever she is that I will love her so much that she can’t imagine and be a perfect partner and we will live happily 2nd: The most important thing I wish for is that I want my stammering problem to just go away. Yes I stammer a lot, but improving year after year, doing hard work, working better on my communication skill. The main reason for this wish is just to improve my communication skill, as it hinders in almost everything in life. I feel very shy to talk to anyone. When I see other boys just going talking to any girl and getting along, then this goes to another level, I feel bad for myself thinking why can’t you do this. Also other than this there are many more reasons like going in for a interview, group discussion, also presentations. One thing I feel which may be a normal for others...

...fear. The use of fear of the unknown with regard to greed have been shown in a number of ways. Firstly with the game of chess between Mr. White and his son Herbert, then jumping at the chance to make a wish on the paw even after knowing that the paw had brought trouble to others that had used it and lastly asking for their son to be brought back to life. The game of chess in this story symbolizes life in "The Monkey's Paw." The game of chess entails risk taking. When the story opens Mr. White and his son Herbert are playing a game of chess in the safety and warmth of their home but little do we the reader realize that the outcome of the game will eventually mirror that of the ending of the story. While playing with his son, Mr. White announces his theory of "radical changes" with regard to chess. He takes incredible risk in the game and even Mrs. White is worried about the moves that he makes. We are told that Mr. White has just committed "a fatal mistake after which it was too late." During the game he realizes that while he was feeling confident about the risks he was taking, he discovers that theses risks have brought only loss to his game, foreshadowing much the same as the risks he takes in wishing on the paw for 200 pounds and the great loss that such a wish will bring upon his family. With the visit from a friend, Sargent-Major Morris, a man who has travelled around the world, the White's comfortable, cozy lifestyle is changed forever. Morris tells the...

...The Monkey’s Paw Character Analysis The Monkey’s Paw is a famous and suspenseful story about the White family and their naive and foolish father, Mr. White. Sergeant-Major Morris, a visitor, warned White about the encursed talisman. Mr. White wasn’t on the same road as Morris, but then Morris “suddenly threw it upon the fire” and Mr. White went diving for it (Jacobs 3). Seeing this in one’s mind can lead them to the idea that Mr. White wants the paw dearly. Mr. White is easily persuaded by his son to make the first wish, which is to pay off the house with £200. This is shown early in the story, when Mr. White’s son, Herbert, says the White family would be “rich, famous, and happy” (Jacobs 3), though Mr. White states, “I don’t know what to wish...

...how would you like everything you wished for with out know there was a catch attached to it . for example in the store monkey's paw it shows a dark ,and evil side by showing that temptation can lead to greed and a form a kind of karma from gaining one thing important to losing something you love the next. Like in the story herbert wished for two hundred pounds ,but didn't realise he be losing something worth more than money when he gain money. They also show darkness with them explaining the way the setting is in the story and by adding sound to see or feel what the character is feeling . The monkey's paw show a sort of karma by each event showing something going wrong for each time there was a wish something unfortunate happens. like for...

...but sometimes I wonder what life would be like if I were the one who was granted three wishes. Would I feel guilty about taking someone's wishes that were granted to them? It’s always me granting the wishes for once I would like to be getting my three wishes. Would I have any remorse afterwards? Let’s see what wishes I would choose and some examples of the importance of each wish . As a genie for thousands of years there are so many wishes to choose from, but I have narrowed it to three. My first wish is very important for me, and I am sure that others would agree on the importance of happiness for all. Another wish is to have more friends, because it gets very lonely in the bottle I currently live in. Last of all, my most important wish, I wish to live outside the bottle, and as normal human being. Now I will explain the importance of each wish and how it will affect my life in the future. My first wish is for happiness to all. I think that has a nice sound to it, don’t you? It is tough being a genie, but it’s also very gratifying helping others in need. Yes, I know there are going to be ups and downs from whatever you wish for, but you can learn to deal with what life throws at you that might transpire from a first wish. Most people in the world today want something that is better than they already have. This first wish will help others to deal with personal, emotional, and other issues in their lives in a much better way. By asking for my first wish I think it will...

...This sarcastic tone generalize that the solider is being smart,or sarcastic. Then The father Mr. White gets the Monkeys Paw,he wishes for something saying, Punctuation Errors There should be a space after a closing quote. Replace with: ” I ”I wish for 200 pounds Miscellaneous Unpaired symbol: '“' seems to be missing ” (Jacob 94). After this statement the reader can say he is eager due, through his use of tone. Tone played a major factor on finding the theme of the passage. W. W Jacobs creates comparisons through metaphors, similes and allusions. For example when the narrator describes how his hand moved saying, Miscellaneous Unpaired symbol: '“' seems to be missing ” As I wish it twisted in my hand like a snake Miscellaneous Unpaired symbol: '“' seems to be missing ” (Jacob 91). This simile is implying that it must have scared him or he was nervous. Jacob uses a metaphor to describe the old man face stating, Miscellaneous Unpaired symbol: '“' seems to be missing ” There was no reply, the old man face was...

...like the idea it is not going to happen. We have children who are suffering from life- threatening illnesses who do not have a chance to be a kid or to grow up with the memories of childhood. We try all we can as parents and family to keep our children safe we just can not perdict a child getting a life threating illness, we do all we can to make our child happy while going through a scary ordeal. If we can make one dream come true for a sick child for one day of forgetting they are staring down a life threatening illness and make that child laugh wouldn't giving that child a wish come true be amazing? The social program I am creating is a program to help a child who is terminally ill or has a life threatening illness called “Dreams Come True.” A dream come True program would for one day grant sa wish one child makes come true. To make this happen I would need to set up the program, find donors and volunteers, financing to help the wishes come true. Advances in medicine and modern technonogy have increased the survival rate in children with chronic illness, including illnessess that were considered fatal (Cohen,1995).Witnessing the child's pain and fear, combined with the constant fear of death makes it difficult for the family to function normally and plan for the future (Haas, 1990; Rolland, 1994; Sloper, 2000). Literature on the differential impact of the child's chronic illness on the fathers and mothers is limited...

...If I Could Have Three Wishes What Would They Be If I could have three wishes I would use them to benefit the world in whole. I believe that the only good change are ones that can help more than just myself. The first wish I would make would be for Peace Worldwide. Requesting peace may sound cheesy, but think of the changes it would make in our world. If everyone could get along without hate and be able to tolerate each other. If we had Peace there would be no reason to have Homicide Units in the Police Departments. If we had Peace there would be no need for prisons, and just think about how much money we would save as a whole. If there were peace just think about how many tears would never have to be shed. To me peace is a wonderful thing to wish for. The second wish I would make would be for no uncurable sicknesses. If we could cure all ailments we would have better life spans, as well as better life period. When I think about AIDS and what it does to the individual suffering from it and their loved ones it breaks my heart. I wish we could absolve that from ever happening to another soul. The AIDS virus is not the only sickness, there is cancer, mental disorders, body ailments, and alcholism, drug addiction, and so many more that we all could list that touches someone, somewhere, and somehow. I would love to see sickness removed from our world. I would wish that instantly if I could. The third and final wish if a genie graced me with his lamp would be for everyone...

...committed. Love was compared to work, which really caught my attention. I don’t think that love itself is work, it is one of the most powerful emotions we as humans experience and emotions are natural human reactions. However, I do believe that relationships require sacrifices as well as testing your emotions. Some might see this as hard work but I see it as any other life experience that humans go through. For example, if there is a workaholic who spends all of their time at their job, their spouse will be angry that the workaholic isn’t spending enough time with them. This is a common marital issue that could result in adultery. Sacrificing even a little of time at work to be at home with the family could easily fix this problem. Desire was a common word used in this reading which I knew the meaning of but looked up the definition anyway. Desire means to wish, want, or long for. Desires are a natural part of human thought processes. We all want this or that for Christmas or wish for happiness etc. Wishing is a very common idea for children. Children are always told to wish upon a star or make a wish when you blow the candles on your birthday cake. Wishing is implanted into our brains at a very young age. Some teenagers will wish for better parents or that their brother or sister has never been born. These are most likely regretful wishes that if they every came true the saying “Be careful what you wish for”, would be said. After hearing this, the teenager will have a better...

...In the short story The Monkey’s Paw written by W.W Jacobs there are a lot of themes, the one I feel is the most important theme is be careful what you wish for and do. I say this because there is a lot of irony and suspense. The irony in this story was an example of when Mr.White wanted Herbert back and then he secretly wished for him back without thinking, this was ironic. The suspense in this story builds up when you find you find out that Herbert was wished away to not be alive then at the last second Mrs.White wishes him away. I think these literary devices help build the theme because the irony shows Mr.white making a wish and he wasn’t thinking and later regretting it. He raised his hand, I wish my son alive again”. This is an example of how Mr.White wished for his son to be alive again, he did this impulsively....

...music played in the movie added more suspense too. Specific scenes where different moods were set, created that suspense. The humor used with Herbert was not used in the short story. Herbert picked at Mr.White about the monkey paw being a myth and not being real. The irony showed in that is after Herbert picked fun at his father. After Herbert made a remark then left for work that very morning after the White's wished for five hundred pounds. Herbert got in a horrific accident that day at work. The accident kills him. Later that day a mysterious man arrives at the Whites with the news of their sons death and a letter payment for them from the factory. The payment was five hundred pounds. This bringing the story to its climax after the first wish being made. The music and the actors show more suspense, leaving the watchers think. What's going to happen next? Was it a coincidence they received five hundred pounds? Is the monkey's paw really cursed? The characters in the movie were all the same except a couple were changed in the movie. Sargent Major in the short story came to the Whites to visit because it had been twenty years since he had visited. He was a heavy drinker, had even three whiskeys just before telling his story about the "monkeys paw" he had brought to show Mr.White. What changed in the movie was Sargent Major was the Sea Captin. The Sea Captain didn't change much about him from the short story but he wasn't much of a drinker. He had also visited the Whites a lot...

...Guilt can make you do things that aren’t the best for your situation and make problems worse. These two stories that are a part of this essay are two ideas of what guilt can make you do. In the Monkey’s Paw and the Tell-Tale Heart, their cause-and-effect relationship is that being greedy or selfish can cause guilt and the feeling of suspense from the guilt causes them to do things that aren’t sensible. Consequently, guilt and the reaction to guilt causes complications. In the Monkey’s Paw, the White family was selfish and wish for money. As a consequence, their son was killed causing them to feel remorse. Mrs. White felt miserable and thoughtlessly wanted her son back no matter the cost; even though she saw the consequences to the last wish....

...Tempting Fate Throughout the short story “The Monkey’s Paw”, the idea of magic, wishes and fate are casually introduced by Jacobs. Fate is a development of events that is beyond a person’s control and is predetermined by supernatural powers. Jacobs raises a genuine chill by underplaying the threats that will arise when tempting fate. Through greed, and supernatural events Jacobs weaves a tale to show that fate rules people’s lives and that those who interfere with it will suffer the consequences. The idea that the monkey’s paw is of supernatural origin is first brought to light by the sergeant-major who informs the White Family that “It has a spell put on it by an old fakir a very holy man” (Jacobs 2) which allows three wishes to be made by three separate men. The Sergeant-Major continues to tell the White family that the monkey’s paw has supernatural powers, he foreshadows through the words “He wanted to show that fate ruled people’s lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow” (Jacobs 2). Through this quote, “The ominous threat of the paw is presented” (Brantingham). The Sergeant-Major warns the White family that wishing on the monkey’s paw and changing their destiny will not appeal to the supernatural world and they will suffer the consequences. Continuing on with the idea of the supernatural, there are a few instances within the short story that support the idea of the monkey’s paw coming from an uncanny universe. The first instance is that everything...
