...Kulkarni, Jeffrey D. Tew, and Pankaj Dayama Abstract— This article reviews recent research and current art in the area of auction based mechanisms for electronic procurement. These mechanisms are becoming increasingly relevant in modern day e-procurement systems since they enable a promising way of automating negotiations with suppliers and achieving the ideal goals of procurement efficiency, cost minimization, and agent based deployment. The survey delineates different representative scenarios in e-procurement where auctions can be deployed and describes the conceptual and mathematical aspects of different categories of procurement auctions. We discuss three categories: (1) multi-unit auctions for a single homogeneous type of item; (2) combinatorial procurement auctions where the buyer seeks to procure a bundle of multiple items and the suppliers bid for subsets of the bundle; and (3) multi-attribute auctions where the procurement decisions transcend cost considerations alone, to take into account lead times, logistics costs, and other important attributes. In all three cases, the winner determination problem and the determination of payments turn out to be interesting and challenging combinatorial optimization problems. In our review, we present mathematical formulation of procurement scenarios under each category, bring out the challenge involved in solving the problems, and indicate active research topics. We also present a case study of electronic procurement at General Motors...

...AbstractIAbstractPronunciation learning is very important in second language acquisition. However, thebasic knowledge of phonetics has been ignored.Pupils in Hebei province begin to learnEnglish in grade three in the primary school. But there is no systematic knowledge ofphonetics in the textbooks.Phonetics learning needs not only the phonics imitation method, but also the basic knowledge about phonetics. However, with the influence of quality-orientededucation and the western language teaching mode, pronunciation teaching in China tends touse the imitation method and the basic knowledge of phonetics is undervalued. It is worth tonotice that English acquisition environment for Chinese students is different from the West.First,English teachers in China are mostly Chinese.Even if there are foreign teachers, theforeigners teaching force is relatively weak.Second, the language surrounding to the studentsis mainly in Chinese. And students in the oral English class are not active to participate andinteract. Moreover,English belongs to Indo-European language system, while Chinesebelongs to Sino-Tibetan language system. They belong to different language families andthere are many differences in tone, syllable and phoneme. Thus the negative influence ofChinese on the English acquisition is great.Without any basic knowledge of phonetics, thelearners will meet lots of difficulties when they learn a new language which is quite differentfrom their mother tongue. Therefore, the Chinese phonetic teaching only...

...Unlucky Cupid ➶ Prologue ★★★ She is smart, HE's intelligent. She's gorgeous, HE's sizzling hot. She's popular, HE has huge resemblance to a world-wide known teen-age superstar. She's snob but somehow nice, while HE is the gentleman every girl will die for. Will rivalry cross their fate? Or Love will play their lives? He was always mistaken for the popular singer, whom She really hates. Will Her high school life end up just like those typical one's? Or will He make the best or even worst out of it? ➶ Chapter 1: Interference /KATHERINE'S PERSPECTIVE First day of school, sigh. Simula na naman ito ng hectic schedule, little time, less fun, and whatsoever bothersome school works. Pero first day of school sometimes is not that bad, kasi usually pupunta ka lang sa unahan at magpapakilala. Orientations, introductions, chit-chats - yeah, that's pretty much it. Kaya on second thought, I'm going to enjoy this first day lalo na dahil makikita ko na ang aking mga hmm, how should I describe my friends? Loud speaker-like? Loquacious? So ayun, siguro yun ang dahilan kung bakit parang naging "Play Girl" itong si Lindsay, in other way. Hindi naman talaga. Pero all in all she's one of a kind...
